I love summer. And hot cars. I seem to have the body temperature of an icicle, though, maybe that helps.

Soubriquet · 31/05/2021 14:52

I don’t like summer either

I like it when the weather is nice enough to go out for the day, so no rain or heavy wind, but also cool enough so you aren’t sweating through all the clothing and then feeling grumpy because you’re all hot and bothered

lollipoprainbow · 31/05/2021 14:54

I much I prefer a sunny autumn day to be honest, I drove along the seafront yesterday and it was crammed and loud with people and I began to wish lockdown was still on ! I'm a double misery because I hate bank holidays too !!

Sakura7 · 31/05/2021 14:59

YABU because you get 9 months of shit weather so please let us enjoy our 3 months of on-off nice weather! Some of us NEED it.

This ^

I hate the winter. The cold, wet, miserable weather and especially the darkness. Leaving the house when it's pitch black and the same coming home is not my idea of fun.

Give me long summer evenings any day.

lollipoprainbow · 31/05/2021 15:00

This is a post for people that don't like summer ! If you do don't bother reading or commenting Hmm

Sakura7 · 31/05/2021 15:06

@lollipoprainbow No it's not! It's in AIBU with a vote option on it. People are allowed give their opinions Hmm

TheMNChicken · 31/05/2021 15:08

How does some people not liking summer mean that those who do can't enjoy it?

SquirrelFan · 31/05/2021 15:10

I think summer is just for the body confident--the young, the beautiful, the people who don't care much (and good on them!). For an ordinary, not-great-looking, wants-to-look-pretty, middle-aged woman, the summer is so unforgiving! One must bare one's veiny, cellulite-y legs, deal with damp bits of one's fringe stuck to a high sweaty forehead, reveal lumpy hips as gossamer fabrics blow against them (or wear white jeans that emphasise just how large one's lower half is). The bright sunlight highlights any wrinkles or any makeup used in an attempt to conceal them. Plus in British summers, there is always the danger that one will be cold anyway, as the sun goes behind a cloud and the breeze picks up and the strappy sundress is no protection. I long for indigo jeans that visually slim and act like a girdle, fluffy turtlenecks that frame the face with a flattering colour, cosy coats one can snuggle into, and the comfort of a warm beverage.

MaMaD1990 · 31/05/2021 15:11

I'm not the greatest fan of it, but since moving to a house with a garden, it's been lovely (in the shady spots!)

Toilenstripes · 31/05/2021 15:11

Honestly, do any of you know what actual hot weather is? It’s not 18 degrees, or even 23! I appreciate that it’s all about what you are accustomed to but a few minutes of warm sunshine is healthy and for many people it’s necessary for good mental health.

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 31/05/2021 15:12

God, I LOVE the summer! Hotter the better for me please.

Love summer food, salads and fruits, wearing fewer clothes, the sound of people having fun, warm nights - all of it.

BRING ON A HEATWAVE!

DappledThings · 31/05/2021 15:13

Good things about Summer:

  1. Clothes dry really quickly and there's less laundry anyway Bad things about Summer: Everything else. Today is the first proper hot day. I've already had enough of trying to get DC slathered in sun cream. I don't mind the odd day like this. I can do 3-4 days of 20 degrees plus as long as there's a drop in temp and some good rain for a couple of days after. The relentlessness of heatwaves makes me angry.
TheMNChicken · 31/05/2021 15:16

I don't care if you live on the surface of the sun but 18 degrees is more than hot enough for me and being out in it does nothing for my mental health, thanks.

Hallyup6 · 31/05/2021 15:29

Nope, I bloody hate winter. Give me heat and stickiness any day over dark nights and being freezing cold. We've had months of horrible weather and at the first sight of a bit of sun, someone complains about it. Typical.

Babyroobs · 31/05/2021 15:30

Me too. I always think it's because I'm very overweight but then I know overweight people who love the hot weather.
I feel like I have no energy, everything is an effort. I worry about my dogs if they have to be left in the house. Mosquitos seem to love me and I have poorly healing skin.

LondonJax · 31/05/2021 15:40

I prefer spring and autumn and a crisp (rather than wet) winter to summer any day.

I have to slather on sun cream as I burn very easily (I've managed to get sun burn in March before now in the UK...). I hate the sticky feeling of sun cream as it warms up on the skin. Urgh!

I also have rosacea which is made worse by the sun so if I know I can't get shade I have to remember a hat (which then makes my head hot).

But, if I'm able to plan ahead it's OK.

If we're travelling any distance in the car I stick clean, wet flannels in a plastic bag and pop them in the freezer. Lovely to take away that heat blast in the car or if you get stuck in traffic and the air con's doing over time.

I put water bottles in the freezer early in the morning if we're heading out. Just a few hours will turn the water to icy slush then straight into a little cool bag - keeps the water icy for longer.

I've been known to take my famous icy flannel on the bus or train as my feet feel like they expand to the size of the BFG's feet and the flannel is really great to cool them down fast.

I also try to make sure places we visit in July/August have shade. Luckily DH and DS aren't beach people - both of them are happy to sit on a beach for an hour or so but get bored really easily. So persuading them to do a country walk in woods then go to the beach late afternoon has never been a problem.

But yes, if I could keep the temperature at 23 or 24 maximum with clear skies I'd be happier.

Sakura7 · 31/05/2021 15:48

Yep. Honestly anyone who lives in the UK or Ireland and doesn't like the heat has little to complain about, they get their way 90% of the time.

suspiria777 · 31/05/2021 15:51

It's the second warm day of the year... Maybe you should see this as an opportunity to improve your distress tolerance and emotion regulation.

Most people i know don't have a problem with being sweaty and sticky all the time if the temperature goes above 20... Perhaps you could make some lifestyle changes that would make you feel more physically comfortable in moderate heat...

TheMNChicken · 31/05/2021 16:00

Surprised it took till page 2 for the "if you don't like the heat it's cos you're a fatty" posts to start ffs.

ScottishNewbie · 31/05/2021 16:01

I despise summer!

Sunburn.
Sweat.
Hot.
Shorts.
The expectation ill be out and about every weekend.
Saying goodbye to lovely comfort foods in favour of salad.
Wanting to nurrder my partner for breathing near me in bed because I'm roasting.

Shudder.

I could go on.

ScottishNewbie · 31/05/2021 16:03

I don't know anyone who enjoys being sweaty and sticky.... Including my extremely slim family and friends....
It's a horrible feeling regardless of your size.

LemonSherbetFancies · 31/05/2021 16:08

My daughter is the same. Always feels overheated and uncomfortable, can never sleep at night, finds it hard to work in the heat etc. She's a huge summer hater and loves cooler, even cold weather.

phoenixrosehere · 31/05/2021 16:13

Depends on where you live so...

I’m with you OP. Hot weather makes me physically ill especially when it is humid and there is little to no shade. My skin actually feels like it’s burning under the sun which surprises people since I have brown skin. My mother who is darker than me breaks out in heat rashes that she has prescription cream for so it could be much worse.

At least with the cold, I can add as many layers as possible to keep warm. Can only take off so many when it’s hot before it becomes inappropriate..

GillianAnderson · 31/05/2021 16:19

Sun's out, scum's out

Selfish ppl playing loud music in gardens
Fat ppl exposing areas of their body that nobody wants to see
Arseholes riding off road motorbikes on the road
Men with no tops on flaunting their shit tattoos

You said it, not me. What about wearing non-synthetic fibres, staying hydrated, avoiding spicy and hot (temperature) foods, not wearing loads of accessories, no blow-drying hair, choosing different bedding... Etc etc etc.
