crying woman dilemma

This morning I opened the door to a distraught woman. After I'd managed to calm her down a bit it seems her Husband has told her their marriage is over because he is in love with me. This was a bit of a surprise because I don't actually know this man. She wants me to talk to him and tell him I'm not interested. What would you do it feels he's a bit stalkerish and I definitely don't want to be giving him any encouragement by speaking to him. I do really feel for his poor wife

@Catfunk is that the netflix thing now I'm thinking the woman's unhinged

@hullabaloo68

I don't know he's stalkerish I meant how he's behaving seems that way. I work in a cafe so I'm assuming he might be a customer
What do you mean you're 'assuming'?

Surely that was the very first question you asked her?

BlueDaises · 13/06/2021 23:06

how odd 😳

Ugzbugz · 13/06/2021 23:07

Very odd, would suspect checking the house out, do you have a nice house so to speak?

LEMtheoriginal · 13/06/2021 23:08

Oookay

Brunts12 · 13/06/2021 23:09

Did you ask her where did she get your address from?
I’d stay way out of it and we’ll done for contacting 101. Hope they won’t bother your again Flowers

Theunamedcat · 13/06/2021 23:10

Did you not ask who the fuck is your husband?

hullabaloo68 · 13/06/2021 23:10

I didn't really think to ask anything much @worraLiberty it was all too weird at the time

Aye

'All too weird' is a very good description.

So how did the conversation go? Confused.
katy1213 · 13/06/2021 23:14

You've clearly engaged in quite a conversation with her. It would have been, "Not today, thank you,' from me and the door closed before she got to the end of the first sentence.

OnTheBoardwalk · 13/06/2021 23:15

I thought this was a known scam to get you to open the door to a distressed woman?

I'm really surprised the police haven’t heard of it

hullabaloo68 · 13/06/2021 23:15

@Ugzbugz I live in a very average council house
@Theunamedcat she said his name he doesn't appear to be on social media

Hang on wasn’t there a thread a few weeks back about some woman messaging and calling the OP about her husband being in love with her, and she refused to believe OP didn’t even know him.

Ended up with police getting involved with crazy woman.

Seems a bit of an odd thing to keep happening!

HollowTalk · 13/06/2021 23:16

Check he wasn't around the back of the house while she kept you preoccupied at the front.

osbertthesyrianhamster · 13/06/2021 23:19

Scam or casing for burglaries. I'd call the police if she comes round again.

hullabaloo68 · 13/06/2021 23:24

@katy1213 The conversation was pretty short she blurted everything out I said calm down I've no idea who your talking about then the door was shut

Could there be mistaken identity - the 'other woman' might actually be another neighbour, or someone else connected with the cafe? Did the distraught woman use your name?

Birminghambloke · 13/06/2021 23:36

Weird. I’d say it was a scam. I had one with a lost pet a few years back. I was the only one in my block of flats at the time to receive a ‘have you seen my pet’ leaflet. Then observed two women looking in my windows and watching from the carpark after a random speak on doorbell phone, saying pet tracked to be in my home. Shortly after a male came by. A neighbour intervened and spoke to him as I did not open my door. I think it was to attempt to come in my home. I reported it to police. Why only my flat? Why not all if a missing pet? Wouldn’t it be tracked to the block of flats not just mine? Thankfully I was moving out! I changed my movement patterns after that!
Glad you’ve taken some actions.

BanditoShipman · 13/06/2021 23:39

This feels like the ‘anonymous note says my dh is cheating thread’ from a few days ago. Was deleted for being a PBP.

hullabaloo68 · 13/06/2021 23:42

@StayCalm99 sadly I'm post menopausal hatchet faced not fall - in - loveable so this is looking very much like a scam.
