Light hearted - I obviously realise that individuals have zero control over their date of birth!

BUT hear me out

Jan - mid Feb WRONG (too soon after xmas, we're all too skint and knackered)

Late Feb - mid June RIGHT (birthday season #2)

Mid June - end of first week in Sept WRONG (summer holiday season, birthdays are superfluous)

7th Sept - 20th Dec RIGHT (birthday season #1 AKA the best time to have a birthday)

21st-31st Dec WRONG (gets lost amongst all the Xmas shit)

AIBU?

My daughter's birthday is Dec 23rd. We get the highest attendance out of all the kids parties. It's perfect parents get 4hrs to sort out all the last min Christmas bits.

CeeJay81 · 16/06/2021 07:03

I guess we are generally lucky. Me and dh are March and kids April and may. Accept I rarely do much for mine but wanted to something this year as I was 40..but we were still in lock down, so it felt pretty rubbish. I'll have to be 40 again next year instead😂.

cricketmum84 · 16/06/2021 07:14

I love my June birthday, it's usually lovely and sunny beer garden weather. When the kids were younger before they brought in fines we would usually be on holiday on my birthday.

Plus it's almost exactly halfway through the year so after Christmas I've got a lovely halfway point to look forward to!

December cut off should be anything after the first week IMO.

Rebornagain · 16/06/2021 07:19

My daughters birthday is in January and you are limited to what you can do due to weather.

Also you have to wait 11 months before being spoilt again.

My youngest is in June and that seems perfect celebration every 6 months

redfairy · 16/06/2021 07:24

My birthday nearly aways falls on the August bank holiday. It's an excellent time for a grown up birthday. Not so good as a child as I'd give party invitations out when school broke up but then got lots of no-shows as people would be on holiday or would forget by the time it came around.

Arrierttyclock · 16/06/2021 07:28

Im due with my first on 1sf Dec. Really hoping he/she comes early! My mums birthday is NYD and she hates it because everyone's always too hungover to do anything😭

Eskarina1 · 16/06/2021 07:29

My birthday is in spring bank week (always) and I think it's the perfect time for a birthday as a child. Almost half way between Christmases so spaces presents out through the year, never have to go to school on your birthday but close enough to school time so you can celebrate with your friends. Good chance of decent weather.

I know a couple of people with December 1st birthdays and their families used to link it to the start of Christmas celebrations - decorating the tree etc - and that worked really well for them, but generally I'd prefer a summer birthday.

Arrierttyclock · 16/06/2021 07:30

I do feel bad that they'll have one month of presents and nothing for the rest of the year so I'm trying to get my husband to agree to a half birthday 😂😂

RaininSummer · 16/06/2021 07:33

I find my early December birthday a pain as restaurants are already all about Christmas menus and weather is rubbish.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 16/06/2021 07:35

Lat may- June is horrible in your teens... I spent my 16th- 22nd birthdays doing exams.

NatashaAlianovaRomanova · 16/06/2021 07:41

@m0therofdragons

You forgot 29 Feb is a bad birthday (as Dh reminds me every year as that’s his). Dd is 20 feb so usually half term so that works well.
DD loves being a leapling - she gets a regular birthday on 28th Feb on non-leap years & she gets a massive fuss made of her with extra presents etc on the years she has an actual birthday.

Which is just as well as her 21st was a washout due to COVID but she'd had a great 20th just before the original lockdown!

MyCatEatsPrawnCrackers · 16/06/2021 07:42

Mine is early July which was ideal as a child as afterwards, i could look forward to the Summer holiday and that has never changed ( have been a teacher all my working life).

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 16/06/2021 07:45

Your answers only apply to the Northern hemisphere. Smile. I used to love having a birthday in July as it was summer, but now my birthday is in the middle of sodding winter! My husband, on the other hand is delighted as his January birthday is now always in glorious sunshine and he can have a bbq and/or pool party. I was robbed! Grin

looptheloopinahulahoop · 16/06/2021 07:46

I think any time from October half term gets mixed up with Christmas, to be honest. All the birthday cards get crammed into one tiny space and the Christmas cards take over.

I also agree that Jan and early Feb isn't great. In fact early March isn't that great either as the weather always seems to be rubbish.

So I would say mid March to end of October is good (in the UK) and the rest of the time is bad. So plan your conceptions accordingly Grin

HangingOver · 16/06/2021 07:47

Agree! Mine often cooincides with August bank hols and no fucker is ever free to do anything!

proopher · 16/06/2021 07:53

My birthday is after Christmas but before September, so I always liked it when at school because it was the same year you left/took GCSEs/ A levels/ left uni.... so the years between my birth and leaving school on paper is 18 years.

For my other half though it is 19 years on paper, even though he was also 18 when leaving school - because his birthday is after September and before Christmas.

I always thought post-Christmas pre-September birthdays were superior due to this GrinGrin

SuperCaliFragalistic · 16/06/2021 08:02

A friend has 2 girls both with birthdays around xmas and new year. Every year the house drowns in toys and presents for 2 weeks, neither of them have parties to speak of. It's pretty hard work.

I was so desperate to avoid a winter baby I was planning to pause TTC with my first for 5 months to avoid it. Luckily I didn't have to do that.

TotorosCatBus · 16/06/2021 08:09

My kids are in birthday seasons 2 and 3.

3 is great because you're almost guaranteed that you can have the party outdoors and there's lots of cheap options like having a sprinkler or water guns available to have fun.

Zzelda · 16/06/2021 08:15

You're right about January birthdays. The only consolation is that you can get presents cheap in the sales Grin

SmallPrawnEnergy · 16/06/2021 08:22
@lazylinguist plenty of fun things plus holidays in the summer so lots going on and having to remember to post cards/prezzies etc in and amongst everything just seems a bit of an inconvenience
Maybe you just need to be more organised?
September is over ran with birthdays by those who try and force their kids to be the oldest in the year so you’re wrong on that front. I mean this whole post is laughable at how wrong it is (lightheartedly of course) Wink

x2boys · 16/06/2021 08:25

@AJ1425

I have a Christmas day baby and that's definitely the wrong time of year to have a birthday.
I hear yah ,my oldest son was born on boxing Day 🙄
BramStoker · 16/06/2021 08:26

@smallprawnenergy You've totally rumbled me! Feel like my organisation skills have got worse as I've aged Blush

For some reason birthdays are on my radar from April to June and Sept to Dec but during other months they seem to catch me unawares!

Should point out that one of my own DC has a January birthday and i still haven't got my head round having to organise a birthday celebration at this time of year after 16 years! It's just wrong!!

OP posts:
MondeoFan · 16/06/2021 08:27

Both my DD are in January and August.
They are both rubbish birthdays. But you know what? I'm so glad they are here and I have them that I don't care when their birthday are. I've always made their birthdays special no matter what

PattyPan · 16/06/2021 08:54

I have a feb birthday and it’s great, it is always during half term so I never had to go to school on my birthday!

WhenZoomWasJustAnIceLolly · 16/06/2021 10:50

DC has a late November birthday and it’s crap. Already too close to Christmas. Weather is shocking and everything closed for birthday outings / parties. Delays getting ready for Christmas as I don’t feel I can start getting ready until after the birthday.
Other dc birthdays are Summer and it’s great.
