To think the UK should not fund the Eurovision Song Contest?

Or bother entering obviously.

It’s a humiliation and everyone hates us so we hardly get any votes. None this year due to Brexit and the Covid vaccine probably.

Poor James Sad. He certainly didn’t deserve NIL points!

UK is never popular in Europe, even more now

Popular enough for huge numbers of young Polish people, and others to come and work here though.

That's the problem - within Europe, most other countries have much bigger diasporas than the U.K., so people can vote for their own country.

Arbadacarba · 23/05/2021 10:21

The song was too bland and forgettable. We need to enter with something upbeat and catchy.

MaxNormal · 23/05/2021 10:22

I can't believe some of the huffing over the resut.
The UK entry was shite-awful. At least the coke-snorting Italians were pretty.

Taytocrisps · 23/05/2021 10:22

If it's any consolation, we (ROI) didn't even qualify for the final.

DanceWithYourBalloon · 23/05/2021 10:22

We haven't had decent points since Jessica Garlic cane third in 2002/3?.
Just need to up our game!

ATieLikeRichardGere · 23/05/2021 10:24

I’m going through YouTube comments to see if it matches up with what people are saying here and it doesn’t. The song is actually drawing some love for the song itself, but as usual plenty of not-love for the UK.

SoapboxFox · 23/05/2021 10:25

We keep entering rubbish songs, but then so do the other countries. Even when we enter a good one, our musical tastes often differ from those of the countries. This has usually been the case.

HappydaysArehere · 23/05/2021 10:26

Absolutely. Does anyone really enjoy it at the moment? Is it worth the millions the BBC could spend on something decent.

bagsofshite · 23/05/2021 10:26

@CynsterBitch yes true but the point I'm making is that a lot of Brits just don't get Eurovision and take it far too seriously. It's just a fun and silly singing competition. No need to rip into the singers appearance, stomp feet and have a tantrum as everyone in Europe hates us and didn't bite for us. Come on! People need to get over themselves.

Geamhradh · 23/05/2021 10:26

@MrsFin

She said something, one sentence, in two languages, and then said she didn't know which language was which. When every single act and presenter in the show spoke perfect English.
Don't forget the ta-da "my name is Amanda Holden" bit. Because the whole of Europe was saying "who is this polyglot, we must sign her immediately" Or possibly not.
bagsofshite · 23/05/2021 10:26

@CynsterBitch didn't vote for us that should have said

MissAmandaLa1kes · 23/05/2021 10:28

Sounds like its set up like the soccer super league that got everyones panties in a bunch.

Lonelycrab · 23/05/2021 10:29

What a load of absolute crap our song was. I’ve heard better voices at a karaoke night.

TheMarzipanDildo · 23/05/2021 10:29

Nah we were just a bit shit. James seems sweet though.

TheyAreMinerals · 23/05/2021 10:30

NUL points. You got NUL points, people, not nil.

Donitta · 23/05/2021 10:31

YABU, I enjoy watching Eurovision and it’s one of the reasons I pay my tv licence. We got no points because we sent a fat bloke in a hideous coat with a rubbish song.

tentosix · 23/05/2021 10:31

Didn't watch it all, but thought the Song was pretty average. Yes, it's a lot of political stuff, but other songs were much more memorable. The public watch it and enjoy it for its bonkerness. So yes, we should pay this relatively small sum

Oysterbabe · 23/05/2021 10:33

I fucking love eurovision.
Our guy was a bad singer. Most of the other acts were sexy or had fantastic voices or a unique performance. Our guy had nothing. I wouldn't have voted for him over the many wonderful acts this year.

Alonelonelylonersbadidea · 23/05/2021 10:33

More than 12 hrs on and my brain cannot stop running the German song on a loop so clearly this one should've been the winner!

I liked the UK dude. I thought him adorable and liked the song. I wouldn't kick him out of bed (even if he were singing). Cwwwooaarr

StColumbofNavron · 23/05/2021 10:33

Also can I point out Amanda Holden:

‘That’s was Dutch and French but I don’t know which is which.’

TheMarzipanDildo · 23/05/2021 10:33

I honestly don’t think it’s as political as people think it is.

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 23/05/2021 10:33

I forgot about Bonnie! Eurovision is about the show, the song, the staging and the appeal of the singer or group. All the boxes need to be ticked and in addition, something different and creative. The Italian band had massive stage presence and used to busk on the streets of Rome. They are proper performers. Good for them.

ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 23/05/2021 10:34

Peak Eurovison is Fairtytale by Alexander Rybak for Norway 2009

All downhill since then!

Best all time act? ABBA?

TheGoogleMum · 23/05/2021 10:34

0 points is disappointing. I thought before the night the song was alright not the worst but far from the best, but he didn't perform well on the night so it's easy to see why nobody could give him points. I do feel a bit sorry for him though

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 23/05/2021 10:34

The song was meh this year. James did his best with it. Trouble is any singers thinking “I might have a crack at Eurovision” see a fiasco like last night and then think “fuck that”

I love Eurovision and have a cocktail party every year I pick another country to sponsor instead (Malta this year) makes it less bleak Grin

Take it as a huge back handed compliment, we don’t need to win a song contest cos we’re cool 😎
