To wait until Monday for a lump in my armpit?

Two days ago I got what I think is an ingrown hair in my arm pit? It isn't red and wasn't red but it felt like I had a pimple coming up. I had a few ingrown hairs in my arm pits as a teen and it feels like that (sort of)
Anyway I haven't been able to lift my arm up it it hurts so much. Yesterday it felt even worse and today even worse. I just asked my husband to have a look again and now there is a lump bigger then a grape, more the size of a date? Sticking out under my arm. It is very very very painful. I do not have a fever.

Can I leave it until Monday? I don't want it to turn into a massive painful cyst. I also don't want it to become very infected and sore. I don't have a fever. Have had some weird issues with not having a temperature and having massive infections/ having a high temp and no infection so I don't know how reliable this is to guess if the arm pit situation is serious,

Is it best to wait until Monday?

I'd go to A&E ASAP, and bring a bag just in case: can you try and get someone to take your son?

I've had a number of boils that ended similar to how you described at the start but managed to avoid surgery. Never had one spread, never had one grow quite so fast. I really think given the speed, you need to get checked out. Have tragic personal history of someone who wasn't seen quickly enough with sepsis that came about from a fairly innocuous skin cut, so basically I don't think you mess around with skin infections. Definitely given the spread, and the speed, you need to be seen urgently. Antibiotics clearly not working at all.

I'm back at hospital
I went to a&e they sent me back to the GP bit so I have been waiting to be seen for about 90 mins hopefully not too much longer

I am so sick today I am weak from not eating and so sore

My husband came home from work

I feel so tearful I really hope someone helps me
It's so hard to advocate for yourself when you feel sick, I really am struggling to ask for for example some bloods to see if I do have an infection

I'm also now very paranoid as I am always covered in bruises and I'm worrying about cancer

I haven't really googled out of fear

I said I would grit my teeth for it to be done in the office I don't mind

My Gp surgery just called, it was the paramedic. I am so so so fed up of them not being available to help ever they are the most pathetic place and don't see anyone face to face

Shame on them not asking to see me

Total losers

Go back. If you have someone you can get to watch your son then do so, if not, you'll have to take him with you. If the other lymph nodes are swelling in the other armpit, that indicates an infection running rampant and needs to be brought under control quickly.

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 09/06/2021 13:24

Honestly OP my main concern here would not be cancer but sepsis.

WrongWrhododendron · 09/06/2021 13:27

You poor bugger - no advice, but he's m willing somebody to sort you out soon x

Sakura7 · 09/06/2021 13:28

What a nightmare OP, I hope you're seen soon.

If you feel like you're being fobbed off tell them how much pain you're in and ask what the treatment plan is, because since you were last seen it has only gotten worse. You might have a much better experience this time though, just wait and see and try not to worry.

Cheeeeislifenow · 09/06/2021 13:33

This sounds harrowing op x hand hold

2bazookas · 09/06/2021 13:50

Don't wait; seek medical advice now.

HareofEasttown · 09/06/2021 13:52

I'm sorry to read this OP and hope they sort you out soon.

Cobb121 · 09/06/2021 13:56

So sorry to hear how badly you’ve been treated ☹️ I hope you get sorted today

SingingSands · 09/06/2021 14:32

I'm sorry you're having such a crap time of it all. Really hope you get seen and treated, you sound very unwell. Thanks

LemonJuiceFromConcentrate · 09/06/2021 14:56

This sounds very painful and scary, OP, and a bit like you’ve been fobbed off or bizarrely advised.

I hope you’ll get proper treatment now as a matter of urgency.

cultkid · 09/06/2021 20:26

So I was seen by a GP at the hospital who informed me he can't do bloods as I wasn't admitted to the hospital

I was crying my eyes out

Nurse told me to "get basic manners" because I didn't knock on the doctors door when I returned with a urine sample and he told me to come straight back?

He told me it wasn't that big to need surgery. So two different opinions. My other lymph node is up.

He said I won't get sepsis on the anti biotics?

I am so stressed

He called my actual GP as in the one I am registered with and they wouldn't give him an appointment for me to have blood taken. They gave him a nurse phone call appojtment on the 17th of June for me to discuss my situation?? Why won't they let a GP instruct them to get blood taken.

I have been in bits all afternoon crying, I have gotten cyclisine and that is now working so I have stopped vomiting thankfully

The pharmacy round the corner have emailed the GP to complain about my treatment

Exhausted

Thank you all xxxx

That sounds absolutely crazy, sorry you're having to deal with this. Hope you're feeling better tonight.

WilsonMilson · 09/06/2021 20:59

This sounds absolutely unacceptable, I cannot believe how you’ve been treated. If you presented at a&e, why were you put to the GP bit? I’d go back to a&e as obviously you need bloods at the very least. How’s your temperature? Are you passing urine normally? Any other lymph nodes up? Groin, neck etc?

Fluclox doesn’t usually cause vomiting, are you usually like that with penicillin? Trying to work out if that’s caused the vomiting or something else going on. It’s always the first choice abx for skin infection and reasonably benign side effect wise, but doesn’t seem to have made any impact at all. Usually it works reasonably quickly for things like cellulitis, mastitis etc.

Hot compresses on the area if you can tolerate it would be helpful.

Honestly, if you’re not seeing any improvement I would go back to a&e. I would also change GP practice as that’s just appalling.

BeforeLight · 09/06/2021 21:02

Sorry to hear, sounds like you’re getting really conflicting information and a shite service in sole respects at your GP.
Hope you’re feeling ok and the antibiotics helps reduce it quickly

PurpleSunrise · 09/06/2021 21:10

So sorry you’ve had so much difficulty, can you contact pals? Or practice manager? Sorry not sure what to suggest, hope things improve Flowers

something2say · 09/06/2021 21:17

Bless you I'm so sorry to hear how its going! I feel you need a hug and to be fixed on the sofa with a blanket and a cup of tea xxxx

Lupinhere37 · 09/06/2021 21:53

Op; can you afford to consult a private GP? Obviously not sure what private hospital you’re near but if you can afford the £150 or so then you’d probably get seen tomorrow.
Outrageous that you have to but I’m just thinking of some alternatives for you.
Your treatment has been outrageous. If you start to feel worse, go back to the hospital. Maybe even a different hospital.

GlitterBicuits · 10/06/2021 20:34

@cultkid How are things today?

cultkid · 11/06/2021 11:52

@WilsonMilson I've also been given co amoxiclav but isn't that penicillin too
I can be a bit dicky on anti biotics but this is blowing me out the water it's nearly on parr with hyperemesis

Today the sickness is better then it was
The lumps are still there one of them the second one to appear is a bit smaller, but they are still very painful. I am still exhausted and sweating.
Yesterday I wrote an email to NHS England and copied in the surgery using the email address I have from the patient consultation group. They don't allow their patients to send in emails.
I am so frustrated with them I've thrown them under the bus and told on the data breach they had with my information and I said I want nhs England to look into all of it

Can anyone make any suggestion of what doctor to see privately, we don't have private GPS in the local area I would need to travel into London. I want bloods done. I am worried about cancer, to be entirely honest

I have lost so much weight in the last week

So grateful to everyone for the ongoing support xxx

Is there an online GP you can try? I have insurance and we use Teledoc. I don't know if you can self-pay and speak to someone? Or can you register with another GP practice?

Greenelefant · 11/06/2021 12:01

PS don't panic about cancer. Weight loss could easily be due to anxiety/stress and you have been nauseous and vomiting.

But you have been treated appallingly and really need to see someone who will treat you properly.

I always wonder with things like this if you had been a man would you have been treated differently?
