AIBU to hate this trend on Adult clothing?

There seems to be huge amounts of Disney logos, Disney characters and other cartoon characters and images on adult clothes. It makes me so cross. I do not want to dress like a child. Am I the only one who this annoys ?

"I had never heard of this, just googled and i’ve fallen down a hole, noooooooooo! I want it all! Is it the gorgeous red backpack youve bought? I’m having a backpack moment!"

Hopefully you can see the attachment! I regret nothing.

I like Disney. I wouldn't buy clothes with Disney characters but thing like pajamas I don't mind.

littlepattilou · 02/06/2021 22:31

LOL what a daft thread! @Professionallytorn as has been said, no-one is forcing YOU to wear them. You sound weirdly hung up about something that affects you in NO WAY WHATSOEVER!

Gameofbones · 02/06/2021 22:32

Off thread. Can the pp link to the aristocats hoodie? Grin

steff13 · 02/06/2021 22:32

I would really love to buy an adult-sized Elsa dress and have the nerve to go to the pub in it, it’s my dream!

Halloween?

AnxiousAlpaca · 02/06/2021 22:33

@FlyNow

I don't wear that type of thing but it doesn't bother me, there are thousands of other clothes to choose from.

I've recently seen Bluey themed clothes for adults. Bluey is a cartoon for toddlers! At least Disney is aimed at children and to some extent "the whole family".

@FlyNow OK I need to know ASAP where you saw said Bluey clothes and whether or not they featured Bandit. And for the record, I have no children Grin
carlycornwall · 02/06/2021 22:45

This has literally never happened to me and I buy loads of clothes. Confused

Thewinterofdiscontent · 02/06/2021 22:46

Op said she hated the trend, not she was forced to buy it.

So justify the moronic Disneyfication of decent fairy tales and the anthropomorphism in their purile rehashing’s, or not bother commenting.

Bayleaf25 · 02/06/2021 22:50

I’ve literally never noticed? 🤷‍♀️ Wouldn’t wear Disney stuff but each to their own.

ShoutOutToo · 02/06/2021 22:51

At work I wear scrubs, often a couple of sets a shift. They don't define me or make me more grown up..

After work I have a particular style, have had since med school. Yesterday it included Stranger Things, today Harry Potter, if you knew what you were looking at and tomorrow maybe HP again or maybe Dr Who. Doesn't make me childish, it makes me me.

Judge all you want, I'm confident in my style and says more about the person doing the judging

😂 That is the most MN comment I've read in a long time
bellie710 · 02/06/2021 22:53

I find the same with children's clothes, everything has unicorns, mermaids or Disney on it. I would love to know if they consult kids when they are designing as my 10-16 yr olds wont wear any of it.

Serin · 02/06/2021 22:59

I've just bought a pink "peanuts" sweatshirt.
It's not really me and I don't know what came over me, must be getting sift in my old age. I usually wear band T shirts. In black.

Lighttunnelahead · 02/06/2021 23:32

I have managed to avoid this - feeling very talented and chilled about what other adults choose to wear/buy too.😂

altiara · 02/06/2021 23:34

I love my Harry Potter pyjamas and I bought a cheap HP jumper that has never been worn outside. Just makes me smile when I work from home.
I like the sound of the aristocrats hoodie. That would make me smile too as it was my favourite as a child.

HeadFullofRandom · 02/06/2021 23:34

Ooh just remembered Irregular Choice shoes!

If I had the money I would buy lots of those beautiful, sparkly, garish and weird shoes - which is really weird for me because I normally dress very conservatively, wear boots every day and don't like or wear high heels in general.

There's just something about some of those shoes that make me want to own them.

altiara · 02/06/2021 23:35

I found I had to actively search for my HP pj’s, definitely wasn’t everywhere.

Staffy1 · 02/06/2021 23:38

I would agree with you, but it would be a bit hypocritical as I sit here in my Peppa pig pyjamas. (Well, I don't leave the house in them, they were cheap and cool enough for summer, and my son liked Peppa when I bought them - that's my excuse).

Thewinterofdiscontent · 02/06/2021 23:38

TheMNChicken

Ah the subtext. The one that says grown women in Disney clothes are a bit sad.
Followed up by the MN counter argument “ there’s no law against it or “why does it bother you so much”.

Dustyboots · 03/06/2021 00:06

It's very weird, I agree OP.

I went shopping with my daughter at the weekend - she was loving all the adult clothing. I couldn't imagine any adults ever wearing any of it though ...

phoenixrosehere · 03/06/2021 00:06

Same. I don’t get why it’s childish. It’s just clothes with a character on them. What is there to really get annoyed about? Life would be boring if everyone dressed the same and “adult-like” whatever that means.. I rarely see anyone in such clothes but tbh I’m not looking or bothered by it enough to notice.

claretblue79 · 03/06/2021 00:11

live and let live. Surely life's too short to get het up about things like this.

SpilltheTea · 03/06/2021 00:13

I'd rather have Mickey Mouse on my arse than anything floral and I don't even watch Disney.

Mypathtriedtokillme · 03/06/2021 00:32

I’m so bored of Beige, sandy brown, dusty brown/charcoal, greyish beige, the weird blah dull muted rose that looks like it’s been washed a 1000 times and camel so I welcome bright colours are “childish”.
At least they don’t make people look like 1000 shades of dead flesh.

groovergirl · 03/06/2021 01:23

Ooh just remembered Irregular Choice shoes!

Thanks for this tip, @HeadFullofRandom. I've just looked them up and found they have a new shop here in Melbourne! Which I will be visiting as soon as lockdown lifts! The shoes look so beautiful, and frankly, life is too short to wear anything (non-work-related) that we find drab, dreary and dispiriting.

So to all of you who want to wear sparkly shoes, Disney T-shirts or full Elsa regalia to the pub, please do it and make the world a more humorous place. If we can't wear funny clothes while we're alive, when can we?
