I didn’t know boots used to sell crockery. Does anyone recognise this?

I’ve recently been given quite a lot of kitchen stuff for my new house. I was given this crockery. I’m late 30’s and have never seen crockery in boots. It says boots company and made in Ireland. Anyone have any idea of how old it is? Thanks 😀

Being a pottery and porcelain enthusiast I had a look on EBay for Boots Camargue. It gives the date from 1980 onwards and not all of it was made in Ireland (photo).
However, I’m still saying yours probably comes from Arklow/Noritake pottery.
Here’s the Edwardian Lady set we gave as a wedding gift. You could get all sorts of matching stationery and linens from M&S!

They must have also had a print framing service in the 1960’s as I still have the picture that was bought for my nursery in 1964 and it says Boots’ framing service on the back.

I remember the Boots Cookshop, I remember ours going and they had a massive sale, got loads of bits and pieces for uni. They did kitchen electrics for a bit longer, I got a kettle with my advantage points when I first moved somewhere, so around 2000.

LIZS · 08/06/2021 15:29

Yes to variety of electricals and vinyl records. I had mugs for uni with pink lip designs all over from there.

I have some of the Hedge Rose plates too, given to my spouse by his parents.

I immigrated here in the early '00s, so I must have just missed Boots' cookshops, I always did find it interesting that they had the Boots logo on the back when I'd never seen crockery in their shops.

MrsMoastyToasty · 08/06/2021 15:34

My cousin has everything in that range, including wallpaper borders.

I preferred Summer Chintz.

I still occasionally see items from both ranges in our local charity shops.

funnelfanjo · 08/06/2021 15:36

Had a radio cassette player from Boots I got with money for my 16th birthday. I'm pretty sure they also had a small jewellery section as I could swear some of my earrings are from them (Manchester Arndale).

Eternal Beau was ubiquitous - I think you could have furnished your entire house with Eternal Beau themed items at one point in time.

Bellringer · 08/06/2021 15:40

Cafetière and cups, still going. Also poppy teapot.

Any one know where to get 'cerise' cherry pattern crockery by Johnson? Bought in habitat years ago.

pussycatlickinglollyices · 08/06/2021 15:46

@Defiantly41

Yes I had that! It was called Carmargue and it was mid to late 80s
My mum bought a dinner set of it as a wedding gift for my cousin & his wife - we were both born '72 and I'm sure we were about 25 when he married, so more mid 90s.
DynamoKev · 08/06/2021 15:51

Sorry I know it's off topic but just remembered a school friend's parents had a boots record player - I knew it was a rebadged Phillips because it was the same as the Phillips one my parents had.

DynamoKev · 08/06/2021 15:54

Hedge Rose was made for Boots by Hornsea Pottery in East Yorks.

I think there were other lines made by Hornsea.

TeacupDrama · 08/06/2021 15:58

I got some hedge rose when I went to Uni in 1986 mugs and dishes and plates still have 3 bowls they are good quality no crazing or chips the mugs were small so gave them away ages ago

JudgeJ · 08/06/2021 16:02

@DynamoKev

I have some Hornsea pottery from Boots. I think there were some designs made for Boots exclusively. Before my time - but Boots used to have a Library and a Cafe in some stores.
At 73 even I don't recall Boots having a library but I certainly recall going to Boots to listen to, and maybe even buy, records! Apparently the Libraries started in 1899 and ran for about 65 years but I don't think our Boots had one.

Hornsea Pottery used to be very popular, I have a number of storage tubs and a biscuit barrel in the saffron range. It used to be possible to visit the pottery but I'm not sure now, last time I went it was a fairly ubiquitous outlet mall.
PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 08/06/2021 16:10

We have "the university plates" which were from BHS and various bits have gone with five separate cousins so far. It must be one of the best-travelled dinner service in the country by now. Grin

That's after our grandparents had it for years. It seems indestructible!

We bought at least two crockery sets from Boots/Timothy Whites in the late 70s to early 80s.
We still have dinner and side plates with a sort of 'greenery' rim pattern and one side plate from a set that was fairly plain but had thin pink and grey edging lines, (very 80s) . Can't see anything like them at all online.

I imagine the person who responded ‘what’s your AIBU’ within seconds of the OP is very put out that their thread policing efforts have been in vain.

Personally, I’m thoroughly enjoying this stroll down memory lane.

ChicChaos · 08/06/2021 16:20

I also have Hedge Rose stuff, I'm using a butter dish from that range today. Married in the mid to late eighties and got a few bits as gifts then, collected more as we went along.

Ooh, yes! I had a shocking pink "ghetto blaster" from there! Late 80s

@LondonJax

I used to love Timothy Whites and Boots homeware department.

That's all. I'll go now shall I?

Me too. In fact my still working absolutely fine stick blender came from there. A very early purchase with boots loyalty points if I recall. Also a plate rack that fitted my kitchen cupboards which I think was meant for shop displays but I persuaded them to sell .

On my way..... byeeeee.

My first proper grown up set of plates etc came from Habitat. Long gone, but sometimes when I am repotting plants I come across a shard or two of broken crockery used for drainage. White with an orange band.
loveliesbleeding1 · 08/06/2021 16:28

I remember playing with the dummy telephones in boots on a Saturday morning while Mum was doing her shopping in the early 80’s.Good times.

Thatoldchestnutagain · 08/06/2021 16:32

Boots was a department store once upon a time, I remember the art department up on the top floor in my local one....not originals but prints, but remember the homewear also

Try China Search online or one of the other similar companies. You can even set up an alert for when they get in stock you're interested in. I've replaced broken pieces of an M&S dinner service from them. There are even places that do cutlery matching too. We once had someone chuck out or lose a knife and fork and were able to replace them.
