Chairs given away have caused damage, who should pay?

Last year I was given a dining table and due to lockdown I brought the cheapest chairs online to make the table usable. I used them all year for homeschooling, meals etc they have been well used. Metal legs are a bit rocky etc so I went shopping now we can and brought replacements.
Chatting to a friend I mentioned mutual friend was helping me take a load to the skip. Friend asked what I was taking and I said the chairs. Friend asked for the chairs. I explained they were a bit grubby and rocky and were the ones I got last year cheap online so didn't think they were worth the trip to hers for her to then need to skip them soon. She said she still wanted them, so I dropped them off to her about 3 weeks ago.

This morning she messages me to say the chairs have cut circles in the lino. I apologised and said that I was sorry I should have just skipped them when I planned to. She has come back saying I should have known and shes not happy. I called her and explained that on my tiled floor it wasn't something I noticed. Shes replied it was the tiles that have caused the plastic ends to push into the leg exposing the metal leg and caused the problem. Just as I said my goodbyes she said "well you'll need to replace the lino before I move out else you'll need to give me the money I loose on my deposit" and hung up. I've text to say she asked for the chairs knowing they were in a poor condition so I can't give her anything to replace the lino. Shes now blocked me.

So who should pay?

No good deed goes unpunished

EveningOverRooftops · 03/06/2021 12:49

Not your problem.

She took something for FREE despite you warning you were tipping them and they were a bit Rocky. She could’ve looked at the legs herself, bought replacement end caps (available on amazing for a few quid, I have to replace the ones on my chairs often for the same reason) and she should’ve noticed a damaged floor sooner if she was cleaning more regularly.

Again not your problem.

TinkerPony · 03/06/2021 12:50

Haha 🤣 nope

BountyIsUnderrated · 03/06/2021 12:52

DomPom47 · 03/06/2021 12:56

She would have blocked you had you not given her the chairs 😂 Cut your loses with this “friend”.

bringincrazyback · 03/06/2021 12:57

vera99 · 03/06/2021 12:59

TOTALLY UTTERLY INSANE.....

PinkiOcelot · 03/06/2021 13:04

Is she drunk?!
She practically begged you for them. You actually delivered them to her!! She’s barmy!!

Billybagpuss · 03/06/2021 13:06

Well it’s given us all a chuckle, cf doesn’t deserve a penny.

Closetbeanmuncher · 03/06/2021 13:07

Shes replied it was the tiles that have caused the plastic ends to push into the leg exposing the metal leg

More likely the weight of her fat arse and brass neck did that.

Imnothereforthedrama · 03/06/2021 13:10

Well she’s blocked you so job done . She’s just trying her luck no of course you don’t need to pay and you shouldn’t of apologised .

user1471466920 · 03/06/2021 13:13

Are people really that cheeky and entitled?! Good riddance, be glad she’s blocked you, saves you a job.

TheKeatingFive · 03/06/2021 13:17

Is there a CF hall of fame on here?

Because this deserves a place.

me4real · 03/06/2021 13:18

She should pay, not you. You weren't to know they'd do that and she chose to have the chairs. I imagine it's just normal indentations chairs can cause to lino rather than because there's anything wrong with them. Maybe there's some other scuff on the lino she's caused and that's whyy she wants to replace it so it doesn't effect her deposit, but she obviously would prefer not having to pay for it herself.

20viona · 03/06/2021 13:19

She's a cheeky fuck don't even think of paying!

BillyTodd · 03/06/2021 13:21

She's a chancer isnt she!

Mrgrinch · 03/06/2021 13:27

I have no words for this

Couchbettato · 03/06/2021 13:28

What would she have done if she bought chairs from a shop and they did that to her floor? She obviously wouldn't barge in and demand they pay for a floor. They'd probably point her to the foam floor protectors and laugh at her.

What a chancey fuckwit.

JollyHolly30 · 03/06/2021 13:32

Well done for standing up to this cheeky 'friend'!

userxx · 03/06/2021 13:34
