Bit attention seeking

vampirethriller · 13/06/2021 22:32

I would, a graveyard wouldn't bother me either

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 13/06/2021 22:32

I would love it.

And it would be quiet.

Sold. Smile

A family I follow are currently in the process of converting a church in to a home. It's an amazing journey 😍

The church bit wouldn't bother me (despite not being exactly mainstream in my spiritual beliefs), but the heating bills might!!

WouldBeGood · 13/06/2021 22:34

I wouldn’t. It would just freak me. I know it’s irrational but I couldn’t do it.

Susie477 · 13/06/2021 22:34

I would be worried about the cost of heating that enormous space in winter, but I suppose that if you can afford to spend £3.2m on a house, you are rich enough to not have to worry about heating bills. In much the same way that if you can afford a Rolls-Royce, you don’t worry about 10mpg.

ReviewingTheSituation · 13/06/2021 22:34

I grew up in one. My parents converted it in the 70s. They loved it, as did we kids. A great building, with bags of character.

RandomMess · 13/06/2021 22:35

@Nohugstoday25 yeah already reported it 😂

Nohugstoday25 · 13/06/2021 22:36

Not a chance, it feels a bit disrespectful for me to do. I don’t judge others who do

Pepsipepsi · 13/06/2021 22:37

@Nohugstoday25 I know someone who rented a first floor flat in a converted church and it was sweltering in summer as the skylights didn't offer enough ventilation. A whole house might be better I guess for airflow.

Zodlebud · 13/06/2021 22:38

Having lived in one myself, I would say no!!!

There's very very little natural light and a lot of the windows can't be opened. Bathrooms are usually not ventilated by anything other than an extractor fan and they get very mildewy. The high ceilings get incredibly dusty and covered in cobwebs and my building was listed so we couldn't have a TV Ariel or satellite dish and in the days before streaming services this meant we could only watch DVDs.

I would check out the light and window situation VERY carefully. If you're ok with it then they are very grand places to live.

Thankfully we only rented.

ShaunaTheSheep · 13/06/2021 22:39

That one wouldn't tempt me because I'd forever be hankering after the Grand Designs house next door.

Rachelheels · 13/06/2021 22:41

I’m almost certain I know the person selling this property, an extremely well regarded well liked person of international fame who has lived there a long time.

If I’m correct about who the owner is I’m very jealous, it’s an amazing house with lots of history and has seen some amazing celebrities in and out of its doors for dinner parties etc

WithLargeTableMouse · 13/06/2021 22:42

I’d love to live in a converted church but you have to be very careful with the window positioning Grin offbeathome.com/unusual-real-estate-church/

Nohugstoday25 · 13/06/2021 22:42

@Rachelheels really ?
I don’t know anything
But think we might book a viewing !

TableFlowerss · 13/06/2021 22:43

Definitely- it’s stunning and so unique. It would be nice to know that no one else has the same house!

Have a look at @welshchapelconversion on Instagram. I would never have wanted to before seeing their renovation but they're done an amazing job.

Londonmummy66 · 13/06/2021 22:46

Garden is really small for £3m I would expect a bit more really.

Davros · 13/06/2021 22:47

I do but it was a very small church, only two dwellings made out of it. Big open space with high ceilings and lots of nooks and crannies. The upstairs is good.
We bought a house last year which is part of a converted school, right nextdoor to a church. These got dug up when we were doing the garden

tara66 · 13/06/2021 22:47

No.

Toddlerteaplease · 13/06/2021 22:47

I'd love it. As long as the original features were kept. They had one on HUH that still had the organ. I was disappointed that the buyers got rid of it.
