To ask if your seatbelt slides up and rubs against your neck

I have huge breasts. Not sure if this is why it happens but whether I am driving or a passenger the seatbelt always slides up and rubs against my.neck..i am constantly pulling it away from my neck which I'm sure isn't safe.
Does anyone else have this problem?

It's called invisible women

LibertyGables · 06/06/2021 23:22

@Thomasina79 I didn’t find the sheepskin cover hot, and I lived in the Tropics when I had it. It has a sort of natural temperature control I think. (Or was that the air con.)

HappyintheHills · 06/06/2021 23:23

Xpost nicegerbil - I tried adjusting my seat as well - then my knees clashing with the steering wheel

QueenOfPain · 06/06/2021 23:24

Yes, mine too. Bloody annoying.

QueenOfPain · 06/06/2021 23:27

Should add that I’m 6ft and it still happens so can corroborate definitely not to do with being short. It seems more that because of my boobs the belt has no natural groove to rest in, so just slides around irritatingly.

SirSamuelVimes · 06/06/2021 23:29

Yep, and I'm 5'11" so it's not height related for me, it's boobs. I often tuck it under my arm if I'm in the passenger seat, which is pretty fucking terrible in terms of safety!

Pinkylemons · 06/06/2021 23:32

Yes! I was saying the exact thing to my husband earlier. Every single car I go in or have owned. I’ve lifted the seat, lowered the seatbelt. Nothing helps. I’m average height so it’s not that.

Flossie44 · 06/06/2021 23:32

Me too!!

I haven’t got an adjuster. BUT I put w clothes peg where the adjuster would be and it keeps the seat belt in place!! It still works in an accident but it doesn’t pull tightly across your neck!!
My friend told me about it, she’s a bloody genius!!

MyMabel · 06/06/2021 23:33

Yep, big boobs and belts are friends. Even on the lowest setting it still rides up, I am only 5ft though.

FadedRed · 06/06/2021 23:33

I have something similar to these (that I found in a Betterware or similar catalogue that used to be left on my doorstep), quite effective without compromising the safety aspect. www.amazon.co.uk/1423210-Car-Seat-Belt-Adjusters/dp/B005BP37F4/ref=asc_df_B005BP37F4/?hvlocphy=1006674&linkCode=df0&hvptwo&psc=1&psc=1&hvnetw=g&hvadid=310657832094&hvpone&hvlocint&th=1&hvpos&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl&hvqmt&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&hvtargid=pla-563588158440&hvrand=1625327034803428410

Lillyhatesjaz · 06/06/2021 23:36

Mine does that too even on the lowest setting. On a long journey I found a random fleece glove in the side pocket and put it under the edge of the seat belt and that helped a lot. I keep meaning to make a proper pad and forgetting so for now still using the glove.

Defender90 · 06/06/2021 23:42

Happens to me in his car when I'm passenger. Not when driving (seat further forward)

I spent two hours holding it today. Numb fingers.

I will absolutely check for adjustable belts in future cars. Last one had them, I didn't appreciate them enough.

Rummikub · 06/06/2021 23:45

Yes! I thought it was cos I am short. Seatbelt adjusted to Lowest setting. Seat at highest. I use a seatbelt padded cover. Just stops the rub. Halfords sell them.

Somuddled · 06/06/2021 23:48

Not all cars have adjustors. Mine newer one doesn't and it drives me mad. Going to research some of the links people have provided.

MedusasBadHairDay · 06/06/2021 23:48

Same here, have adjusted it but it makes no difference. Its annoying in the driver's seat, but worse in the passenger seat as I occasionally get travel sick, and having something touch my neck makes it worse.

PurpleMustang · 06/06/2021 23:49

Also adjusted the belt (at the point it goes i to the car frame) and have a seat padded cover from Halfords

Nat6999 · 06/06/2021 23:49

I'm sure if you looked on Amazon there should be something to stop it, I've seen something once but can't remember where. My car has a slide where the seat belt comes out of the pillar.

maddening · 06/06/2021 23:57

Yes, and I am 5'7 so not short, this is with it on its lowest setting too. Also have large breaststroke.

Frezia · 07/06/2021 00:05

Yes! So irritating! I was complaining about it to my husband the other day. He said he never had this problem. I wonder if any men have. I'm 5'11 with average size boobs so it's not a height thing.

HeyDemonsItsYaGirl · 07/06/2021 00:14

I have skin tags on my neck from the seatbelt rubbing. I'm 5'8" with big but not huge breasts.

Now I add a layer between my neck and the seatbelt - a bit of my jacket or something. It helps.

AlmostSummer21 · 07/06/2021 00:17

Yep.
Not quite 5ft
Happened when I had no boobs, average boobs & now large boobs
Happened at my lightest & at my heaviest

Current car has an adjuster -doesn't help.

Can't push my seat back any further or I can't reach the pedals

The seatbelt covers annoyed me just as much

The clips annoyed putting them in/taking them off all the time.

No answer, just solidarity!

I end up driving with one hand holding it away from my body (automatic so it's easier than with a manual) but far from ideal.

WinterRose92 · 07/06/2021 00:19

Yeah, it drives me crazy. Such an annoying feeling too.

Rummikub · 07/06/2021 00:44

There must be a simple design fix that car manufacturers can incorporate?!
Anyone have any contacts at university ergonomics Design departments..

Biffbaff · 07/06/2021 00:45

Yes I often wonder how many women are needlessly decapitated in car accidents because of this.

kittie01 · 07/06/2021 00:47

Yes happens to me all the time. I’m about 5ft2 and drive different cars with work and they’re all big van type cars. Nightmare
