I didn’t know boots used to sell crockery. Does anyone recognise this?

I’ve recently been given quite a lot of kitchen stuff for my new house. I was given this crockery. I’m late 30’s and have never seen crockery in boots. It says boots company and made in Ireland. Anyone have any idea of how old it is? Thanks 😀

We used to repair small electricals there too, I remember filling out the forms.

I used to hate getting out the toasters to show customers as they'd never go back in the box afterwards!!

At Christmas time it was so busy that my hands would be blue-black from all the credit card transactions, we used to have a carbon copy machine you pulled back and fore to imprint the card.

I have two side plates and one dinner plate left from my engagement set in 1987 from Boots it’s a pale cornflower pattern.

So much smaller than today’s plates

We have a charity warehouse near us that is a crockery lovers dream I go often for a browse & see whole sets of Eternal Beau and crockery and Pyrex from years gone by ,I bought a Pyrex ‘snowflake ‘ meat platter for £1 ..it’s so retro I love it .
Maybe it’s because we have a lot of elderly people here and they get a lot donated from house clearances.

Boots used to sell all sorts of stuff in the 80s - I remember us getting our first disc drive and printer there.

I used to have a Boots long slot toaster from about 1989 and it worked well for many years. In the early 80s we had a huge separate Timothy Whites store that sold everything kitchen related and had a large section of cake icing/ sugar craft equipment. Was very sad when they closed those stores and put a tiny kitchen section in our Boots instead.

You could buy all top 40 singles from Boots or WHSmiths.

I was a Saturday girl in Boots from 1977 to 1980 and my Mum worked in the record department - it was great coz she always knew the Top 20 before it came out on the radio & I used to get the promotional posters for albums when she had finished displaying them 😎

@StCharlotte

(I thought Eternal Beau was M&S?)

Eternal Beau was Johnson Brothers. It was sold widely in the 80s. I think remember it was in the Argos catalogue.

As some PPs in the know may notice from my user name, I like vintage china Wink

@FadedRed

In the nineteen sixties, Boots amalgamated with another form called Timothy Whites and Taylor’s. TW&T were chemist and household products suppliers so Boots took over the household products as well as the pharmaceuticals. This went on until the mid eighties when the TW&T influence seemed to disappear from Boots shops.
It didn't disappear, I worked at Boots from 1989 to 1999 and we still used TW price tags!

I remember that crockery.

I remember that design. Long time ago!
My 'posh' dinner service is from Boots circa 1996.

@Mrsjayy

My DD is nearly 30 and was prem Boots was the only place that sold reasonably prem baby clothes and teeny tiny nappies, our Boots doesn't even sell baby clothes any more I went recently for a baby gift.
I was just thinking about the baby/ toddler clothing. My dd is 25. She had some beautiful outfits. We were recently going through old photos and she was shocked that her and her cousins sets were from Boots. She'd assumed they were designer label.

@ChainJane

Our family got its first computer from boots, one of the early ZX Spectrums. Even in the early 90s they still sold electrical items, my first Walkman-style personal cassette player was a Boots own brand thing.
I remember that - we got our school calculators from there Casio fx-39 's Grin

Also, alarm clocks.

DoesSheDoesntShe · 08/06/2021 20:43

I loved this design! 1980s.
There was a China/kitchen shop and a huge record department at the Boots in my hometown.

DoesSheDoesntShe · 08/06/2021 20:44

BTW OP, look on eBay - loads for sale!

WeAreTheHeroes · 08/06/2021 22:28

Eternal Beau was definitely sold by Argos. It was about the first China pattern that was repeated ad nauseum on all sorts of other household items - ironing board covers, bins, table cloths. It was bloody everywhere.

FrDamo · 08/06/2021 22:44

I worked for Boots back in the early 90's and like others enjoyed amazing staff discount. I bought a large quantity of this set for my aunt as a wedding present. I thought it the height of sophistication. In hindsight, how wrong I was!
