Aibu to be unhappy with this new carpet?

Honestly I could cry. We had some plastering done almost 3 months ago and they made a real hash of it. Finally now we have painted it all and fixed the issues. Flooring got done today. Have been so excited to get home and I have just cried. The grippers don't even attach to the carpets in some doorways on the landing. There's bumps all over the stairs and I'm convinced you can see the joins on every step. AIBU to think this is crap or am I just a serial complainer expecting too much!!

Stand your ground OP. Be strong!

mainsfed · 21/05/2021 20:20

That's terrible.

Wingedharpy · 21/05/2021 20:46

Who measured the room for ordering the carpet?

backtowasteanotherhour · 21/05/2021 20:46

YANBU. That looks very sloppy!

I hope you get results!

Laiste · 21/05/2021 20:59

Don't think of it as a confrontation OP. You haven't been rude. You don't intend to be rude. You just want proper service. You haven't got to start arguing about refunds because you haven't paid yet.

Any business worth it's name will want you to be happy (and their money) so will want to put it right.

I wouldn't let them do any other work until the carpet is sorted.

Longdistance · 21/05/2021 21:02

Get them back to sort it. Ffs, that’s a ‘it’s Friday, I want to finish to week early’ job.

Olivia789 · 21/05/2021 21:18

Hes replied, responses below...

"Oh my god this is shocking.
Give me 5 mins."

"Okay the fitter isn’t answering
But doesn’t really matter it’s a joke of a fitting job
I’m sending the manager over tomorrow to fit the lvt
I will replace the carpets fully
And obviously readjust the price for the mistake
I’m actually fuming ! As I had half a day off today as it was supposed to be easy for everyone today"

We've discussed a bit more, he is extremely apologetic. We won't get new carpet done till mid week as he is reordering it Monday.

Thanks so much for all of your help and advice Smile
I can relax a bit now

And to clarify for those who asked about the plastering.
That was a separate company who we used and the plaster all blew a week in, then when they repaired it loads went wrong. We had to postpone the flooring a few times so they were aware we have had a nightmare with it which is why this got to me so much. The owner had even joked with me about using a proper plasterer next time (he was btw) so this was just beyond ridiculous

Well done @Olivia789
You gave the company the opportunity to rectify the mistake, keeping that fitter would cost them business.
It sounds like your contact is apologetic and will take steps to resolve it so soon you can put it all behind you!

BruceAndNosh · 21/05/2021 21:29

Good response!

FourTeaFallOut · 21/05/2021 21:30

He sounds like a good guy, op. A bit more disruption but looks like it will be all fixed.

Newnamefor2021 · 21/05/2021 21:30

Sounds like a good guy, glad it's getting sorted OP. I can see why you were so upset.

GreyhoundG1rl · 21/05/2021 21:31

Oh, I'm so glad it's sorted. Unbelievable mess!

SourMilkGhyll · 21/05/2021 21:34

That sounds like a good response and sounds as though they will get it sorted. Do NOT let them do the other floor until the carpet is sorted.

AndroidsAliensAndWizards · 21/05/2021 21:35

Are the grippers even proper laminate to carpet ones?

CassandraCross · 21/05/2021 22:51

Brilliant news, OP, see nothing confrontational there!

Nohomemadecandles · 21/05/2021 22:53

Oh gosh. I'm glad it's sorted. Sounds mortified too

DaphneDuBois · 21/05/2021 23:06

I couldn’t believe how bad those pics were, OP.

It sounds like they had trusted an absolute idiot to fit this and are really sorry about the state of it - I’m glad you’ve got them on your side. I kind of feel sorry for them as their reputation is probably being damaged by this crappy fitter. Happy you’re getting it fixed though!

Aduckandachick · 21/05/2021 23:09

No that’s shocking!

LST · 21/05/2021 23:23

So glad you got that response op. What a waste of carpet! I don't think that guy had ever laid carpet in his life!

Pinkylemons · 22/05/2021 00:04

I’ve had absolutely loads of carpets laid and worked in a job where I had a lot of people carpets laid . I’ve never seen such an awful job! There is no way I’d be letting them fit anything else and I would 100% not pay for that!

Pinkylemons · 22/05/2021 00:06

Just seen your update. Thank goodness it’s getting sorted x

Muchmorethan · 22/05/2021 17:59

How is the new flooring?

Funnyface1 · 22/05/2021 18:26

Glad you're getting it sorted. I was just going to say you were right to complain. You're paying good money and that is an awful finish, what the hell is that lump? My stairs are tricky, they go round a bend and when I had new carpet 2 years ago they did an immaculate job. Still looks great now so I think good fitting is important.

Olivia789 · 23/05/2021 18:25

Thank you for all the responses Smile
@Muchmorethan we decided not to let them come back with us being out, I dont feel comfortable having them back in until we are home and we had a day out planned yesterday so they didn't come. We are expecting them mid week once the new carpet arrives to fit that and the LVT.
