DD1 is 7.
She has a cuddly dog that she is totally addicted too. Hes been everywhere with us since she was around 5months old.

She sucks her thumb holding the dog and stroking its ear up and down her nose.

She doesnt do it all day long. Its mostly cuddling up on the sofa time or bedtime or if she is upset.
She is quite happy to leave him at home etc if told, but will try to sneak him out with her if she can get away with it.

Dp hates this dog. Always has. He has now stated that after christmas she wont be allowed to have it anymore

I want to say no way jose`!
AIBU?

Will she ever give him up/ grow out of it by herself?
Does she need to be forced into it?
Or should we just let her keep it (that would be my choice)

Just caught up on thread.
Will just keep you all up to date.

Dp has been told. He will not be getting rid of the dog. I said if the dig goes, i go! To which he said, "oh, right i see".

It is the thumbsucking more than anything which he doesnt like. She DOES ONLY thumb suck when she has the dog, she rubs the dogs ear up and down her nose as she sucks her thumb.

LUCYELLENSMUM she has had god knows how many sleep overs already. Dog always goes with her.

Thumbsucking isn;t a big deal. She will grow out of that, as well.

I dont have a problem with it, its him! Its not like she is doing it all day everyday, its just in those quiet moments. Even at night, once she is asleep its all over.

I will talk to him.

Dog and thumbsucking are both things she will grow out of when she's ready - I sucked my thumb till I was around 13 and ds1 aged 18 still has his (very manky) cuddly cat under the bed. It used to live on the bed but since his rock band has been practising in his room he keeps it out of sight! I don't think he'll ever throw it out though.

Glad you've had a good result with this. If it comes up again, say that if the dog goes it will be followed by the remote control and his beer

I've still got my comforter (i'm 23 and about to have my own child) it's a duck that my nain (mum's mum) gave me to make my nightmares go away. I named it dream duck and as long as I was hugging him I never had any bad dreams. I've had to have his feet recovered and his beak but it's going to be LO's when it's born.
