I didn’t know boots used to sell crockery. Does anyone recognise this?

I’ve recently been given quite a lot of kitchen stuff for my new house. I was given this crockery. I’m late 30’s and have never seen crockery in boots. It says boots company and made in Ireland. Anyone have any idea of how old it is? Thanks 😀

I had Eternal Beau crockery for wedding gifts to my first H in 1988, it was eight sided with a pretty edging. I don't know if anyone remembers Fresh Fruit crockery either, that was pretty hideous even for the time! I still have some of the Eternal Beau but it's no longer in use, it's in the loft, though looking at eBay and Amazon it sells pretty well so maybe I should put it on!

I had a mirror from Boots in the 80's. It had a printed view/scene trompe l'oeil style on it all in that nice 80's pink.

I remember choosing it with a huge voucher a generous auntie and uncle gave to me for my birthday.

Yes, I worked in Boot's in the 80s and they sold all sorts of household goods.

That blackberry pattern is called 'Carmargue and there is a whole servcie of it, teapot and everything.

I have a few bits of it left, mainly used as saucers for plant pots Smile

@LiveintheNow

I had a Camargue duvet set and curtains. I feel like I just found myself in a museum.
Oh! I forgot about the matching soft furnishings!!

And Eternal Beau - OMG! I remember that being a sign of poshness, so delicate and eight sided Grin

I bought my first cookery book in Boots when I was pregnant with my dd, she's 32 next month and we still use the christmas cake recipe, after she's converted the measurements as I can't see the numbers on my old scales.

Flibbitygibbit · 08/06/2021 14:38

I had this too !

When we got married in 1999, we had coffee mugs and demitasses from Boots as wedding gifts - white with two silver lines round the top. Called Platinum, I think, and a clear knock-off of the Royal Doulton Thomas Platinum that was all the rage at the time and that we couldn't afford Grin.

We still use the mugs, but the tiny coffee cups got bounced by various DC.

I used to buy crockery in Boots. It was the best. My iron I use today is from there. Must be 20 odd years old. Glasses only have a few left as they didn’t last so well.

Boots used to have a beer making and wine making dept too. Such a shame when they stopped selling it all. It was really good.

haba · 08/06/2021 14:43

I worked in boots when at university, and the cookshop sold almost everything you could need.

I liked refilling baby foods best- lots and lots of tiny jars that were easy to grab from the stockroom and stacked beautifully Grin

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 08/06/2021 14:44

I've got some wine and sherry glasses in a set from Boots.

BathshebaKnickerStickers · 08/06/2021 14:44

I had the most beautiful China mug with a rainbow on it. My mum used to secretly use it when I was at school. Secretly until she broke it...!

ChainJane · 08/06/2021 14:45

Our family got its first computer from boots, one of the early ZX Spectrums. Even in the early 90s they still sold electrical items, my first Walkman-style personal cassette player was a Boots own brand thing.

NotMeNoNo · 08/06/2021 14:49

I knew it would that pattern. Dates from late 1980s, I had some of it at uni, including the toaster.

Boots was such a useful place before Tesco took us all over.

Eve · 08/06/2021 14:53

Flibbitygibbit - got some of those as well

Mrsjayy · 08/06/2021 14:54

I remember the home brew kits my aunt and uncle used to do.their own and family parties were interesting apparently it was like moonshine 😄

Mrsjayy · 08/06/2021 14:58

My DD is nearly 30 and was prem Boots was the only place that sold reasonably prem baby clothes and teeny tiny nappies, our Boots doesn't even sell baby clothes any more I went recently for a baby gift.

JudgeRindersMinder · 08/06/2021 15:01

I have a couple of saucepans still in daily use from Boots in the early 90s

TeenMinusTests · 08/06/2021 15:01

When we got married 20+ years ago, DH and I packed up my Hedgerose stuff and started using his (very boring) cream + brown-speckled plates. Unfortunately we still haven't broken enough of them to get my old plates & bowls out. We do however use the lasagna dish & pyrex ones too.

TeenMinusTests · 08/06/2021 15:03

I also have some lovely Boots wine glasses with twisted stems. They are about half the size (or less) of modern wine glasses - from the days when 1 bottle = at least 6 glasses, not this 3 glasses extravagances.

jillandhersprite · 08/06/2021 15:05

We had the Hedge Rose plates as well!!!
When I left home at 18 I bought myself a good chopping knife and a good bread knife from Boots to go to university - they are still going strong (and I turn 45 this year!)

alltoomuchrightnow · 08/06/2021 15:08

yes they had cookshop and they did music until at least the late 90s when I was working there
When I was there they sold boring everyday crap like kitchen roll..

Tomnooktoldmeto · 08/06/2021 15:11

I remember Camargue and Eternal beau from 86/87 when I was getting ready to leave home, I also got all my sabatier knives from boots with my club card points, happy memories

plinkplinkfizzer · 08/06/2021 15:13

I remember looking at spectrum computers , Hi - Fi , Telephones and Camera equipment in Boots in the 80's .

OliveHenry · 08/06/2021 15:14

@DynamoKev

I have some Hornsea pottery from Boots. I think there were some designs made for Boots exclusively. Before my time - but Boots used to have a Library and a Cafe in some stores.
I still have very fond memories of a jacket potato with cold curried chicken I had in the local Boots café, in the mid 1980s!
