In bed, waiting for results of a covid test and feel horrid.
I want to watch a film (I have Netflix) Smile I want something from the 70s as it’s my favourite decade.
Sadly I wasn’t able to experience it (I’m 38) Grin
Could I get some film recommendations? I never watch films it’s mostly tv shows. Never seen any of the classics either. Smile

That'll Be The Day
and the sequel, Stardust.
Both starting David Essex, Oliver Reed and Ringo Starr following the take of a teenage years day from working on the fairground to rock superstar and his eventual fall.

If

My a’level teacher showed us this film. It’s worth watching.

Ghostontoast1 · 04/06/2021 20:11

Yep, “If” is good - saw it on the telly years ago

For a bit of light relief how about “Shampoo”

Anystarinthesky · 04/06/2021 20:21

Silent Movie

MrsTidyHouse · 04/06/2021 20:31

MyCatEatsPrawnCrackers · 04/06/2021 20:49

Carry on camping

Arbadacarba · 04/06/2021 20:52

@MyCatEatsPrawnCrackers

Carry on camping
That's a 60s film (just) - 1969.

Carry on Abroad is the best 70s Carry On in my opinion.

Plumstrum · 04/06/2021 21:54

The beguiled
The graduate
Scepticism

SappysCurry · 04/06/2021 22:06

@LunaNorth
Your list is excellent
I would add Serpico , deer Hunter and Dog Day afternoon

dancealittleclosertome · 04/06/2021 22:11

Dog Day Afternoon is such a sad film I felt - Al Pacino's character trying so hard to keep everyone happy - his wife, his boyfriend - and getting himself into such a mess because of it.

SappysCurry · 04/06/2021 22:14

@Scout2016

Dog Day Afternoon is one of my favourite films, glad it's had a few mentions. I looked up co star John Cazale a while back wondering why I hadn't seen him in much else given how good he was. Turns out he was only in a few films, all classics, filmed The Deer Hunter while terminally ill and died before it was finished.

I'll recommend Badlands. Like Dog Day Afternoon it's based on real life crime.
A bit marmite but a classic. Stylistically
great and probably quite an easy watch when you're ill. And at risk of boring with fact overload, it's an influence for Bruce Springsteen's Nebraska.

Badlands is a classic it’s about charlie starkweather and there is an excellent remake called ‘murder in the heartland’ starring Tim roth as Charlie and fairuza balk as carol, i used to have it ‘on video’ would love to watch that again
SappysCurry · 04/06/2021 22:16

@Scout2016

No one can do ‘sad eyes’ like a young Al Pacino too🥺
ilovepixie · 04/06/2021 22:46

Grease
The Cassandra crossing
Jaws
Picnic at hanging rock
Love story

Nannyamc · 04/06/2021 23:28

LunaNorth · 05/06/2021 05:46

The Jerk

Lincslady53 · 05/06/2021 06:16

My brothers went to the local all boys grammar school in the 60s and 70s and always said that If was a good representation of their school. That and Tomkinson's School days from the Ripping Yarns tv series.

Scout2016 · 05/06/2021 19:55

@SappysCurry thank you I'll have a watch. I do like Tim Roth.

LunaNorth · 05/06/2021 21:53

I’ve just watched Dog Day Afternoon off the back of this thread. Great film, but if it wasn’t a true story it’d be totally unbelievable Shock
