Do you find it funny when people trip over?

I have friends that are, on the whole, generally polite. We are in our 30s. When it comes to a member of our group tripping over though, that all goes to shit and everyone thinks it's bloody hilarious! I remember being at school and if anyone tripped over, they would always be greeted by a "wheeyyyy" and a clap. I genuinely have never found it funny, but wondered what other people think?

I don't usually but once my entire family was at the beach, my uncle brought his dog. My nan tripped over the dog, the dog then ran between her legs and got his lead tangled on her leg and kind of dragged her down, she then stood up, was dragged down again and kind of semi dragged along the beach. Never laughed as hard, got it all on video and the entire family still laugh when we share it with each other.

No - but I remember the galloping fanny Grin

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 14/06/2021 21:25

I agree. No funny. Humiliating for the person.

KeepingTrack · 14/06/2021 21:27

That’s ok @MaMelon because @XenoBitch isn’t really laughing. Just a small snort that no one will notice.

And then she will turn her back on them because she is too anxious to help……

xeno you’ve just proven that my experience was exactly that.
No help and laughing at me (btw people can tell if you are snorting/hidding your laugh even behind their back).

MaMelon · 14/06/2021 21:28

Tripping over is slapstick @XenoBitch? Is that how you see it - like something you see on screen that you’re totally detached from?

SappysCurry · 14/06/2021 21:29

Beheading videos ??
Do they exist then ?
New to me

Like I said upthread, I had people laughing at me and filming me on their phones when I was attempting a public suicide. I am too anxious to help people... I am sorry about that. I can not help that at all.

As old as the internet.
SappysCurry · 14/06/2021 21:32

Not on my radar I’m happy to admit

Why would you even want to know about that ?

KeepingTrack · 14/06/2021 21:33

I’m not sure that being treated like shit is a good reason to treat people like that too…..

SappysCurry · 14/06/2021 21:33

@XenoBitch

You sound morbid

Have you never had someone get you to watch a video and it was something you were not expecting? I don't know how old you are, but the during the early days of domestic internet access, people "pranked" eachother with this all the time.
Pottedpalm · 14/06/2021 21:34

I tripped ( over a large pair of feet) and fell flat in my face in front of my my year 11 class. No one laughed, not one!

I am. Is the only way I can get through the day. Sorry for that.

Justme10 · 14/06/2021 21:34

@XenoBitch isn't the only person who said they laugh and she's not saying she doubles over roaring with laughter while pointing. Also isn't the only person who said they wouldn't help but is the only person get a hard time from multiple posters.

I have never treated anyone like shit. I am not sure where you got that from.
MaMelon · 14/06/2021 21:35

I’m so sorry you had that experience @Xenobitch - that’s absolutely awful. You must have been desperately unhappy to have attempted suicide and to not have had kindness from everyone around you is heartbreaking to read. I hope you’re doing a bit better now?

Smokeahontas · 14/06/2021 21:36

If it’s something like Naomi Campbell ending up on her hoop on the catwalk, yes.

Smarshian · 14/06/2021 21:36

Haven’t RTFT but it totally depends on the situation.
My 4 year fell into the toilet the other day. No injury but legs sticking out - hilarious!
My DF tripped with his hands in his pockets and face planted the pavement - really not funny.

topwings · 14/06/2021 21:37

I fall quite a bit so I would never think it's funny.

I can see how a stumble with a weird move to save yourself might raise a smile but not an actual fall where the person might have hurt themselves.

WhoWants2Know · 14/06/2021 21:37

I fall down a lot and have all my life. I usually see the funny side eventually, even if it initially hurts.

I work with a lot of people with balance and mobility issues, who can fall at times as well. It helps to keep things light and relaxed so that people don't stop moving for fear of falling. So those of us who have been around for a long time might strike a funny pose like an Olympic gymnast after we fall, or something like that to egg on the laughter. It seems to help.

I did feel sorry for Carrie in SATC though when she fell over
Squirrelblanket · 14/06/2021 21:43

No I don't find it funny and I always feel awful for the person being laughed at.

AmIPeriOrAreYouJustAnnoying · 14/06/2021 21:43

It's not funny.
