In bed, waiting for results of a covid test and feel horrid.
I want to watch a film (I have Netflix) Smile I want something from the 70s as it’s my favourite decade.
Sadly I wasn’t able to experience it (I’m 38) Grin
Could I get some film recommendations? I never watch films it’s mostly tv shows. Never seen any of the classics either. Smile

Rocky
Midnight Cowboy
The Way We Were
One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest
The Wicker Man
Saturday Night Fever (a lot tougher than you think)
Taxi Driver
The Exorcist
The Godfather

It was a great decade for film.

Palavah · 02/06/2021 12:58

Have you tried the Best Picture winners from 1970-1979?

queenMab99 · 02/06/2021 13:00

Don't Look Now
Midnight Cowboy

Wotsitsarecheesy · 02/06/2021 13:03

Do you like 'disaster' films? How about Jaws? Also it's certainly not a 'best film of the 70s' but I really enjoyed The Poseidon Adventure. Years since I have seen it though!

Others that jump out at me are Close Encounters of the Third Kind, All the President's Men, and Star Wars! Don't think Star Wars will give you that 70s vibe, though...!

I want something that can really grip me in Smile

Best 70s film by far is Vanishing Point, easily one of the best films of all time.

Other classics are Taxi Driver, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Scum (both the BBC version and the film version and The Wicker Man^ - a few genres for you there.

x2boys · 02/06/2021 13:22

Play Misty for me is a cracking film and a thriller .

Crazyhouse123 · 02/06/2021 13:22

If you have access Sky Arts ran an excellent series called The Movies, going through each decade describing how film developed and suggesting some excellent films (though be warned often the ending is shown or discussed). I believe it's still available On Demand.

The series was produced by Tom Hanks and he also produced a series on the 70's (and the 80's 90's and 2000's I've watched all of them they are brilliant though from a US point of view still relevant to our history). All definitely worth a watch.

Equally some excellent films mentioned!

Assault on Precinct 13 - fantastic tension. A cracking story.
yeah!!!
KaptainKaveman · 02/06/2021 13:39

there was a remake recently but it wasn't half so good. John Carpenter also wrote his own music for this, and Hallowe'en!

CounsellorTroi · 02/06/2021 13:46

The Goodbye Girl. My favourite rom com. The main protagonists (Marsha Mason/Richard Dreyfus) aren't drop dead gorgeous, she does not live in an unfeasibly large and sunny New York loft apartment, but in a quite poky flat. I just find it believable!

Figmentofmyimagination · 02/06/2021 13:49

Love Story - the original cancer weepy. Great film.

Figmentofmyimagination · 02/06/2021 13:50

Life of Brian. Is that 70s or early 80s? Anyway it’s v funny still.

Figmentofmyimagination · 02/06/2021 13:52

Also Born Free. I loved this film. Bought the dvd to show DC and the cut glass accents are a bit off putting but it’s still a wonderful film.

Orpheline · 02/06/2021 13:56

The Boys from Brazil
The Stepford Wives
The Great Gatsby
