.....along with Mariah Carey, Beyonce and a few others obviously!

Every time I hear her sing live my mind is blown! I’ve just seen the live version of ‘Save your tears’ that she did with The Weekend last week... I LOVE The Weekend, have done for years but when she comes on, he may as well not even be there (IMO) talk about stealing the show... m.youtube.com/watch?v=s37x2VSZrLw Shock

I also love her live lounge of God Is A Woman m.youtube.com/watch?v=UTtABhxErvw Shock

I don’t know, maybe I need to get out more Grin but I struggle to get that excited about other female artists atm because I just find their voices so weak and meh compared to hers Blush

I think it’s a shame you don’t really get to hear her full talent in a lot of her songs.

She can hold a tune but I can't make out what she's singing at all. Give my mikey Cyrus and link any day

NotExactlyHappyToHelp · 14/06/2021 13:12

There’s sadly no one these days who can hold a candle to Stevie Nicks. What a bloody voice!

AG annoyed me with that hideous voice on that Nickelodeon show and I’m afraid for that alone I can never forgive her.

I really like the sound of Lizzos voice. Think she’s the best offering at the moment. I like her attitude too.

ForeverSinging · 14/06/2021 14:33

She's horrendously overrated, it pains me.

Cashewsauce · 14/06/2021 14:53

I find her really mumbly.

stayathomer · 14/06/2021 15:44

I feel we all must be missing out on people here!!

SticksAndStoned · 14/06/2021 15:50

@drpet49

Can’t stand Miley Cyrus- a Poundland version of Stevie Nicks
Well, Stevie Nicks freaking rocks, so I'll take a Poundland version over Ariane Grande any day!
debbrianna · 14/06/2021 17:54

@DancesWithTortoises

She's very ordinary. Quite bland.
I always find it weired when people make comments like this. Her voice is not ordinary. It might not be to your taste or my taste. But to claim ordinary, it is not. People need to separate the tones and styles they like to vocal ability. Which she has in abundance
Comtesse · 14/06/2021 18:01

Lizzo!

Lucifersladylove · 15/06/2021 01:08

I agree @debbrianna anyone who knows anything about singing will tell you she is a very very good singer. Not enjoying her choice in music is completely separate to her ability.
Skin, Alanis Morrisette, Dolores O’Riordan, Shirley Manson are much more my thing.

Jess Glynne is a horrible person to be around.

In what capacity in the music industry are you in?*

The poster didn’t say they were in the music industry. Maybe they went to school with Jess Glynne, met her on a night out, lived in the same street as her Nan, served her in a clothes shop or restaurant etc.[/quote]
She said she worked further up with another artist which is why I asked.

WhipperSnapperSteve · 15/06/2021 03:33

Ariana Grande 🤣🤣

I'll raise you Amy Lee, Sharon den Adel and Ann/Nancy Wilson.

Aprilx · 15/06/2021 03:51

I had never heard her sing but have watched the two videos provided in OP. Does nothing for me, she does what I call “over sings” i.e. puts in unnecessary warbling, I also could not understand a single word. Not a voice I would recognise as hers again.

honeybuns007 · 15/06/2021 21:53

OP, not sure what you are posting fir. You have an opinion. Lord if other people have a different opinion but you seem to just label all the artists they prefer as 'boring'. Ok. So what's the issue. You like AG. Good for you. Some of us think she's an unintelligible over-warbler.

gingganggooleywotsit · 15/06/2021 22:01

I can’t understand a word she sings that’s the problem I always have to google the lyrics

gingganggooleywotsit · 15/06/2021 22:07

although it’s not my thing I think she sings with character, i mean nobody else really sounds like her I guess, she has her own style.

gingganggooleywotsit · 15/06/2021 22:07

But yeah, the words are sometimes unintelligible

stackemhigh · 15/06/2021 22:29

@gingganggooleywotsit

I suspect this is partly deliberate as the lyrics are so meaningless.
Hippopotas · 15/06/2021 22:30

@Euridicefortuna

Definitely not!Ever heard of:Tarja,Floor Jansen,Anneke Van Giersbergen,Amy Lee,Lzzy Hale,Simone Simons, Liv Kristine,Sharon Den Adel,Maria Brink and Cristina Scabbia.Metal/rock singers tend to have stronger/more powerful voices than pop singers. Still don't think she comes close to; Whitney,Annie,Pink,Adele or Aretha.
Rock goddesses with voices to match.
MondeoFan · 15/06/2021 23:15

I think Ariana has a great voice, lovely tone to it and I think she will hopefully keep making amazing tunes

Ginuwine · 15/06/2021 23:29

Being a singer who is notionally attractive and who can belt out a number of octaves is one thing. If that's the criteria then it's Ariana, Jennifer Hudson all day etc.

However a reason for me why I rank certain singers way above those technically great vocalists is artistry.

I love when an artist comes on a record and i instantly know it's them. Lana Del Rey. Gwen Stefani. Florence Welch.

All wonderful vocalists with varying live ability but who have found their aural sweet spot as recording artists.

I would rather listen to them and their songcraft and energy, than hear

• this month, Ariana does dayglo Eurodance!
• Ariana does trap beats with the guest rapper de jour

Etc etc..

Not to say she doesn't have any artistry, but her voice is like elderflower - it gets packaged up with all manner of random things and it's sometimes awesome, sometimes unnecessary and jarring.

ScottishNewbie · 15/06/2021 23:30

Sooooo nasal but has good range. Defo not amazing imo

SeaWitchly · 16/06/2021 22:59

I can't stand how AG sings in a baby voice, breathy sort of way. She is hard to listen to tbh.

Crinkle77 · 16/06/2021 23:54

Yeah she's got a good voice but if I heard it on the radio I wouldn't recognise it. The Weekend on the other hand I could recognise straight away. Love his voice.

Crinkle77 · 16/06/2021 23:55

@gingganggooleywotsit

But yeah, the words are sometimes unintelligible
I find this with a lot of artists at the moment. Great voices but terrible diction.
SunshineSum · 17/06/2021 00:11

She's got amazing range, pitch and technique. The kind of four square approach she has doesn't appeal to me though - I like it when vocalists do that thing where they leave just a little bit of space. Beyonce does it, Amy Winehouse was amazing at it. But bloody hell there's no doubt about her technical ability and I love her energy and focus too.
