Driving without a license with baby in car

Basically, someone I know is driving without a license. She has just bought a car and started driving lessons but doesn't want to wait for passing her test. She is 6 months pregnant and has a 1 year old in the car with her. Her mum, who also doesn't have a license, condones this and lets her daughter ferry her around as well. They say it's the norm, that everyone does this before they pass their test. Her mum found the concern funny and laughed. The way I see it is she is putting her child and unborn baby at risk. She is also putting other drivers at risk. In my opinion she is being monumentally stupid and selfish. She is never going to listen to any sense, she is a law student so knows the facts. WIBU to report it? Or is it none of my business?

I'd report it before she potentially kills someone or herself.

seensome · 30/05/2021 23:39

Report it, you could save lives

Odoreida · 30/05/2021 23:39

Is her mum always with her and is the mum a qualified driver? In that case, it's allowed, with L-plates etc, and good to practice as much as possible. If it's just her and the babies then nooooooooooooo.

Odoreida · 30/05/2021 23:40

Oh I see her mum doesn't have a license - apologies for misreading. In that case NOOoOOOOOOOO and definitely report her. She's also driving uninsured.

I said in my OP her mum does not have a license. She mostly drives her daughter around, but I was shocked to hear her mum condones it and also gets in the car sometimes.

Please report. Absolutely horrendous behaviour. Can't believe she thinks this is acceptable!

It is a licenCe with a C.
The verb is "to license". As in licensed to kill.
However, this is totally wrong and you would be doing your public duty in reporting it.

I always muddle the spelling, but clearly I have bigger concerns than how to spell a word.

She also won't be insured

RoseRedRoseBlue · 30/05/2021 23:58

You really must report this, but I think you know that already. People like this woman are dangerous, selfish and a tragedy waiting to happen.

BorisKilledMyHusband · 31/05/2021 00:00

Report. You don’t want this on your conscience if she kills someone

Driverdilemma · 31/05/2021 00:00

@HeddaGarbled

She got pregnant again quickly. Whilst studying law. And taking driving lessons. Unbelievable!
Yes she got pregnant while studying law. She only just started the driving lessons. Not sure what point you're trying to make though.

Has anyone had to report someone for something like this? Just wondering how serious the police would take my report and how they investigate it.

They will take this very seriously, plus it’s a relatively easy ‘solve’ with multiple offences being committed.

amusedbush · 31/05/2021 00:06

If she has just started lessons she may have a basic understanding of the controls but there’s no way she’s competent enough to deal with unexpected road conditions. As a pp said, she’s not insured either.

It’s a disaster waiting to happen.

amusedbush · 31/05/2021 00:09

I’m sure the police will take it very seriously and they may be able to pass it off as a random check of her reg plate so as not to dob you in. Although, to be honest, I’d lose all respect for a friend who did something so monumentally selfish and stupid, so it wouldn’t be the worst thing if they told her she’d been reported and she put two and two together.

TableFlowerss · 31/05/2021 00:12

Report her x 10 the selfish cow.

Well luckily she is not my friend. She is someone I have to tolerate sometimes because her relative is friends with my relative.

Even better! Grin

leprintemps · 31/05/2021 00:16

Please report her. She's uninsured, most likely not taxed, and could kill someone.
I get that it's hard for learners right now - my dc has had their test cancelled four times since first lockdown and when they do take it it will be over 20 months from first applying. But they don't drive on their own.
I reported a neighbour's son years ago, because his parents let him drive from the age of 14. No regrets.

alexdgr8 · 31/05/2021 00:19

why have you delayed to do so,
what reason is there for not reporting her.
it's easy. do it now.
ring 101, or crimestoppers.

Driverdilemma · 31/05/2021 00:20

I don't think it's ever right to drive without a licence, but the fact she is taking her child in the car leaves an especially bad taste in my mouth. She is picking up and dropping off at nursery every day. She thinks everyone does this kind of thing and yet she studies law... I hope she doesn't plan on practising law after graduating.

RoseRedRoseBlue · 31/05/2021 00:27

She knows full well that her view of “everyone does this kind of thing” is BS and it’s a thinly veiled justification

I only found out a couple hours ago, it is not like I have been sitting on this information for days or weeks.
