@ScottishNewbie

I don't know anyone who enjoys being sweaty and sticky.... Including my extremely slim family and friends.... It's a horrible feeling regardless of your size.
Given your user name thats rarely an issue surely?!
Hazelnutlatteplease · 31/05/2021 21:16

For an ordinary, not-great-looking, wants-to-look-pretty, middle-aged woman, the summer is so unforgiving!

Speak for yourself! I look great in my summer wardrobe! Or at least as good in my summer wardrobe as my winter. My make up is the same in summer and winter, I might not bother with foundation if I'm tanned. I wear structured but cool cotton Jersey, or linen or cotton. I'm pushing 40.

I still bloody hate the summer heat.

Considering moving to Scotland....

BettyOBarley · 31/05/2021 21:21

I don't hate summer but it's not my favourite season... I'm overweight so don't have the confidence to dress in nice summer clothes, the added time every morning lathering unwilling kids in suncream, I burn at a mere drop of the sun's rays and have tons of moles so panic about that, the wasps .. however despite those things its amazing how a bit of sunshine instantly lifts your mood and for that reason I do enjoy it.

ScottishNewbie · 31/05/2021 21:26

@cocoloco987 I spent 3 years living in Asia and 2 in Australia. So have done my fair share of 40 degree heat Grin

Susie477 · 31/05/2021 21:29

MN is such a weird place, sometimes. Lots of people here claim to hate summer, yet I have never, ever met in real life anyone who hates warm, sunny days, light evenings, breakfast outside on the patio, beer gardens, picnics, barbecues, holidays etc etc. It’s very odd indeed.

I suffer from hay fever, but I still enjoy summer, fo4 all the above reasons.

fara20 · 31/05/2021 21:30

I have turned against summer in the last decade or so. It makes me depressed. I always get too hot, so I sweat all the time, which is really embarrassing. I can't sleep. I get headaches. About 10 degrees is an ideal temp for me.

Every. Fucking. Year.
OP and all the other haters. Summer lasts (at best) about 26 weeks out of the 52. Fucking shut up moaning. The rest of us have to cope with all the cold and damp. And do not even dates romanticise autumn ‘crisp days’ its fucking damp and depressing. Spring was li’e November this year.
You have it your way for the majority of the time. Can’t you just shut up and let everyone else enjoy without the whingeing?

And you don’t do the same when it’s cold and damp? You also didn’t have to post on this thread after you read what it was about so no need to be rude.

Meruem · 31/05/2021 21:33

I feel like I post this every year, but portable air con is your friend! I’ve had it for about 20 years now and genuinely couldn’t live without it. If you can’t afford it or find it too noisy then hot water bottle in the freezer and stick your feet on it in bed.

Have blackout/ thick curtains and close them at 7pm and put a lamp on. You don’t start producing melatonin until it gets dark. This is one of the reasons people struggle to sleep in summer. It stays light way too late. If necessary a blanket pinned up in the window will do the job. Also keeps out the excess evening heat. In city centres heat builds up all day long and reflects back from the pavements. I live in London and it just never cools down for this reason.

Cold showers are no good as your body then warms up to compensate. A lukewarm bath where you gradually add cold water works much better.

I can’t say I enjoy summer but I can bear it because of doing the above, I also avoid any major cooking. Either cold foods or something super quick like stir fry.

Calm down ffs😂

TheMNChicken · 31/05/2021 21:45

And also 26 weeks out of 52 is literally half the year so not sure what your point with that is?

Hazelnutlatteplease · 31/05/2021 21:47

I dont generally whinge to my friends, that's what mumsnet is for Wink.

You generally attract like people. If you like those things, you are more likely to spend time with people who also like those things.

Actually of your list...
I dont particularly like other people noisy and drunk so beer gardens are out...
I dont particularly like BBQs if I'm the one sorting out the BBQ and cleaning it up after. So much hassle. I dont like getting hot and smokey either....
I tend to holiday October through to may. August is too hot and too busy. Summer doesn't necessarily mean holidays.
Just for good measure I dont like beaches either. I dont like sand, or pebbles, or lack of shade. And i get bored

I'm guessing I'm not one of your real world friends 😜🙄🤣

ThatchersCold · 31/05/2021 21:48

I normally love it but struggling a bit this year. I think it’s because we went from the depths of winter last week with howling gales and hail storms to boiling hot this week. I think I need a bit more of a gradual transition.

MutteringDarkly · 31/05/2021 22:07

Right, usually I would be settling myself comfortably into this thread on Team Winter, especially after 26 degrees here today. But I've decided to try (try) this year to make the best of it. It isn't my favourite, but it's such a waste for me to write off three months of the year as a time I think I won't enjoy. One of the reasons I dislike summer is there's an anniversary of a bereavement in the middle, so it's linked to painful memories. But that can't totally dictate the future, especially for the DC who just want some fun.

So, here goes. Plenty of ice packs in the freezer to temporarily pretend it's winter if needed Grin

Vicliz24 · 31/05/2021 22:12

It's day two - day two and it's at least a month late . I truly thought we might reach the weekend. I seriously live for the warm weather and the amount of light .
