To wait until Monday for a lump in my armpit?

Two days ago I got what I think is an ingrown hair in my arm pit? It isn't red and wasn't red but it felt like I had a pimple coming up. I had a few ingrown hairs in my arm pits as a teen and it feels like that (sort of)
Anyway I haven't been able to lift my arm up it it hurts so much. Yesterday it felt even worse and today even worse. I just asked my husband to have a look again and now there is a lump bigger then a grape, more the size of a date? Sticking out under my arm. It is very very very painful. I do not have a fever.

Can I leave it until Monday? I don't want it to turn into a massive painful cyst. I also don't want it to become very infected and sore. I don't have a fever. Have had some weird issues with not having a temperature and having massive infections/ having a high temp and no infection so I don't know how reliable this is to guess if the arm pit situation is serious,

Is it best to wait until Monday?

Stay on hold/keep trying 111.

It's clearly causing you pain and you're worried about it, so why are you even considering waiting?

If they drain it you will feel almost instant relief. They usually numb it then make an incision.
Stay on to 111, it's unlikely to burst on its own and you don't want it to go internal.

Been on hold for a long long time now

Stick with it. They might arrange for you to see a GP out of hours.

Raindropumbrella · 05/06/2021 20:02

Ouch ! Hope it gets sorted asap

Nitgel · 05/06/2021 20:03

Go to a and e I had similar and had to have it drained and then packed. Hopefully you wont need that but act quickly.

cultkid · 05/06/2021 20:23

I've just hung up I'm so frustrated still on hold

I'll go to the minor injuries in the morning when they open again it's about twenty mins away

There is no way I would be able to tolerate them cutting it never mind even think about squeezing it like this

They would have to inject it first to numb it and even that is going to be excruciating it is so sensitive

You sure it’s not just a swollen gland? I had one a few days ago when I had a cold and it’s gone back down. If it’s that I doubt they’ll want to squeeze it or pop it!!

IdblowJonSnow · 05/06/2021 20:39

If it's hot its infected. Could be cellulitis which can quickly turn to sepsis. I turned up to a and e with the same thing years ago. I had surgery then and there and had a GA. Looking back I'm not sure why they didn't just do a local. Apparently the amount of stuff that came out was very impressive.
Stay on hold!

Renovation2021 · 05/06/2021 20:39

Pretty sure you need flucloxacillin, plus it possibly drained. Stick with 111 and they’ll likely prescribe over the phone, but you may need to pop to put if hours gp. You could wait until the morning but if it was me (and it has been), if sort tonight x

Good luck, I know how painful they can be!

Feelingbad2 · 05/06/2021 20:43

I’d get it sorted tonight, wouldn’t want to risk sepsis

Hyacinth88 · 05/06/2021 20:46

Have you had you're covid vaccine recently?
It sounds like what I had after my 2nd one. It wa San enlarged lymph node v v sore. Went away after a week

Sakura7 · 05/06/2021 21:12

If you're getting nowhere with 111 just go to A&E tonight.

I had something similar in the crook of my arm, it was an insect bite that got infected. I was terrified of getting it drained but honestly it was fine. They'll give you something to numb it.

Emmelina · 05/06/2021 21:50

It sounds like an abscess, I’ve had a couple underarm. They’ll gently break it with a scalpel and get the gunk out. It doesn’t hurt doing this - it’s actually a blessed relief! They’ll pack it, dress it, and give antibiotics to get the infection out of your system. Please get seen ASAP, you can get unwell very quickly with this type of thing.

cultkid · 06/06/2021 09:13

After over 40 mins on hold I hung up

Going to the urgent care centre this morning

I did have a second Covid jab, about 12 weeks ago, I wonder if it is that?

I came on to say that I used to get these in my teens and early twenties quite a bit. I needed antibiotics and one of them needed drained. Like others have said once it's drained it is so much better. The thought of it is awful, i know how much they hurt but its numbed and it's worth it.
Good luck for later

AutumnBrooke · 06/06/2021 09:54

Hope it goes well OP

Dancer12345 · 06/06/2021 10:01

Any update OP? How are you feeling?

Emmelina · 06/06/2021 10:16

Most of the flinchy pain is caused by the pressure under the skin, so don’t worry about it lingering once that’s relieved! Hope it goes well this morning.

cultkid · 06/06/2021 11:14

I am at the clinic waiting to show someone, thank you all for the nudge to go the right place xx

Zippy1510 · 06/06/2021 11:16

I had something similar which involved it being drained- but this wall all done under general anaesthetic! They tried antibiotics first but they didn’t work.

cultkid · 06/06/2021 11:54

Been seen, it is a cyst or my lymph node
I have some anti biotics for a week in case it is a cyst, if they don’t make a difference within a few days back to doctor as well need the lump scanned, thank you all for the support
They said it looks really nasty

OP posts:
cultkid · 07/06/2021 18:39

Lump is even bigger and now I am sick from the anti biotics I cannot stop throwing up

Chipsahoy · 07/06/2021 18:46
