Or was the ice cream man?

(Lighthearted)

Got DD (6) a 99 from the ice cream van. Didn't want to leave DS (18 months) out but didn't want to get him a whole ice cream.

Asked the ice cream man if I could have a tiny bit of Mr Whippy in a cone and I would pay the full price for a 99. He refused, said it 'all went through the system' and I had to have a full 99.

Tried to reason with him but he wasn't having it, he made the ice cream extra big and insisted on sticking a flake in it.

There were no bins around so I was forced to eat 3/4 of an ice cream I didn't want just so DS could have a taste of it.

AIBU to think the ice cream man could have been a bit more accommodating?

Should've gotten a screwball. They have about half of the ice cream in them than a cone.

I find it weird he wasted all of that ice cream. Surely it's easier to put a small amount in a cone than a full amount? Literally the only explanations I can think of are - 1. as previous posters have said, he's worried about a photo of it 2. he just literally doesn't deviate from the menu as he's had enough of odd requests and once he's done it people hear about it and come back saying oh, you did it for so and so or asking for other unusual requests.

Why not? You could have just thrown away what he didn't eat. You didn't have to eat it. Big fuss over nothing.

Because a whole ice cream would have been smeared all over his face, in his hair, all over the buggy, he would have got hyperactive from all the sugar and not eaten his tea.

I had no choice but to eat it myself.

Our local icecrean man is the the best he does a small free one for the dog and he even added me on Facebook! No idea how he found me I have a private account with not my real last name bizzare but he’s a lovely old man kids love him

When we were young sometimes my brother would have money sometimes I would. We would give the one who didn't have - a taste by breaking the bottom of the cone and scooping some ice cream on it and giving it to the other one

My mum used to do this with my DSis (also six years older coincidentally) and me. I’d get a teeny cone from broken off hers. I don’t think she’s resented me ever since.

Oh god mine always share or let each other have a bit! At 6 I think they are old enough to let their younger sibling have a lick, and my kids aren’t snotty because I clean them. 🤷‍♀️
Not sure my two year old would be happy with just a lick!! I usually get a empty cone & rub some ice cream off another cone on the top. Then everyone is happy!

My own 6 year old doesn’t eat a whole icecream cone so we get her a little tub, never been a problem, they even stick the toppings on if I ask!

Thanks for the heads up op, we were in Brighton for DH's covid jab today so took a walk down - they were enormous 😂😍

So weird!

When I was at high school we used to go to the ice cream van parked up outside school, tell Mr Whippy how much money we had and he'd give us a proportionate ice cream. You needed at least 20p, which got you a tiny one, but if you had any more money you got a bigger ice cream.
