Inspired by my other thread....

Places you have visited with a strange vibe http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/amiibeingunreasonable/4260839-places-you-have-visited-with-a-strange-vibe

Anything is possible

DrinkFeckArseBrick · 06/06/2021 20:10

Yes but only from the point of view that the elements that make up our bodies would have been in other things before us

romany4 · 06/06/2021 20:10

No.
Can't see the point.

PatriciaBateman · 06/06/2021 20:20

My favourite theory is that all lives are our life. Past, present/parallel, and future.

So in another life, I was my grandmother, in another my brother, my husband, in another my child (latter 3 all currently living), in another someone on the other side of the world. I am you and you are me, and "we" are every single life - just in different "runs" of the game from a place where time isn't linear.

This story - The Egg by Andy Weir is the closest I've found in print to my adopted "belief".

PatriciaBateman · 06/06/2021 20:24

^^
Just to add that I find my above posted theory more terrifying than comforting! There are many lives I would never wish to live. But then in a place where time isn't linear - you wouldn't ever have to come back if you didn't want to. It all already exists.

"As you do unto others" and "karma is a bitch" take on entirely more frightening/literal aspects in that kind of playing field. I'd be more interested in escaping!

TrickorTreacle · 06/06/2021 20:35

@hennybeans

Yes, but not in karma as such or that we can be animals.

A person's body/ spirit/ soul is energy and we know in science that energy never disappears, just transfers or moves around.

That's once of the reassuring posts I've read online.

I'm sometimes anxious on what happens to your very being after your body has given up the ghost (no pun intended!) I hate the idea that you just disappear into oblivion, into nothingness. That would be pretty damn boring to live out the rest of eternity as solitary confinement. What you said makes sense, in that energy can't be destroyed. It moves around. It recycles itself. Then you re-manifest into another newborn child maybe?

CircusMistress · 06/06/2021 20:57

Always believed it's possible and would love the opportunity to do a regression. I had an experience once of finding a small town very familiar though I'd definitely never been there. It makes you think. Similarly soul mates, relationships that seem familiar. I always felt my first husband and I wouldn't last but at the same time I felt I needed to let it play out. Unfinished business maybe? The stories of children that remember fascinate me.

GreatOak · 06/06/2021 21:06

No.

Once discussed this with a (slightly dodgy) hypnotist. He did not believe in past lives either. However, he had no problem hypnotising [willing] people into “remembering” a past life as Cleopatra or some such, for a fee of course.

DramaAlpaca · 06/06/2021 21:06

No

ImbarbaraB · 06/06/2021 21:08

Yes

I think I might have done a stint as a queen

ImbarbaraB · 06/06/2021 21:10

I’m quite sure my son has been on this earth before too

He’s not quite 4 and says and does things that just astound me

Some people describe children like it as being an old soul

I also felt like I knew immediately on meeting my DH that we knew each other and that we would be married

RevolvingPivot · 06/06/2021 21:12

Do you think there are hundreds of millions of souls flying around? Do you think family stay close to loved ones?

My dd has been crying constantly for about 5 weeks now wondering whether she will see family members that have passed. Poor thing had lost 7 in her 10 years.

I've heard people say that about their kids.

Iknowtheanswer · 06/06/2021 21:15

I've known a couple of children who talked about when they were here before. This was when they'd just started to talk properly, and they gave quite specific details (names, addresses, events) that 2-3 year olds simply wouldn't know.

The other thing that I find weird is that the two men I have felt the strongest physical connection to in my life (as in, sure we have had amazing sex before, even though I have only just met you) were born on exactly the same day.

I met them 25 years apart, and didn't realise that the second one was born on the same day until recently.

I wonder whether I'd been with them in a previous life Grin

Totallydefeated · 06/06/2021 21:21

Yes, and I know about some of them.

merrymelody · 06/06/2021 21:22

Yes, I think it's likely.

Pinkbrush · 06/06/2021 21:27

@Duchess379

Yes. I was clearly a horrid tyrant in my last life & as a result I'm being punished in this one.
LOL. Brilliant. Me too i think Hmm
HoldingTheDoor · 06/06/2021 21:29

No. it's utter nonsense.

seashells11 · 06/06/2021 21:31

Yes of course.

fantasmasgoria1 · 06/06/2021 21:32

Yes but I think you get to choose whether you want to return or not.

Terrazzo · 06/06/2021 21:32

I like to think so. My (very imaginative) 3 year old often talks about ‘when I was old’ ‘my other mummy and daddy’ ‘when I was in a big crash and had a hole in my head’ 😱😄

I heard something the other day, no idea if this is scientifically correct, that all our atoms have been around since the Big Bang and so we have all been around the block. Physically we will become something else when we die. So I like to think our souls recycle too. Don’t know how though of course 😄

WhoWants2Know · 06/06/2021 21:36

@Elphame

Yes - but they may not be in the past given that time is non linear.
This is the stuff that breaks my brain on a Sunday evening.
Terrazzo · 06/06/2021 21:37

Also on a related note I went down a TikTok rabbit hole and lots of different people who had NDEs said they all separately experienced a sense of absolute complete peace. I’m obviously apprehensive about the actual act of dying and found that very reassuring. Also my mum’s heart stopped the other day and she’s fine and said she was completely oblivious. So that way would be fine too but not as restful sounding.

ArabellaScott · 06/06/2021 21:40

No. We don't go anywhere, either. All.of us remains here and is recycled, endlessly.

SprayedWithDettol · 06/06/2021 21:43

Of course not. We are bound by nature. We are born, live, procreate (generally) and die. Everything else (religion etc) is the result of the fear and imagination.
Whilst this might sound harsh, it isn’t meant to be. The fact anyone of us exists is remarkable and proof of the resilience of our forefathers. I am in awe of nature, however, I don’t need woo to explain (and in my mind, diminish) it.
