Or was the ice cream man?

(Lighthearted)

Got DD (6) a 99 from the ice cream van. Didn't want to leave DS (18 months) out but didn't want to get him a whole ice cream.

Asked the ice cream man if I could have a tiny bit of Mr Whippy in a cone and I would pay the full price for a 99. He refused, said it 'all went through the system' and I had to have a full 99.

Tried to reason with him but he wasn't having it, he made the ice cream extra big and insisted on sticking a flake in it.

There were no bins around so I was forced to eat 3/4 of an ice cream I didn't want just so DS could have a taste of it.

AIBU to think the ice cream man could have been a bit more accommodating?

@Happycat1212

If you only wanted him to have a taste then surely he could have just had a little bit of your older child’s? 😐
No offence but are you actually bloody serious?

I can just picture the look on a 6 year olds face if you take her ice cream off her and let her 18 month old brother dribble and snot all over it first OR take it off her before she is finished and give it to her brother OR break the bottom of the cone off and stick some of her ice cream on it.

Two phrases come to mind:
If looks could kill,
And.
I am never going to forgive nor forget.

Very few 6 year olds love their little brother enough to let that one go.

Ice cream man is a bit of a dick, by the way.

honeygirlz · 27/05/2021 17:36

That's crazy, he could have just put the extra in the sink/bin.

Happycat1212 · 27/05/2021 17:37

Oh god mine always share or let each other have a bit! At 6 I think they are old enough to let their younger sibling have a lick, and my kids aren’t snotty because I clean them. 🤷‍♀️

Londontown12 · 27/05/2021 17:47

That’s really mean !! My daughter couldn’t have ice creams off the van when she was a toddler she has a nut allergy so out local one used to give her a cone she loves it and no charge !!!! X

YANBU Mr Frosty Smooth is a right bastard. He made you eat it. I think you should sue for any subsequent addiction issues. Grin

malificent7 · 27/05/2021 17:54

All i want to eat now is icecream!

Vodkaandballoon · 27/05/2021 17:58

We all have to make sacrifices as parents & that includes eating half an ice cream!. Good job mum. I often take one for the team & try the ice cream, cake or a sweetie to make sure it's safe for my kids to eatWink

Chloemol · 27/05/2021 18:02

You could have got a large one and asked your DD to share it?

JurassicShay · 27/05/2021 18:05

He's a twat.
Our ice cream man does me what I call the baby cone which isn't on the price list. A cone with a small amount of ice cream & doesn't charge me if I spend over £10 or 50p if i do.

SapphosRock · 27/05/2021 18:05

The things we do for love eh Vodkaandballoon Wink

Emmelina · 27/05/2021 18:09

You’ll need to ask if he does a “doggy cone”. All three of the vans we have around here do a cone with just a bit of ice cream on it for pets if you ask. I think they’re only about 50p.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 27/05/2021 18:09

I want a lemon top now. See what you’ve done now mr ice cream man.

Onceuponatime1818 · 27/05/2021 18:09

The same thing happened to me this avo!! But, I didn’t contest it as I’m passive and was charged £3 for the teeny tiny one!!!!

SapphosRock · 27/05/2021 18:10

@Chloemol

You could have got a large one and asked your DD to share it?
Possibly if I'd pre-warned DD they were sharing but as SilverGoblin pointed out, taking an ice cream away from a 6 year old who believed it was exclusively for her to allow her snotty, dribbly little brother to lick it would not have ended well.

Couldn’t your 6yo just give the toddler a taste? Sharing is caring and all that. No option for a pot rather than a cone? The machine wasn’t one of those push and leave it type deelies so you can’t measure out a small bit was it? Mind you I’ve not had a mr whippy for ages so I’d probably gobble it up and leave the toddler to risk it’s life trying to get some Grin

Where is this man who gives extra large ice creams plus a flake if you complain, asking for a friend..

burritofan · 27/05/2021 18:13

It was probably for Covid reasons.

(This is not a serious answer, don’t @ me)

If it was only a taste why couldn't the 6yo give a bit of hers?

But yeah, he was being an arse. Everyone used to go out with a bowl on a sunday for ice cream to go with the crumble when I was little.

3Britnee · 27/05/2021 18:15

@mamamalt

What?! That's so weird... the guy that comes up our street does a little half cone just for my LO! And it's free!!
That's probably what op was really angling for. And why she's now pissed off.
TheCanyon · 27/05/2021 18:16

The guy that does our town is a right miserable bugger, he would definitely have given you the tiniest morsel for full price

Tiredandbored · 27/05/2021 18:16

I must remember to ask the ice cream man for a small one the next time I'm getting ice cream... Grin

Happycat1212 · 27/05/2021 18:17

Apparently it’s super unreasonable to ask your kids to share a bit! My little one has dropped hers before and my 7 year old would happily give her a bit of his because the ice cream van had driven off, can’t believe how selfish some kids are!

imisscashmere · 27/05/2021 18:18

A lot of ice cream vans are linked to money laundering or other organised crime. Might have been something to do with that Shock

JM10 · 27/05/2021 18:18

I can't believe the ice cream man forced you to eat an ice cream 😱😂
