Would you pay £18 for this as a main in a posh restaurant?

Ordered what I thought was a salmon fillet from the mains, this is what arrived…it was £18. I’m gutted.

@Benjispruce3

Where’s the chips?
No ketchup either. Bloody stingy, if you ask me.

I think you have uploaded the photo incorrectly OP. Where is the other half of your salmon fillet? Grin

JayAlfredPrufrock · 13/06/2021 20:34

The photo on the blog would have been too much cured salmon for me.

warmandtoasty2day · 13/06/2021 20:59

looks more like left over food scraps tbh.

countdowntonap · 13/06/2021 21:06

If it was a ‘posh restaurant’ and they had salads/veg on the side dishes then I would assume I needed to buy these.

LynetteScavo · 13/06/2021 23:04

I disagree with those saying this won't do the restaurant any favours. I hadn't heard of it before, and I would actually go now. I just wouldn't order the salmon.Grin

It even looks raw, was it smoked? That wouldn't even feed a toddler.

It looks cured.

Me too.

I think they have an expectation management problem - £18 is not a completely absurd price for a plate of sashimi-grade salmon (if that’s what it is) in a high-end setting. But if they’re serving it up as a main course the waiting staff should be make it clear that it is a very light dish. If you were ordering expecting an ordinary sized salmon fillet and sides then I’m not surprised you were disappointed.

Lachimolala · 14/06/2021 13:25

@Flowerwinter

It’s a hotel/champagne restaurant in Derbyshire. It was on the menu as a main course for £18. I understand it’s sushi grade etc but I’d expect at least a piece of bread with it or some salad?! I did query if it was a starter and he said ‘it’s a main, as it’s on a big plate’.
Is it Fischer’s @ Baslow Hall @Flowerwinter? They’ve caught me out like this before a couple of times, emergency chips on the way home last time 😂
Lachimolala · 14/06/2021 13:28

Whoops! Just seen it’s Devonshire hotels, ignore me. One day I’ll learn to read more than the OP’s posts Blush

...and this is why I only eat at the Toby Carvery!
