For me it's Morning Fresh. I thought it was shite a decade ago. Bought it again recently and it is still crap. It doesn't lather and my usual Aldi own brand is far superior. How on earth has it survived this long?

Richmond sausages...full of cereal and very little else...The filling looks like my cats sick! Just vile.

SmellThis · 15/06/2021 11:07

I love my Dyson, its been worth every penny
Agree about Karen millen as soon as she sold out it nosed dived, same as the body shop and Laura Ashley
My Beko appliances have far outlasted my more expensive previous ones

Gilda152 · 15/06/2021 11:23

@Thewiseoneincognito Totally agree about the Nespresso shops!

Sportysporty · 15/06/2021 11:24

Really having a hard time with what people assert are 'premium' brands 😂

ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 15/06/2021 11:26

@AgeLikeWine

Land Rover & Range Rover SUVs. Unreliable, badly built, poor quality junk.

They may look good & be fantastic off-road in theory, but nobody ever uses them for that purpose because they are always in the dealer’s workshops having yet another electrical fault fixed. Or not fixed, if the entirely useless dealership in my area is typical.

Agreed. Range Rovers are super plush and comfortable but delicate mechanically and particularly with all the electrical bits which is a bit ridiculous for £100k plus top end models. Great for off road at gymkhana but never wishing to take it off the beaten track adventuring. Perhaps best suited for school runs but get the hybrid tech models for longevity as anti motoring laws/taxes become more of a thing.

@Acatnamedfox

Smeg - breaks so easily Charlotte Tilbury - so cheap Clinique - gives me the shivers

These probably aren’t “premium” enough for the Ladies and Aristocracy of mumsnet but they’re all a waste of money and massively disappointing 😂

Oh yes I found Clinique so disappointing. I bought the 3 step cleanser, moisturiser and toner years ago. The moisturiser left my skin feeling dry and the toner was like rubbing nail varnish remover over my face.
JewelGarden · 15/06/2021 11:31
@FuckyouCovid21 lol I was going to put Henry instead of Vax for the low budget example 😂 how is a Henry even remotely better than a Dyson? 😂🤣😂
Henry should be a premium product! Literally lasts forever, never loses suction. Has a personality!! Falls over a stupid amount though and requires assistance to get up.

ILoveShula · 15/06/2021 11:34

I suspect that brands may produce different quality for different outlets or markets. Are the cheap Nies and Ascs in Sp Dir the same models and quality as the ones in a top sportswear retailer?

Well the Henry works better than the Dyson I had so for me, that's how it's better. I never said it was a premium brand rather it's better than the premium brand Dyson I had

Some of the items listed here as 'premium' are what I'd consider more 'luxury'. But it depends on your budget and tastes, surely. I know plenty of people who think I go for premium brands because I can buy Branston or BirdsEye rather than Smartprice. I don't rate Heinz beans or Dyson vacuum cleaners.I don't mind Hotel Chocolat, but to me that's not premium or luxury. I'd happily pay £30 for a smallish box of good, genuinely handmade chocolates, but I'd be horrified at the notion of spending £50 on a candle. A fucking candle!
Annoymoususer · 15/06/2021 11:42

Hoovers.. I have a shark and spent most of my time calling it a big dirty b*stard, the battery lasts 10 minutes, and if you don't put the battery in right it falls out onto your feet. It says it is anti hair rollers, that's a big lie too, I can make a wig out of the hair caught in the rollers!

well my Henry actually sucks up the crap from the floor, and my Dyson didnt.

ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 15/06/2021 11:45

Premium white goods and home appliances brands including Smeg, Siemens/Bosch and some KitchenAid are of lower quality than before. Possibly more built to a price point than for durability and longevity. Miele is possibly the best value premium white goods brand that favours durability quality than shorten designed by default built in obsolescence. If only there was an ethical, ecological, economical right to repair than unnecessary throw away disposable society. Smeg retro do indeed look über cool along with Kitchen Aid etc.

Some Apple and Samsung products are also a bit overpriced and underwhelming. Particularly as the latest and greatest is rapidly the new old “rubbish” model. Xiaomi is for most intents and purposes a better value quality proposition.

stillcrazyafterall · 15/06/2021 11:46

Harley Davidson- they rely on the name and the hype.

Me too. Richmond sausages, Heinz beans and Morning Fresh are not and never have been premium. Branded maybe, but not premium.

Morning Fresh is something you find in independent corner shops and shops on camping sites. I'm not being snobby because we use camping site shops and local shops ourselves.

Branston baked beans aren't premium either, but they are so much nicer than Heinz.

MozzchopsThirty · 15/06/2021 11:57

@prettybird totally agree, the lidl Jaffa cakes are far superior to all others, particularly mcvities and Sainsbury's

I'm going to try Branston beans now after this thread. I'm a Heinz person but willing to give it a try

Dinkydody · 15/06/2021 11:58

Isn’t Morning fresh the cheap washing up liquid you get in Poundland 🤔

supermoonrising · 15/06/2021 12:01

@Meme69
iphones are shockingly over priced. They are basically a land-line s they always need plugging in as the battery is so rubbish. I got the X and took it back and swapped for a Huawei. The battery lasts up to 48 hours even with moderate use. I'd never go back to an iPhone.

I have a Hussein currently and my wife has an iPhone. Huaweis are great phones, especially given the price vs iPhone. However the cameras are just not nearly as good as iPhone IMO. They make everything look really fake and colours over saturated, possibly because the trend in the Chinese market is for brighter/dramatic colours and stronger picture editing. It’s a shame cos they’re awesome phones otherwise but I’ll stick with my iPhone.

supermoonrising · 15/06/2021 12:01

*Huawei, not Hussain! I’ll get an iPhone next time.

PattyPan · 15/06/2021 12:02

@ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia totally agree, I’ve just bought a dualit toaster not because I wanted a premium one (and DP complained about the price) but because it’s the only one I could find that was actually repairable!

Gwenhwyfar · 15/06/2021 12:03

@Marmite27

Heinz beans. DC had them on a meal at a play gym the other day and I honestly thought they were the cheapest of cheap beans.
Ah no. Heinz are the best. The other brands are chewy.
JinglingHellsBells · 15/06/2021 12:08

Never heard of Morning Fresh.
If you'd said Method, I'd have understood.

I think Jo Mallone is all smoke and mirrors.

Mulberry have created a brand where they think charging silly money makes them covetable and a status symbol.

twinkletwinklepops · 15/06/2021 12:08

i recently knocked Cadbury's milk chocolate products off my favourites list, I start to find them too sweet.

Millymog · 15/06/2021 12:12

most "fine wine" is emperor new clothes especially in the expotential rise in price at the top end for something not really very distinguishable.

Millymog · 15/06/2021 12:13

i would be interested to hear which lower price mark items people think are better in quality and/or value - eg branston beans.
