I didn’t know boots used to sell crockery. Does anyone recognise this?

I’ve recently been given quite a lot of kitchen stuff for my new house. I was given this crockery. I’m late 30’s and have never seen crockery in boots. It says boots company and made in Ireland. Anyone have any idea of how old it is? Thanks 😀

I've still got my Boots Hedgerow stuff bought ~1989, e.g. www.ebay.ie/itm/Boots-Hedge-Rose-Dinner-Plate-10-1-4-/224105895581?hash=item342dc0969d

Merchymor · 08/06/2021 13:47

I used to work in Boots cookshop!

In the early 1990's

I remember the name camargue I think.

Councilworker · 08/06/2021 13:49

I got my first cassette player of my own from Boots when I was 10 and I remember buying tapes for my mum for Mother's Day gifts in the audio/visual section. Their cafe was my mum's preferred place for lunch in our town as they did baked potatoes and you got cutlery and a proper teapot!

Lockheart · 08/06/2021 13:49

I grew up with this (born late 80s), I think it's 1980s in date

LondonJax · 08/06/2021 13:50

I used to love Timothy Whites and Boots homeware department.

That's all. I'll go now shall I?

bridgetreilly · 08/06/2021 13:50

@TeenMinusTests Wow, that is a blast from the past. I used to have those too. ;)

MrsClatterbuck · 08/06/2021 13:52

I had a crockery set from Boots but not that one. They did have a home department but not in all stores as far as I remember. I didn't get any crockery as a wedding present. Talking eighties here. Think I had 4 place setting plus milk jug, sugar bowl and gravy boat. Oh and salt and pepper. None left now. They also did matching aprons, tea towels, napkins and oven gloves and tea cosies. I did collect a royal doulton set before I got married at my mother's behest for my "bottom drawer" which I used very rarely and I had quite a lot of it. When we moved house it all went to the charity shop. Hope someone is now getting use out of it.

That's the pattern that I had thanks.

MrsClatterbuck · 08/06/2021 13:55

Should have put my Royal Doulton Lambeth ware on Ebay. Would have made a mint. I had 8 place settings and vegetable dishes etc. Only kept the meat platter

Becles · 08/06/2021 13:55

I found this out last year when our holiday cottage crockery was from Boots. Everyone else was blasé about my need to share this amazing fact, so thank you OP for posting. @Roxiepugsowner Flowers

Mrsjayy · 08/06/2021 13:56

I had some dishes from boots as a wedding present in the 90s was pyrex (I think) . Yes Boots used to sell records and tapes but Woolies was always cheaper.

WellTidy · 08/06/2021 13:56

My plate, dish and pasta bowl came from Boots when I went to university in 1993. It was cream stoneware, and it had words written around the top eg on the pasta bowl it said "soup-pasta-fruit' or something like that. I gave them to the charity shop only a couple of years ago!

They used to do lighting too, and stationery. And cards, wrapping paper etc. All lovely quality.

I remember buying a bud vase from there for my mum for mothers day in the mid 1980s.

I don't remember this, but they clearly also did gardening stuff, as we have a 10 litre plastic watering can in our garden which has the Boots logo on the side. It was left in the garden when we bought the house ten years ao.

PussGirl · 08/06/2021 13:56

I had a whole dinner service like that OP when I was a student in the mid 80s

RaspberryCoulis · 08/06/2021 13:57

We see the "Hedge Rose" stuff quite regularly in the charity shop. Also lots of Eternal Beau which sells VERY well.

Menschenskind · 08/06/2021 13:58

I had Camargue too. Some cereal bowls, side plates and salt and pepper.
And a couple of tea towels which I still had quite recently.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 08/06/2021 14:00

That's because it's so ridiculously easy to chip the corners everybody who has it is on the lookout for replacements. Grin

Merchymor · 08/06/2021 14:00

I used to get a 22% staff discount on Boots own brand and 12.5% on other stuff.

We used to sell kettles, saucepans, crockery, music and lovely little homeware and gifts as well as home brew stuff.

Sgtmajormummy · 08/06/2021 14:03

If it’s made in Ireland it’s more than likely to be Arklow Pottery. We gave a wedding list present in 1982 that was “Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady” pattern with a similar shape.

knittingaddict · 08/06/2021 14:10

We were married mid 80's and had some on our wedding gift list. I think it was called Hedgerow.

Was it Hedge Rose then?
Marguerite2000 · 08/06/2021 14:12

@Evenstar

They had a set with poppies too, there was a whole department in bigger stores called Boots Cookshop with all sorts of kitchen stuff
Yes! I had some of the poppy set! Absolutely loved them.
3scape · 08/06/2021 14:15

One of my uni housemates had that crockery (I went in the 90s) I'm not sure if she had it new or second hand (most likely the spares from her parents but she did have a couple of sets) so I'd say mid to late 80s for this design?

ineedaholidaynow · 08/06/2021 14:16

My saucepans came from Boots, bought them when I first left home, still going strong (must have been bought in the 80s)

LIZS · 08/06/2021 14:21

I worked there mid to late 80s and they sold homeware, sports wear, jewellery and watches etc in larger branches.

LiveintheNow · 08/06/2021 14:23

I had a Camargue duvet set and curtains. I feel like I just found myself in a museum.
