Driving without a license with baby in car

Driverdilemma · 30/05/2021 23:35

Basically, someone I know is driving without a license. She has just bought a car and started driving lessons but doesn't want to wait for passing her test. She is 6 months pregnant and has a 1 year old in the car with her. Her mum, who also doesn't have a license, condones this and lets her daughter ferry her around as well. They say it's the norm, that everyone does this before they pass their test. Her mum found the concern funny and laughed. The way I see it is she is putting her child and unborn baby at risk. She is also putting other drivers at risk. In my opinion she is being monumentally stupid and selfish. She is never going to listen to any sense, she is a law student so knows the facts. WIBU to report it? Or is it none of my business?

@Pemberleys

I would report but be aware the potential fallout would be she could not practice law if convicted.
Tough , she could kill somebody.

And she / her children / an innocent third party may never practice any career of any sort if she crashes and kills someone.

I'd not report her for something petty like smoking a spliff, but this could easily kill someone else.

Which would be a very good thing. With their attitude, they aren't fit to be in the law profession.

@Thebookswereherfriends

You could point out that if she got caught and convicted then she would find hard to use her law degree in a professional capacity as she would have a criminal record.
She doesn't think she's doing anything wrong. She needs the police or court to tell her otherwise. Surely she'll struggle to get a law degree if she's that stupid.
Cam2020 · 31/05/2021 08:06

WTF?! I've never known anyone to do this, let alone 'everyone'!

DinosaurDiana · 31/05/2021 08:07

Absolutely report her.

CandyLeBonBon · 31/05/2021 08:12

I'm surprised you have to ask tbh

Csx99 · 31/05/2021 08:13

Different situation but similar - I know a girl who doesn't even strap her one year old in. Literally videos herself singing to music whilst driving and every time he's in his car seat completely unstrapped. Absolutely no excuse for behaviour that puts your child at risk Angry

Whaaaaaaat 🤯😯🤬🤬
Janxyb · 31/05/2021 08:15

Definitely report her.
If she is that desperate to drive she should do one of those intense courses that are 3 or 5 days then a test at the end.

LadyWithLapdog · 31/05/2021 08:16

Please report.

Saltovinegar · 31/05/2021 08:26

Someone local to me was letting his son drive the family car despite knowing son had no licence and was therefore uninsured. The son had a crash and amongst the many charges brought by the poice were vehicle theft as the father denied all knowledge. The son has has just reappeared after a spell at her majesties pleasure.

KarmaStar · 31/05/2021 08:27

Report her.right now.when she kills someone and you've done nothing you will feel massive guilt.pick up the phone.if you can,give the vehicle index number.🌈

MirandaBlu · 31/05/2021 08:35

Not terribly important, but the document is spelled "license" in American English, e.g., a "driver's license". If you're online a lot, you've likely seen it spelled both ways.

Also, I'd report. (The violation of the law, not the spelling discrepancies.)

newnortherner111 · 31/05/2021 08:39

Please report. If by any chance you know of the institution where she is studying, I'd support you if you told them as well, though this should always be the second step.

@Driverdilemma

I don't think it's ever right to drive without a licence, but the fact she is taking her child in the car leaves an especially bad taste in my mouth. She is picking up and dropping off at nursery every day. She thinks everyone does this kind of thing and yet she studies law... I hope she doesn't plan on practising law after graduating.
She’s probably planning on being a defence solicitor 😝 The most important thing is that she isn’t insured. I would absolutely report her. I would also report her to social services for driving a child around when she’s not passed her test. I don’t think you need to be studying law to know that what you’re doing is wrong.
BrownEyedGirl80 · 31/05/2021 08:57

Fucking hell.Im test ready and ive had my test pushed back countless times due to covid but I'd never do that.Not that it matters but has she just had a few lessons or is she a good driver?

Lalliella · 31/05/2021 09:08

@VictoriaLudorum

It is a licenCe with a C. The verb is "to license". As in licensed to kill. However, this is totally wrong and you would be doing your public duty in reporting it.
That depends on what country you’re in. In the US both the verb and the noun are “license”. So you’re not really as clever as you think you are. And that’s not really the point of the thread is it?

OP definitely report her before something awful happens.

FeatheredHope · 31/05/2021 09:18

Anyone who thinks that’s acceptable behaviour shouldn’t be in law as a profession (and the SRA would tend to agree). I hate it when people defend reporting law breaking in this way. This isn’t a victimless crime, this is driving a machine which has the potential to kill people when you are not qualified or insured to do so. The fact that small and unborn children are also involved is just beyond.
I would report without hesitation - you can even do it online anonymously these days via 111.

Budapestdreams · 31/05/2021 09:18

Report her.
You have information that could save someone's life.

StopPokingTheRoyalTitDear · 31/05/2021 09:29

I’d absolutely be reporting her. Arrogant idiot could end up killing someone including her own family. Even if she only has a “little” crash she’s not insured without a licence so she will come unstuck there and the person she crashes with would have to claim on their own insurance because of that and she’ll definitely be reported then anyway.

Zzelda · 31/05/2021 09:39

She is very, very stupid if she thinks everyone does this and that she won't be found out. If she's that anxious to start driving herself, she should do an intensive course and take her test. I certainly wouldn't worry about her future in the legal profession if she is this thick.

PurpleMustang · 31/05/2021 09:44

Yep absolutely 100% report them both. No question. And just deny all knowledge if asked by her. More than one person will know. Someone at the nursery could have called in for all she knows.

laurenlodge · 31/05/2021 09:44

Having this on her record if she's caught or reported will stop her ever being a lawyer. Another reason she's an idiot (on top of all of the obvious reasons!)
