In bed, waiting for results of a covid test and feel horrid.
I want to watch a film (I have Netflix) Smile I want something from the 70s as it’s my favourite decade.
Sadly I wasn’t able to experience it (I’m 38) Grin
Could I get some film recommendations? I never watch films it’s mostly tv shows. Never seen any of the classics either. Smile

So many great films on this thread, and you must see Day of the Jackal.

ScribblingPixie · 02/06/2021 14:14

Oh, I forgot The Conversation. I absolutely love that film.

zukiecat · 02/06/2021 14:15

Jaws
The Wicker Man
The Towering Inferno
The Poseidon Adventure

Christine (1983, but set in 1978/9)

Something lighter

The Black Stallion
The Jazz Singer

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 02/06/2021 14:15

The Godfather
The Godfather Part 2
Best films ever made, IMHO

The French Connection
Dog Day Afternoon
Get Carter
The Taking of Pelham 123 (don't get caught out by the more recent version - the 1974 one is better)
The Sting
(Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid is 1969, but you might feel able to stretch a point.)

Dirty Harry
Play Misty for Me
The Outlaw Josey Wales
(it was a busy decade for Clint Eastwood - those are arguably his three best films of the 70s)

Chinatown
Taxi Driver
The Shining (1980, but I expect it was filmed in the 70s)
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

Sunday Bloody Sunday - I love this film, but it seems to have been mostly forgotten. Glenda Jackson, Peter Finch, Murray Head.

So do I!

East Is East

Made in the 90's I think, but set in 70's Manchester.

Great film, very funny, but very poignant too.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 02/06/2021 14:19

Totally forgot about Star Wars, but that's probably not quite what you had in mind! If you were in the mood, though, there's Close Encounters of the Third Kind and Superman as well.

Yes also to The Towering Inferno and Life of Brian.

Jaws.

StellaOlivetti · 02/06/2021 14:21

Day of the jackal. So beautifully French!

Thelnebriati · 02/06/2021 14:24

If Christine is allowed, I'm having The Long Good Friday.
And its not a film but Salem's Lot is still creepy.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 02/06/2021 14:33

The Go-Between.

The 1974 (I think) version of Murder on the Orient Express.

Both have fantastic music as well as stellar casts.

Smurfsarethefuture · 02/06/2021 15:25

Sergio Leones once upon a time in America was 1984? but it is set in the 20/30s so still worth watching as it is fantastic.

The American hustle is set in the 70s and I really enjoyed it - Christian bale and Amy adams?
