For me it's Morning Fresh. I thought it was shite a decade ago. Bought it again recently and it is still crap. It doesn't lather and my usual Aldi own brand is far superior. How on earth has it survived this long?

YABU because Morning Fresh is not a premium brand. It's definitely cheap and cheerful.

Hunter wellies are over rated. My daughter worked for a shop that sold them and we all have a pair of the faulty ones. Lots of them were faulty.

RightOnTheEdge · 15/06/2021 09:25

Havianna flip flops. Rip off.
My xp is Brazilian and he was totally bemused when I told him Haviannas were an expensive brand of flip flop here.

Cottoncandyandpeaches · 15/06/2021 09:25

Lush-overpriced,over smelly and full of artificial colours
Pandora-over hyped
Dyson-mine got to a year and started spitting rather than sucking
Next/m&s/joe browns-two washes and it all fades/bobbles
Clarks-they would last 3 weeks (I’ll give next their dues-the boys shoes really lasted-the girls shoes lasted a fortnight)

SticksAndStoned · 15/06/2021 09:26

Heinz is premium as it's named

Rubbish. Being named makes it a brand.

Primark is named. It's certainly not premium.

ILoveShula · 15/06/2021 09:26

Most brands on here aren't premium.

Many brands become fashionable, and then go downhill, as many have already posted.

Chocolate is mostly unpleasant now. i used to love Cadbury's dairy milk but I won't touch it now.

mam0918 · 15/06/2021 09:29

Almost anything premium or expensive I dont understand.

The more modern tech gets the easier it breaks and paying a lot for a lable always seemed insane to me.

People just love to waste money though. The one that confuses me the most is designer shoes though, people pay £300 for basic black court shoes but because they have a name like 'Jimmy Choo' or 'Louboutin' they think it makes them better even though no one can tell unless you specifically brag about it, my £5 pair look just as good and do the same job lol.

I also assume most people walking around with big price 'designer brand lables' (louis vitton bags, chanel jewellery etc...) that are labled all over on their stuff are usually fake market rip offs anyway so its not remotely impressive lol.

prettybird · 15/06/2021 09:34

McVities Jaffa Cakes. The Lidl equivalents are sooooooo much better Grin

prettybird · 15/06/2021 09:35

@RagzReturnsRebooted

Jaffa Cakes. Dry, rubbish texture, too much sponge, horrible to eat. Lidl own brand however, are lovely. Good ratio of sponge to jammy stuff and better chocolate coating. Ditto Aldi and a few others.

Tetley tea. Weak shite.

Hadn't RTFT when I posted my comment @RagzReturnsRebooted BlushGrin

CinnamonCurls · 15/06/2021 09:37

@PattyPan No we're in a soft water area in Wales! No idea why the lather is so rubbish, event is weak too, I agree!

I knew this thread would be full of people saying Dyson! It's true that my newer ball style Dyson isn't as solid feeling as the original upright Dyson, but it still does a great job and I'm very happy with it. And I love my cordless one too! So easy to clean the stairs and under the dining table.

I agree with Hunter though, I had my first pair for 10 years, but when I eventually replaced them the new ones were shite.

hedgehogger1 · 15/06/2021 09:44

@1forAll74

I used to use Morning Fresh washing up liquid in the 1960 's era when I got married,and also one called Squezy. There wasn't a lot to choose from then, except from Fairy liquid.. Some older people still used to wash up with a Bar of green household soap, just swished about in a bowl of hot water,to make a few bubbles.
Is this why fairy liquid is green?!
neverenoughchelseaboots · 15/06/2021 09:47

Yep, Hotel Chocolat for sure.

PerciphonePuma · 15/06/2021 09:48

@groovergirl

I admit I'd never throw even cheap chocolate in the bin in disgust.

I did this recently. It was Lindt. I'd had Lindt before, so I knew how bad it was, but I was desperate for some full-strength so bought a slab of Lindt 90%. Luckily it was on special so I had no qualms when dropping it in the compost bin and declaring "never again". Terrible stuff yet they spend a fortune on advertising it as a gourmand's delight.

I second all the Heinz Beanz nominations, and it sounds like your UK version is as crap as our Australian-made one. The beans themselves are fine but I always rinse off the sugary, inedible sauce and plonk the beans into an arrabbiata sauce (with fine-chopped zucchini) of my own making for Gourmet Baked Beans! DD loves it.

You CANNOT put chocolate in a compost bin!!! It has (albeit a small amount of) dairy in it!!!
yearoflostyouth · 15/06/2021 09:49

Most fancy chocolate is made fancy by including far too much emulsifer/ soya lechitin, which is v bad for your digestive health. It emulsifies your insides.

Designer perfume. Just expensive chemicals.

Hold on- I think this is a completely different argument though?

I don't think everything luxury is just a con, and you can get equivalent at a different price point?

If you're in the market for a black high heel shoe and you've worn Jimmy Choos before, there is a marked difference, a real design and materials difference which makes for a wearing experience that I would say is different to a £5 heel. That's not snobbery from me at all - I actually don't choose that style of shoe anymore - but there really is a difference, the feel of the Romy heel shape and the design, the soft leather, the fact it doesn't rub or chafe at the toe.. I don't know, I just think in that case there is something you pay for and it's tangible.

PerciphonePuma · 15/06/2021 09:52

@PurpleFlower1983

Louis Vuitton - in particular the Neverfull type bags that are made of treated CANVAS for around £1000. I think most people believe they’re leather. The craftsmanship is good but how they justify that price is beyond me.
I agree - massively overpriced. If you look at the history of LV though, they were made to be canvas intentionally as they started off making just luggage and leather suitcases peel. So LV began making cases from canvas which when manufactured correctly, is much more hard wearing
Thewiseoneincognito · 15/06/2021 09:55

I love my Dyson, it works fantastically, a quick clean of the filter and it’s like new every time. I think some of the hate on here is from those whose budget just reaches a Vax 😉

Lochroy · 15/06/2021 09:55

Morning Fresh is not a premium washing up liquid. It's a mid range brand which falls between Fairy (which is premium) and supermarkets' own brands.

Baylis and Harding is a cheapo version of Molton Brown.

I agree with pp about Hunters since they moved production to China, but that's branding at its best. Quality drops but some people are so bought into the brand, the don't, or choose not to notice.

What a horrible thing to say. That anyone who criticises it, cannot afford it?! Hmm
NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 15/06/2021 09:57

Not a lot mentioned on here is what I would call a "premium" brand. Heinz beans lol, a 40p tin of beans is not a premium product.

I would say:
Range rovers. Lots of friends have these and they seem to need constant expensive repairs.

Hunter wellies - don't last especially well.

I generally find any "brand" bought out by a private equity firm deteriorates steadily in quality until its basically crap.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 15/06/2021 10:00

Ps I think some "premium" or luxury products are better made or higher quality, but usually not so much so as to justify the price differential.

Eg a more expensive bag could be 4 times as long lasting but the "luxury" type brand ones will be 10 times the price - a hefty whack of what you are paying is for fashion label not solely the better quality or design.

SticksAndStoned · 15/06/2021 10:01

Lindt 90% doesn't have dairy as an ingredient. At worst it might have small traces because it's made in the same factory as products that do contain dairy. I think it'll be fine.

Fkrkrodps · 15/06/2021 10:03

L’occitane. It looks cheap and smells of nothing. Maybe I’ve just tried the wrong things from there.
