Fucking barbecues

Polodriversclub · 13/06/2021 18:54

I live in a quiet part of a street, and we're mid terrace. Every neighbour has decided to have a fucking barbecue, every day. Don't get me wrong, it's up too them in their own gardens but does no one have any common courtesy anymore to knock or shout over the fence as say 'oh we're having a barbecue, you might want to take your washing in!' I'm getting so sick of it. We can't have a out back doors open because the smell is so strong and the smoke so intense it just smothers everything. I used to really love summer and now thanks to people who really don't give a shit, it gets ruined. Can't sit in the garden as you other get smoked out of some twat kicks a fucking ball over the fence, or even worse at your fence. Roll on a lottery win so I can move to a house in a big field!

BBQ's don't give out much smoke at all and only for a very short while. I BBQ all the time - Yum, and less mess.

TheMotherlode · 14/06/2021 19:47

Imagine knocking on your neighbours door to tell them your having a BBQ, not inviting them, just letting them know. That’s such oddball behaviour.

Ddot · 14/06/2021 19:55

Hate bbq smell, that hideous stench of burning flesh. Cheap burgers and sausages covered in grease 🤢

I would definitely assume they were inviting me. Imagine how awkward it'd be when I say I'd love to come and then they have to be like "oh no, sorry... I was just warning you in case you want to take your washing in"

@Theunamedcat

I've had to close my windows tonight someone 7 doors away is smoking us out not sure if its a barbecue or a bonfire but it stinks
They're smoking you out? From seven doors down?
JewelGarden · 14/06/2021 20:01

It doesn't really take very long to dry washing in the summer. Hang it out in the morning and collect it before the bbqs start, or even better hang it up before bed and bring it in in the morning smelling amazing (despite the spiders willies)

I know, I'd be cross that I got up to answer the door for that Grin

@StoneofDestiny

OP’s clearly never experienced the Glorious Twelfth in Northern Ireland

Not sure too many want to experience that.

I don't want to experience it and I live here!
TheBullfinch · 14/06/2021 20:08

Completely agree. Selfish bastards.

If it's not barbecues, it's fire pits, wood burning stoves or weed. What with that and the diesel particulates, it's a wonder we're still breathing.

God, I miss fresh air.

And Covid! All those selfish punk arses, going round, breathing!
Myusernameisnotmyusernameno · 14/06/2021 20:15

Once I decided to have a bbq. Went round the neighbours where we lived at the time to tell them and she opened the door a bit like what do you want. Told her and she was like whatever. An old neighbour from years ago we just used to have bbqs together. Right now someone has a bonfire going and I'd prefer the bbq smell to that.

ripples101 · 14/06/2021 20:15

I genuinely can not get annoyed about these kinds of things. If next door is having a barbecue, and my washing is on the line, I just bring it in.

Other than that, it’s no consequence to me.

Neighbours having people round? That’s entirely their prerogative. When I have friends over, that’s my prerogative.

It genuinely doesn’t bother me.

It’s my home. Next door is just as much their home as well.

Consideration for others is fine, and indeed respectful, but I just can’t help but think - let them have a good time.

Just chill out. It’s really not that big of a deal.

likestartingover · 14/06/2021 20:20

I've seen it all with neighbours and nice summer weather. Cutting the grass at 6AM, kids waterfights at 8AM, smoking week at 10AM, loud noon blow jobs ...etc... Not all in the same place!!

Considerate neighbors are not to be taken for granted!!

SchrodingersImmigrant · 14/06/2021 20:33

I have a very... Non whispery voice so i just make sure I loudly proclaime "Have you cleaned the grill? Just checking before we start it". Whole estate know right there and then😂

Ihatefish · 14/06/2021 21:02

I find all the kill joy comments hilarious. Having a go at people who want to stop you having your fun, when your fun is stopping them having theirs, to sit quiet and I disturbed in their own garden. Consideration goes both ways

MissChanandlerBong90 · 14/06/2021 21:11

I’m with you OP. We have one, and I hate it so much. My husband is a barbecue twat (ie has to barbecue everything we eat the second the temperature goes above 20 degrees). Drives me mad. I think it’s so antisocial but my DH thinks I’m a ‘killjoy’.

Rewis · 14/06/2021 21:30

There has been several bbq threads in the past few days. I have never known that bbq is this annoying according to people. I find most things my neighbours do very irritating but never bbq. Interesting.

mubbybeck · 14/06/2021 21:36

Totally this. No end of times my washing comes in smelling of smoke and yes it used to happen before all the fire pit fad too. My close neighbour and I would always tell each other if we were to have a bbq. She doesn’t do them now and it’s very rare I do but I did one during half term for my boys and I told her straight away. If I take my washing in smelly, it’s always a case of do I rewash and never get through my pile this weekend or do I just continue on.

Sadly, having had my bbq two weeks ago I shouldn’t really complain 🙈 but yes I do hate bbq-smell washing.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 14/06/2021 21:41

I think people here don't have issues with bbqs buy fire pits, because I seriously can't imagine grill making clothes and house smell and produce thick smoke like described.

Allotments burning rubbish though. Now they can absolutely do that

wishawish91 · 14/06/2021 21:43

It's the euros, it's sunny, people are going to be having BBQs, friends over, football on, drinking.

It's the summer fgs, have some fun and do a bbq yourself

Replying to myself just to add that I haven’t done a bbq myself ever, it was always done by my dad (no longer with us 😔) so I did it myself and I obviously didn’t know what I was doing because the smoke was horrendous. We all had to have a shower afterwards and clothes put straight in the machine 🙈 I felt dreadful for the surrounding houses, I felt so embarrassed 😳
YoniHuman · 14/06/2021 22:16

OP thank you for this.
I also hate BBQ’s, but would never dream of saying so to my Neighbours who ALL seem to love the fuckers. But I just don’t get the appeal.
I also hate outdoor music /festivals. (Find it boring) I’m obviously just a crotchety old cow and always have been. Grin

John69 · 14/06/2021 23:33

Yikes... I'm having a BBQ tomorrow. Fancy a burger?

It has to be a cheap greasy burger to fit in with the ethos of the thread
