Ordered what I thought was a salmon fillet from the mains, this is what arrived…it was £18. I’m gutted.

Most restaurants and cafes are overcharging at the moment. I've had reason to eat out three times this week and have been stunned at the spiralling cost-and empty restaurants. Charging high prices is not a way out of the pandemic; people have less, and it will drive them away. I eat out regularly and will be cutting back.

MiddleClassProblem · 12/06/2021 22:36

If it was part of a tasting menu, I wouldn’t blink (plus wouldn’t be priced individually) but if I ordered a main, I’d expect a main.

Also I hate it when mains come with no veg etc and you are forced to order sides.

yeOldeTrout · 12/06/2021 22:36

How did it taste, OP? I'm willing to consider £18 reasonable for that portion size if it tasted dIvine .

Morechocmorechoc · 12/06/2021 22:36

If you are somewhere very posh then 18 for a main is cheap in which case yes that's a decent portion. More like 25 for a proper main, so I think it's reasonable, although I'd also rather have the full fillet. I ordered scallops starter the other day for 13 and got 1!

TheNestedIf · 12/06/2021 22:37

Unless those spots of liquid at the front are angels' tears (yes, plural), you've been ripped off.

Whatthefucculent · 12/06/2021 22:38

You wouldn't get that shit down spoons😁

ThisIsStartingToBoreMe · 12/06/2021 22:40

Also, show us how its described in the menu

Bumzoo · 12/06/2021 22:40

How was it described?

Viviennemary · 12/06/2021 22:41

Its cheeky. You should have complained.

Onairjunkie · 12/06/2021 22:41

God people are daft. It’s not a dirty plate, it’s rustically glazed. 🙄 it looks like massive hunks of raw sushi-grade salmon. Delicious. And expensive due to the way it is treated to make it safely sushi-grade.

Some people on here, honestly. Embarrassing.
Are you only happy with quantity over quality? If you want masses of food, go to a chain pub.

I agree. I’ve had two terrible meals in the last week (the first time we’ve set foot in a restaurant since last August) for very inflated prices. I understand the challenges for pubs and restaurants but I’m not paying high prices for something far worse than what I can cook at home,

Yes this! But I would expect it to taste beyond amazing.

My main issue with your pic is that I have fallen in love with that crockery...

SpeckledyHen · 12/06/2021 22:43

In all honesty I wouldn’t expect to get a mains for £18 in a ‘posh’ restaurant. That’s a starter definitely.

Can you link to the restaurant/menus?

Longdistance · 12/06/2021 22:44

That looks like a starter on dirty plates Shock

Clawdy · 12/06/2021 22:45

Looks delicious but small. Without naming restaurant, where is it?

Patapouf · 12/06/2021 22:46

I'd be so hungry after

BrownEyedGirl80 · 12/06/2021 22:47

Fuck no.My chihuahua wouldn't get full on that

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 12/06/2021 22:47

Looks delicious but tiny for a main. I think this is fairly standard in very posh restaurants though.

FAQs · 12/06/2021 22:47

It’s not a dirty plate! I have some similar Denby ones, they are rustic.

RestingPandaFace · 12/06/2021 22:47

I’d be devastated! It’s be OK as a main course on a tasting menu, but it’s too small for an à la carte main, even somewhere naice.

CarnationCat · 12/06/2021 22:48

Grin no way would I want to pay £18.

WorraLiberty · 12/06/2021 22:49

Blimey that is tight.

I would've asked if the chef was full and couldn't finish that bit.

nc8765 · 12/06/2021 22:51

Name and shame!

£18 is a rip off for that.

lastcall · 12/06/2021 22:51

Total rip off.
