Aibu to be unhappy with this new carpet?

Honestly I could cry. We had some plastering done almost 3 months ago and they made a real hash of it. Finally now we have painted it all and fixed the issues. Flooring got done today. Have been so excited to get home and I have just cried. The grippers don't even attach to the carpets in some doorways on the landing. There's bumps all over the stairs and I'm convinced you can see the joins on every step. AIBU to think this is crap or am I just a serial complainer expecting too much!!

You need to speak to them now, there is no way they can justify or consider that a professional job. I would be wary of leaving them in the house unsupervised tomorrow.

MadMadMadamMim · 21/05/2021 17:28

That's poor laying and I wouldn't be happy at paying for it. Phone and leave a message on the answerphone (if they have one) to say you are really dissatisfied with the job and you want to speak to someone before they do any more.

Mistressiggi · 21/05/2021 17:29

Did an apprentice do it?
It looks exactly like my carpet actually, which has been down for years and been lifted a few times at the joins - would not be happy with this in a brand new one!

Hidehi4 · 21/05/2021 17:29

They have cut it too short at the doorways, happened to mine and now they have threaded and now look even more shit. Defo say something to them before they come back tomorrow. Did they supply the carpet or just laid it

LST · 21/05/2021 17:29

I'd speak to them before they make a hash of your flooring. That is not a good job at all! I would be so angry.

CassandraCross · 21/05/2021 17:30

I'd phone them now and get whoever the boss is to come round and I wouldn't let them do anything else until they had rectified that disaster nor would I pay them anything until they had.

FourTeaFallOut · 21/05/2021 17:31

That's just awful, op. I'd speak to them about how they were going to fix it tonight, before they start any further work.

FourTeaFallOut · 21/05/2021 17:31

Sorry, I don't mean fix it tonight...I mean, find out what they are going to do to fix it tomorrow.

leeds2glasgow · 21/05/2021 17:33

Absolutely not!! You need to ring them!!

Wobblywibblywoo · 21/05/2021 17:34

That’s shocking work, complain now before you get them to do anymore, if they lay carpet that way I dread to think how bad the hard floor laying will be, and don’t hand over a penny until it’s fixed and your happy with it

HollyBollyBooBoo · 21/05/2021 17:43

Wowzers that is truly shocking. Don't pay anything. You'll need to be clear on every point that's wrong, give them an opportunity to fix it and then see if they do better the 2nd time.

daisy46 · 21/05/2021 17:45

that is the worst carpet laying job I've ever seen. I wouldn't want touching the rest of my floors if they think that's an acceptable job.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 21/05/2021 17:46

The bump might flatten down. We got new carpets a few years ago and there was a bit if a bump in the living room for a few days and then it just disappeared. The finishings however are dreadful. Thatz not the carpet that's just a rubbish fitting job and I would be complaining about that!

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 21/05/2021 17:46

That's Hmm

Floralnomad · 21/05/2021 17:47

Looks like an amateur has laid it without the proper tools .

HeronLanyon · 21/05/2021 17:50

Agree with advice to call now / leave message and complain. They’ll have to redo. It actually looks like what I imagine I might do if I tried it myself - partic the 5th and the shortfall around the grippers. Don’t pay anything until it is put right. Perhaps be in if at all possible next time.

Winniewonka · 21/05/2021 17:58

I would email these photos tonight to the company saying how unhappy you are with the standard of work and it needs redoing. As they have cut the carpet short in some places, you expect a replacement for those areas. Also say you don't want the same fitters doing the other flooring job.

Olivia789 · 21/05/2021 18:28

Thanks all. I've just sent them all to the owner with this message. I will keep you updated.

"I'm sorry to have to send this, but honestly I am so unhappy with the carpet.
After the nightmare we have had with the plaster I have looked forward to today for so long and honestly - it just looks a mess. Please let me know ASAP how this can be rectified."

I think you needed to be more specific about the issues to be honest. Set them all out in bullet points and tell them what you expect them to do

Olivia789 · 21/05/2021 18:34

@GeorgeTheFirst
I sent him pics and circled the issues and wrote a message on each outlining the problem.
Eg. Carpet fraying here
Carpet doesn't meet the gripper here
This was meant to be tucked under
Gripper doesn't touch bathroom floor
Etc.

Do you think that will be okay?

He hasn't read it. I feel sick I hate confrontation but I'm so cross!

OP posts:
CassandraCross · 21/05/2021 18:38

It's not confrontation it's is simply a complaint regarding shoddy workmanship, you are the customer you are who they work for and are paid by, you are who they need to keep happy.

There is no way the owner would countenance having that level of workmanship in his home, so why should you?

You are in the right, no need to apologise or feel bad that is what they should be doing.

BeaLola · 21/05/2021 18:44

It looks shoddy

I would not be letting them in tomorrow to do the other flooring whilst you were out

They need to resolve this -the only good thing is you haven't paid them

Mindymomo · 21/05/2021 18:45

I worked for a carpet contractor and you are absolutely justified at being disappointed with the fitting of this carpet. I’m afraid it’s really bad.

PurpleFlower1983 · 21/05/2021 18:48

It’s awful! It all needs to come up.

littlepattilou · 21/05/2021 18:49

@Olivia789 YANBU, that is shocking! Shock

I could have done that better myself.

What company did you use? Bodgit and Scarper? Confused

Hope your email of complaint garners some favourable results.
