Would you live in a converted church

Nope, absolutely not.

Hate the thought that funeral services will have taken place, so dead people have been inside. I've tried to rationalise my fears...and can't.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 13/06/2021 22:50

I'd love that!

www2.richmond.gov.uk/plandata2/Planning_CASENO.aspx?strCASENO=14/0489/HOT&DocTypeID=7#docs

There’s a report here with background saying it was a Victorian Methodist church conveyed to residential use in the 1960s

Personally I really don’t like the decor as it reminds me too much of a church hall (abd the bathrooms aren’t great) but if you do go for it!

MothershipG · 13/06/2021 22:53

I take it you know the area? It's just off the South circular which is often very congested around there.
But amazing building, although with a budget of that size I'm not sure it would be my first choice.

I get what you’re saying but…. People due in houses every day, even new builds!

When you buy a house, you wouldn’t know who or how many have died there. To think years gone by, the deceased was laid out to rest in the house 😧

TableFlowerss · 13/06/2021 22:54

die

godmum56 · 13/06/2021 22:54

OP you may not care but that listing is findable because the EA's name is on there

NanaNorasNaughtyKnickers · 13/06/2021 22:55

I can understand those who say no for architectural reasons. But why would anyone be scared of evil spirits? Obviously they don't exist outside of children's imaginations but anyway wouldn't they be far more likely to come and murder you in a three-bed semi in Stevenage than on hallowed ground? where archangels and indeed Jesus Christ Him Very Self would rise up and vanquish them

autumnboys · 13/06/2021 22:56

I absolutely would (check the heating bills though!).

Lorw · 13/06/2021 22:56

Not a chance 😂

partyatthepalace · 13/06/2021 22:57

I’d LOVE to.

You are in God’s house so totes protected from evil. Sanctuary innit.

Chocolatier9 · 13/06/2021 22:57

I lived in one years ago. It was lovely and not at all scary. The lease forbade the practice of witchcraft though Grin, taxi drivers could never find it, and one takeaway delivery bloke seemed really put out that the pizza wasn’t for a nun.

KittyMcKitty · 13/06/2021 22:57

Yes I would live in a church. Would I live in that one? Hmmmm probably not. My biggest concern (looking at it online) is that the windows in the main living space are all really high up so if you were sitting down (and possibly standing up) you wouldn’t be able to see outside. Aside from the fact that it’s nice to see outside I think it’d also make the space quite claustrophobic and gloomy.

Umberellatheweatha · 13/06/2021 22:58

Jeezo 3million quid? Yeah I'm changing my answer lol. I couldn't stay in a church I'd just spent 3 million pounds on, I'd feel like a hypocrite.

bitheby · 13/06/2021 22:59

When I was looking, I looked at a converted chapel and a house that backed on to a graveyard. For various reasons, neither were suitable but I wouldn't rule it out completely.

RickiTarr · 13/06/2021 23:03

@SchrodingersImmigrant

I would but I think I would need some kind of holy reversal on land. I blasphem too much😂
They deconsecrate them when they stop using them as churches. You’re safe. Smile

It's gorgeous but what about the Holy Spirit 👻
You might hear singing and chanting in the night Shock

You'd think you would be safer from ghosts in a church but it's just drawing attention to yourself isn't it? At least they might not find you in your 3 bed semi.
JewelGarden · 13/06/2021 23:12

@Rachelheels

I’m almost certain I know the person selling this property, an extremely well regarded well liked person of international fame who has lived there a long time.

If I’m correct about who the owner is I’m very jealous, it’s an amazing house with lots of history and has seen some amazing celebrities in and out of its doors for dinner parties etc

Oh come on, you can't not tell us who, god the nosiness is killing me Blush
TheDevils · 13/06/2021 23:13

@MyGirlDaisy

I would. Saw one on Homes underthe Hammer recently and it was fabulous.
Ooooh I think that might be my brothers and his wife's house. They have converted a church which was on homes under the hammer recently.
SemiFeralDalek · 13/06/2021 23:13

Absolutely I would. The fingerprint of prayer, love, hope, beginnings and beautiful finality will be woven into the brickwork.

Even if you don't have a belief in God, the absolute faith of thousands of people will have passed through your home and I think that's lovely.

SinkGirl · 13/06/2021 23:14

That’s my dream house. Even has the mezzanine. Sadly about £3m short.

Then again if you have £3m to spend you can probably find something better!

Nohugstoday25 · 13/06/2021 23:14

Ok but now I have found a house with a very nice wine cellar 🤣

No couldn't live in a church. I would find it creepy. Plus never have sex at home.

Not even if it was just a chapel like in Wales. Plenty of them have been converted where my mother lives. Can be very very beautiful homes but I just couldn't.
