Fucking barbecues

Polodriversclub · 13/06/2021 18:54

I live in a quiet part of a street, and we're mid terrace. Every neighbour has decided to have a fucking barbecue, every day. Don't get me wrong, it's up too them in their own gardens but does no one have any common courtesy anymore to knock or shout over the fence as say 'oh we're having a barbecue, you might want to take your washing in!' I'm getting so sick of it. We can't have a out back doors open because the smell is so strong and the smoke so intense it just smothers everything. I used to really love summer and now thanks to people who really don't give a shit, it gets ruined. Can't sit in the garden as you other get smoked out of some twat kicks a fucking ball over the fence, or even worse at your fence. Roll on a lottery win so I can move to a house in a big field!

I love the smell of a bbq. The only time I hate it is when I know I can't have one and it makes me hungry Blush

StoneofDestiny · 14/06/2021 18:39

Any pics of these 'bonfire of the bbq's' . Would love to know what they are doing that causes so much smoke.

StoneofDestiny · 14/06/2021 18:42

OP’s clearly never experienced the Glorious Twelfth in Northern Ireland

Not sure too many want to experience that.

2andahalfpints · 14/06/2021 18:44

Evertmytime I've checked washing sfter it's been out during a neighbours bbq it has smelt fine

SchrodingersImmigrant · 14/06/2021 18:44

I am in heaven with all the bbq threads 😂
There should be a separate topic. Would be busier than AIBU!

Shortbreadbrokemytooth · 14/06/2021 18:46

YANBU My washing is currently drying inside the house to avoid the smoke from all the surrounding neighbours!

I smelled my clothes next day. I am actually standing by the grill. Nothing. It smells little bit in the evening, nothing at all next day. Magic? 😁
CantGetDecentNickname · 14/06/2021 18:48

I'm with OP on this - YANBU. Suffered badly for a couple of years with neighbours who barbecued every day throughout the summer. Lunchtime and dinner. It meant having to keep windows closed on the hottest of days as the fumes get into the house. Not only do do the fumes smell, but they are carcinogenic. At one point they were using a chiminea and the smoke was so bad I thought they'd set fire to the entire garden. You couldn't see for smoke. Next day it had a large crack in it! Thankfully they've moved on and everyone else just has barbecues at the weekend in nice weather and usually late afternoon giving us time to bring the washing in and shut all the windows.

DagenhamRoundhouse · 14/06/2021 18:51

Rain later in the week! I hate BBQ's too.

LonelinessIsACloakYouWear · 14/06/2021 18:52

It is annoying but I don't think you or the BBQers are being U. I am also annoyed by my weed smoking neighbours. I hate it when I bring in school uniforms reeking of weed.

AbsolutelyPatsy · 14/06/2021 19:00

a bonfire is one thing but a bbq does not normally mean tell your neighbours to get in the washing!
i dont like the smell of a bbq but i do like some bonfires

Oh god weed on uniforms would be where I draw the line!
Roselilly36 · 14/06/2021 19:01

I wouldn’t think to tell my neighbours if I am having a bbq, my neighbours don’t tell me either. A bonfire is another matter completely, I wouldn’t dream of having a bonfire, they really stink.

FangsForTheMemory · 14/06/2021 19:02

Bring your washing in at mid-day. Who wants the sight of your washing spoiling their barbecue?

MagicSummer · 14/06/2021 19:06

I agree OP, I hate barbecues (and why do people have to call them BBQs now?). The smell is disgusting, the food is smoky and disgusting - I really cannot understand why people like them.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 14/06/2021 19:13

I like how you can spot people on.the thread who can't grill or have neigbours who can't grill. 🙈

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 14/06/2021 19:17

Every single year. The same threads. We'd have barbecues if we had a big enough garden. I hang my washing out every day and it doesn't smell of smoke, and the neighbours have had a few barbecues.

peppermintpat · 14/06/2021 19:18

One of my neighbours has one almost every day in good weather. The amount of lighter fluid he must put on it as it bloody stinks our house out. I go round slamming the windows shut and they don't give a shit!

anon666 · 14/06/2021 19:26

There are probably about 10 days a year where a bbq is a pleasant thing to do in the UK. Let people have some fun. It's not that hard to tolerate for a short heatwave once a year

00feckingbollocks · 14/06/2021 19:28

@Polodriversclub really you're not showing a great amount of self awareness

No one cares about anyone else it seems. It's all about me me me. I was brought up differently to have a bit of thought and care for others.

You are all a bit me me me. Let people enjoy their barbecues. It's not much to ask.

Bbq is always pleasant! unless lighting probably 🤔

I would absolutely understand if people had the smoke for 5, 6 hours on. Now then, that would be shitty. But just like music outside, if it's only for an hour max, it's tolerable. or like with anything.
Common sense is a must

Piglet89 · 14/06/2021 19:34

@StoneofDestiny thon bonfires could sizzle a queer few marshmallows, and no mistake.

Theunamedcat · 14/06/2021 19:37

I've had to close my windows tonight someone 7 doors away is smoking us out not sure if its a barbecue or a bonfire but it stinks

Forgotthebins · 14/06/2021 19:40

YANBU because bbqs are an environmental and air pollution nightmare, especially if they are charcoal (though gas is better). But on the other hand, they ANBU either, because everyone is just doing what they need to to stay sane in this shitty year after the last shitty year.

MagicSummer · 14/06/2021 19:41

It's barbecue, not BBQ!
