Yes! I adore it!

PomegranateQueen · 13/06/2021 23:15

Hate the thought that funeral services will have taken place, so dead people have been inside

That was my first thought, but then there would have been just as many baptisms and weddings too.

I think the heating bills would be scarier than any ghosts Grin

I think it is absolutely gorgeous OP - just beautiful, I would move in in a heartbeat. It has so much character and the stained glass...breathtaking.

SprayedWithDettol · 13/06/2021 23:16

They can cost £££££ to convert into a home and can lack a cosy feel.

As for a graveyard garden, if it is still active or has war graves, you will have to accept your garden isn’t private. If it is inactive then you will have v quiet neighbours.

Nohugstoday25 · 13/06/2021 23:17

I think I have come to the conclusion we are never going to find a house we all agree on !

Is this it?
Looks very nice.

Peoniesandpeaches · 13/06/2021 23:27

It would depend on if the inside space is practical and if I’d have any garden or if it was just an old graveyard. I don’t really believe in ghosts and im not religious so it would purely be down to practicalities and aesthetics for me

Oh come on, you can't not tell us who, god the nosiness is killing me

Yes,@Rachelheels - you've got me googling 'celebrities' who live in Kew.

Any of these...recent ones of course?
Michael Ball? Ferne Cotton, Judith Kerr ( died recently), Samantha Bond....

ErrolTheDragon · 13/06/2021 23:37

I wouldn't have thought a Victorian Methodist church would ever have had a graveyard.

PotassiumChloride · 13/06/2021 23:41

Yes. I have a relative who lives in a converted church with graves in the garden and it’s a beautiful property.

Zzelda · 13/06/2021 23:45

I've never liked converted churches when I've seen them on programmes like Escape to the Country. I don't like properties that are too open plan because I like to have separate living rooms so that we can escape from each other when we want to and, in particular, I fantasise about having my own snug/library/craft room as a retreat. Also I don't like mahoosively high ceilings because I wonder about heating costs and how on earth you manage to keep the top bits of rooms reasonably clean and free of dust and cobwebs.

TwatCat · 13/06/2021 23:48

Yeah I'd love there no problem.
We were looking at places the other night and the one came with a graveyard and DH was like "nah I dunno about that!" Lmao

Zzelda · 13/06/2021 23:49

Over £3 million for a property that you're going to have to spend a hell of a lot more on? Definitely not!

GloriousMystery · 13/06/2021 23:50

@LubaLuca

I have friends that live in an old chapel. It's lovely, but the living room is a massive double height thing, while the bedrooms are all a bit small in a sort of mezzanine upper floor. The kitchen feels claustrophobic because it's under the mezzanine and the ceiling is too low. I suppose what I mean is you've got to have enough height for two proper storeys which they don't all have. Also, the outside space is very small - the 'garden' is basically the paths around the chapel, the graveyard is fenced off and not part of their property.
Yes, I had friends who used to live in a converted church. Exactly as you say, the space felt too huge in some ways — giant, double height open-plan living space where you could easily have held a ball but difficult to heat evenly — and too cramped and afterthought-ish in others (mezzanine bedrooms, kitchen in old vestry/ baptistry). It just felt like a building that didn’t convert easily into a workable living space for the average person/family. They had a graveyard, but not a hint of ghost.

@Nohugstoday25

Inside
Are you sure it's converted? Just looks like a church to me!

The floor plan shows that it is.

Haha I really don’t want to say in case I’m wrong, I’ll try to find out though today. I’m virtually certain I know, I’m cabin crew and I’ve enjoyed many, many flights where this person has been a passenger, we’ve often had 10/12 hour conversations if it’s who I think it is. I’m virtually certain it’s their car on the drive, and the house does match the description of a property they own from what they’ve told me but I just need to know for sure before I look daft haha
DappledThings · 14/06/2021 07:37

I'd be hugely wary but only because of my PIL's experience. They had an offer accepted on a beautiful converted chapel last year until the survey showed horrendous damp problems and an estimate of £50k to make good. They walked away .
