Do you find it funny when people trip over?

I have friends that are, on the whole, generally polite. We are in our 30s. When it comes to a member of our group tripping over though, that all goes to shit and everyone thinks it's bloody hilarious! I remember being at school and if anyone tripped over, they would always be greeted by a "wheeyyyy" and a clap. I genuinely have never found it funny, but wondered what other people think?

No, because I'm a grownup.

Exactly
MilesOfSand · 14/06/2021 19:28

Also to add - I don’t find pranks funny either really. Anything that involves other people’s humiliation just isn’t funny to me. It reminds me of the thread the other day where (usually) men serving in shops etc make deadpan comments to women they think are hilarious but it just doesn’t make sense.

OrangeSharked · 14/06/2021 19:29

@speakout because firstly he collapsed, he didn't fall. Secondly it was very clear something was wrong. Pretty much every single person on this thread has said it depends on the situation and no one has said they laugh when people are genuinely hurt or in this case having a medical emergency.

SappysCurry · 14/06/2021 19:30

But how would they know that if the initial reaction is to laugh at them

Jahebejrjr · 14/06/2021 19:30

@speakout I am afraid if you should have made that point more clearly than you did because you expressed it in an offensive manner.
I also see the ‘I’m too intellectual’ brigade have arrived to stand shoulder to shoulder with their self-righteous brethren.

‘Brigade’

Love it. Very Daily Mail.

Dumbledoresgirl · 14/06/2021 19:33

@SappysCurry

I mean morally of course, as you know - the fact you want to laugh but manage to heroically suppress it doesn’t make any difference
Oh well, I guess I can live with being immoral in your eyes.
godmum56 · 14/06/2021 19:35

@Sparklfairy

Strangers, no. Friends and family are fair game though Grin
this
SappysCurry · 14/06/2021 19:36

@MilesOfSand

I don’t like it but I also find it kind of a bit thick. I love sharp, observational witty humour. I’m not saying I’m those things, but that’s the stuff that makes me laugh.
It is thick It makes me think of ‘wild pissed up hens in magaluf’ type reality shows where you see them downing shots and then fall over on the vomit strewn pavement with a pink Lycra clad behind uncovered and their mates are all cackling uncontrollably

Sooooo funny though

XenoBitch · 14/06/2021 19:39

I find it funny, and I can't help that. I also find farts hilarious. So , sue me.

MilesOfSand · 14/06/2021 19:39

@SappysCurry I do get that you can’t help what makes you laugh to a certain extent though. It’s interesting how much it varies.

EnfieldRes · 14/06/2021 19:40

Nah never found it funny.

Might have laughed along at high school if someone was not hurt and seemed generally to be able to handle it. Maybe. But probably not even then.

But as an adult? Honestly pathetic to laugh at someone tripping or falling

OrangeSharked · 14/06/2021 19:42

Lol, I'm thick, I'm immoral Grin some falls are just funny

I once went on a walk with my friends, it was really muddy and we kept all falling on our bums. It was just really funny, everytime we stood up back down we went. We were all covered in mud and because we were laughing we had even less balance.

We could have had a shite day by all walking around embarrassed because we were muddy, but instead we had a great day, distracted ourselves from the mud and actually have a lovely memory that we still all laugh about. You sometimes have to laugh to turn a bad situation into a good one.

Theres a massive difference between 5 mid 20s slipping on our bums in some mud, than a man collapsing on a football pitch. And it concerns me more that some posters can't tell the difference between those situations.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 14/06/2021 19:43

No, there's something a bit weird about people who find other people's humiliation and pain funny.

OrangeSharked · 14/06/2021 19:46

@SappysCurry whats wrong with being thick?

CoraPirbright · 14/06/2021 19:47

I have to confess that I do find it very funny! If it genuinely looks like the person has hurt themselves then I would not laugh and would worry if they were ok. But otherwise cannot help laughing. I slipped over in the shower the other day and roared with laughter imagining what I must have looked like Blush Grin

Thenose · 14/06/2021 19:50

No, I don't and I've never understood why people do.

myusernamewastakenbyme · 14/06/2021 19:51

Im ashamed to admit it too but i find people slipping over hilarious....obviously not if they've hurt themselves but seeing someone slip on ice...water...oil etc always makes me howl with laughter.

finished31 · 14/06/2021 19:54

@ChangePart1

I hate myself for this but it’s one of the funniest things in the world to me. I’d never openly laugh though! And would offer assistance.
This is me!

I always make sure the person is ok rather that laugh hysterically 'in their face!'

I done some whooper falls in my time myself and I'm sure many people have laughed at me. Maybe it's nervousness but it can't be helped.

Not a fall but still.....I remember one time handing my mum a cup of boiling tea and the cup somehow fell and it spilt all down her back. She was royally annoyed pissed off with me but I thought it was hilarious.

Jahebejrjr · 14/06/2021 19:55

@MilesOfSand I am about as far from a Daily Mail type as you could possibly get. The word brigade seemed very appropriate in the circumstances..

MaMelon · 14/06/2021 19:56

To all of you who find it funny - do you all wait until you know that the person is ok before you laugh? When I find something find I laugh straight away because it’s bloody funny - I can’t imagine waiting a while before I laugh Confused

UrbanRambler · 14/06/2021 19:56

@Iminaglasscaseofemotion

@Iminaglasscaseofemotion That's the way I feel too. I think people who laugh at those things lack empathy and/or are emotionally immature/not very bright. I've always hated You've Been Framed, but others love it and the world would be very dull if we all liked the same things.
speakout · 14/06/2021 19:57

MaMelon but someone may be hurt?

KeepingTrack · 14/06/2021 19:57

Yep I’ve fallen over, badly hurt myself and the answer around was laughing.

Twats!

My ankle was so badly twisted, I couldn’t put my foot on the floor.
But yes so hilarious isn’t it….
