Ever suspect a MN post has been about you?

Have you ever read a post on MN and wondered if the OP was talking about you (or someone close to you), like.., actually you? If so, did you say anything to them? Or.. do you suspect someone might have written a post about you in the recent or deep past, but you can't find it (can't be arsed to search years back)?

An ex friend posted about me on FB (she didn't use my name). She posted in a group, which she probably didn't realise I was also in, about why we fell out and people were generally on my side, not hers. She deleted the thread afterwards. I wish I had screen shotted it just to prove I was in the right!

@OVienna yeah this was all a few years ago now. Annoyingly I didn't find it out about it all until things had settled or we could have addressed it at the time. It was easier to let things lie since she stopped herself though. We both now keep things verrrrrry private!

Not on MN though I did Google an issue that was going on with a horrid woman locally to find her disingenuous version of her history on NM and being all sad none of the mum's wanted to invite her kids round any more, I was one of those mum's yeay! I never gosspied about her, so I'm guilt free. Couldn't have happened to a more deserving two faced cow!

No, but my sister’s old best mate wrote a book set in their teenaged years and named the bitch after my sister 🙈 (who is lovely) and it wasn’t a work of fiction because loads of the events in the book actually happened in real life - albeit it wasn’t my sister who had been the the bitch in real life...#rude

Never to me. But I remember a thread about a pushchair. Someone posted on a zombie thread, reviewing a pushchair that the OP was asking about.
Turned out to be the same person, reviewing their own purchase, years later.

Someone has recognised me because I posted about a funny incident at work on a "crazy things that happened at work" thread.

She stopped me in the street to tell me (I was in mattering leave). Which was odd. She doesn't have kids which was why I think she thought I looked surprised. It wasn't. It was the stopping me in the street bit. She then told me it wasn't she that had but it was one of our colleagues who was on maternity leave and that I barely knew that had told her.

If that makes sense

Or maybe I should try, so there's a woman, let's call her G and another woman, let's call her F and...

I name changed anyway.

Though I tell everyone stuff I heard on Mumsnet that's made me laugh so if someone was determined to find out my opinion on the best comfort food/sandals for summer they'll know where to look.

I'd love a thread about me but I'm way too dull. Unless it was a my neighbour is too quiet. She must be up to something...

I was in maternity leave. My phone my bloody phone.

ThursdayLastWeek · 06/06/2021 19:19

Yes!
I did a bit of advance searching and the info of the poster all fit into who I thought it was.

Fortunately for me I was deemed not unreasonable by most, until the thread went a bit batshit and was deleted!

Even better it was about my wedding too Grin

ON

TBF anyone that gets text messages from me will recognise me instantly because of the random phone nonsense and my laziness about checking before pressing send.

antsy · 06/06/2021 20:23

Yes, a working one by a colleague. At first, the details were vague, but then OP drip-fed more information and I realised it was about me. First few pages everyone agreed she was BU.
But as the thread went on some people started making up scenarios and agreeing OP was NBU.

I remember that one, but I found it really helpful as I was looking for reviews for the exact same pushchair. 😁

Not here but another forum which has since been closed. Someone copied my birth announcement and said they thought it was oddly phrased. It was critical but not too bad. But it was copy and pasted so, it was not my paranoia. I’m pretty sure I know who it was, but they don’t know that I know!

I also posted about names we were thinking of for one of my kids, and had a friend send me the link and ask if it was me. I said it wasn’t, but it WAS. Confused I’m clearly a bad detail oversharer.
