... by signing off an email with just ‘Regards, Mango’.

Is it too much Grin

Ooh. My husband starts emails with just the recipient’s name and then sometimes signs off using just his initials Shock

PlanDeRaccordement · 26/05/2021 13:15

Interesting. So can I ask you, my British friends to tell me whether closing by saying:

“With respect,

Name”

Is that good or not good?

Timeforabiscuit · 26/05/2021 13:17

What did they do?!?

TheQueef · 26/05/2021 13:19

You are calling them a fool, Plan

DownWhichOfLate · 26/05/2021 13:21

“With respect” does sound rather sarcastic, unfortunately.

IhateBoswell · 26/05/2021 13:22

Yeah to me “with respect” sounds very sarcastic.

Montalbanosono · 26/05/2021 13:22

I never knew this was considered rude. I've been doing it for years.

Montalbanosono · 26/05/2021 13:23

No salutation just first name is BRUTAL.

I do this too!

honeygirlz · 26/05/2021 13:23

Jesus, that’s cold Shock

MangosteenSoda · 26/05/2021 13:23

We just had further correspondence and I omitted the Hi and ended Regards (no name). Thanks all for helping me nail the appropriate level of livid Grin

Timper · 26/05/2021 13:26

Almost every single email I send and receive is signed off regards ... All internally - not a hint of passive aggressiveness to be had.

honeygirlz · 26/05/2021 13:26

You know you’ve made it when you can omit the greeting. Only senior exec get away with it.

TheQueef · 26/05/2021 13:26

Don't forget to tut and mutter under your breath.
Send it with contempt.

When I really loathe someone at work, I sign my email off with 'Kindest'. That is top pass agg satisfaction.

PlanDeRaccordement · 26/05/2021 13:31

Thank you all. I was suspecting something....but now I know. I will be sending back a “regards”

Sadly the person in question struck me as sexist because on learning I was directing a project that he is lead engineer on, he asked me about my “experience” and “had I done a project like this before”. Which made me laugh out loud at the silliness because I may be younger than him, but vastly more experienced. He later sent a strange apology type email and closed it “with respect” and I have been Hmm for the past few weeks as he is British and I thought might be cultural subtext going on.

Sorry for hijacking thread. But it reminded me of this and so I decided to take opportunity to get British read.

Velvian · 26/05/2021 13:32

YANBU.

I have heard that 'happy to discuss' translates as 'I will fight you in the car park' Grin

countrygirl99 · 26/05/2021 13:33

@ZooeyS

If I am REALLY fucked off I just sign it

Regards

No name, nothing. That'll learn 'em. (This response usually follows me starting with 'as per my last email')

Per the attached email is even more pointed
