Or do you know someone that is? I'm curious how many real life people are actually on it.

I'm not a journo, the Daily mail is a shit rag.

Exactly and frankly, without sex workers then there would be far more rapes and assaults than there is now, disgusting but true and men are the issue, not women.
Jesus.
MissScotland101 · 21/05/2021 17:12

@TedImgoingmad

I’m perhaps not articulating myself well but the main point I’m saying is that not all women who work in the sex industry are vulnerable and let’s face it, the media etc only reports sex workers that are vulnerable, ie addicted to drugs, victims of abuse etc etc, the media isn’t going to paint a nice picture of workers within the sex industry are they, that won’t do at all.

I'd say being vulnerable is an entry level qualification.

Leaving school with little viable education makes you vulnerable.

Having no career ambition or direction in life makes you vulnerable.

Lacking in the sort of boundaries that allows you to do porn related work makes you vulnerable.

Lacking the usual "shame factors" - e.g. a family who cares about you - makes you vulnerable.

Having an addiction - to drugs, sex, money or whatever drives you - makes you vulnerable.

Having children to feed, other dependents, no partner to help you, and no way of being able to sustain a regular job makes you vulnerable.

Living in a world where social media addiction is rife, the overreach of lifestyle influencers on young women, and the desire for instant emulation and gratification, requiring instant large quantities money to achieve it, makes you vulnerable.

Earning lots of money from any job that depends on entry level vulnerability, whether that's one or all of the above, is not something to be proud of or to be encouraged by wider society.

She wasn’t interested in studying and I think due to being raised on a benefits lifestyle then she wanted money, and wasn’t willing to be skint for years whilst studying, she is happy doing what she is doing but I do wonder what she will do when she is seen as too old for sex industry work, she saves money but spends lots of it too, although I think travelling the world is 2nd to buying property, she has no kids either so doesn’t need to worry about that.

I have NC for this and maybe I might regret admitting this as I imagine some would love to pull me apart for it but I have an OF.

A lot of sex workers are already being raped every day.

Can I ask exactly what sort of stuff you do, if you don’t want to answer then don’t, my friend just posts suggestive pics but keeps sexy underwear on.
Grellbunt · 21/05/2021 17:14

I think laying all the blame at men's doors is a bit simplistic. Things aren't just black and white, societal changes and trends can have many causes and unintended consequences. Just because sth might be good for certain individuals in the short term it doesn't mean it won't have harmful consequences for them and/or others in society as a whole in the long term. So looking for someone to blame doesn't get us very far.

SofiaMichelle · 21/05/2021 17:16

@VicarOfWibbly

One of my friends works in recruitment and OnlyFans is now a site that gets searched for potential future employees. The way some firms will ask for an assessment of normal social media like posts from 2007 saying how stoned they were or anything like that - they search for that and now on OnlyFans too. Worth bearing in mind. She had a candidate who lost a job offer because she would be bringing her future firm into disrepute.
Sounds dubious to say the least.
  1. Anyone stupid enough to use their real name is stupid enough that you wouldn't want to employ them in the first place.
  1. Unless the recruiters pay a subscription individually for each and every candidate they want to view - even if they could find them (see point 1.) they're going to see absolutely nothing whatsoever.
  1. OF is used by people who do personal training, cooking classes, etc, etc, etc. So if they did find the person (point 1. again) then they still wouldn't know anything untoward without subscribing to their account.

*Is this friend producing gay porn content?

I am guessing the number of heterosexual men producing content for the titilation of heterosexual women is next to non existent?*

There are absolutely men who promote their OF on Twitter. Not necessarily gay, why would it be? It can just be nude videos like in the mirror or masturbating.

Why would these men care who watches their videos? They're getting paid. Also, they're not intimate with them, so why would it matter

Letsgetreadytocrumble · 21/05/2021 17:18

Men are such fucking weirdos. Paying hundreds just to see a pair of breasts or a fanny, Jesus.

And then there are the ones who pay shit loads of money for women's used knickers to be sent to them in the post - I have to say I could be tempted by that one, easy money!

Only Fans generally though is terrible for women - it doesn't give them freedom or liberation, quite the opposite.

GlamGiraffe · 21/05/2021 17:19

I work as an accountant specialising in adult industries. We have a large number of clients from Onlyfans.
All of pur clients receive appropriate advice about management of money and future planning not just, vat and NI payments .
It's far from unusual for people on Only fans to be earning well into the 100s of thousands a year. We have women in their 20s who own properties outright and have invested in portfolios of properties which will provide them with long term income through both rental/capital growth.
Most creators spend very little time compiling their material and release it slowly over time to keep their page fresh so that it doesnt take them long.
Almost all of our only fans clients have professional careers, thry make money and enjoy working as only fans creators. They earn far more than they would ever earn from their professional careers.
Many people are earning extremely well from OnlyFans, they are not necessarily showing pornographic content. They are doing something they enjoy and are happy to do in their own time as it suits them and are being well rewarded. They are very often doing this alongside a "normal" career. If someone is wise to the situation they are in and makng sensible decisions Onlyfans suits many people well.

FrankButchersDickieBow · 21/05/2021 17:19

Getting your tits out to make money, is not empowering. Even if women think it is.

For every one woman who thinks the sex industry is fabulous and have a ferrari and a house paid off, there are 1000 more being raped and assaulted, struggling with addictions and life, every day.

The patriarchy have played a blinder when it comes to this. It's ALL for the male gaze whether women think they have the power or not.

They don't!

skybluee · 21/05/2021 17:20

Yep - the people doing 'well' i.e. above the wage of a normal job is low.

Even things like Myfreecams, the average salary is surprisingly low.

Letsgetreadytocrumble · 21/05/2021 17:22

Most of the heterosexual men I know would be horrified at the thought of another man whacking off to a video of them, erm, whacking off!

And women on OF far, far outnumber the men.

Letsgetreadytocrumble · 21/05/2021 17:24

Aren't they worried about photos from the OF leaking all over the Internet and affecting their 'professional careers'?

NameChange189373 · 21/05/2021 17:24

Can I ask exactly what sort of stuff you do

Of course. I’ll try to give you a basic photograph of how it works for me so sorry if my explanation is long. So I charge a basic subscription fee and then I post a photo every single day, sometimes more. I don’t take pics every day, I usually dedicate one day a week to creating my content and doing outfit/hair and makeup changes and then upload it throughout the week. I can’t tell you how much I charge per month as I often do offers eg next 5 subscribers get 50% off or if you subscribe for 3 months then you get 20% off.

The posts that I post that my subscribers get access to are not naked. They are in underwear/bikinis/suggestive poses. I would never post a naked photo on there because they would be getting access to my naked body for not a lot of money. Once subscribed your subscribers have the option to buy personalised content from you. You don’t have to agree to this obviously and you can negotiate on it. I don’t do porn or anything like that however do topless and more risqué. I should add that I used to be a dancer (or stripper as I know some people prefer to call it) so nudity doesn’t bother me.

Subscribers can also send you tips and often people do this in return for you messaging them. I don’t have a big social media following however I have around 15k followers on Instagram and I know a lot of my subscribers do come from that. It is actually really hard to get subscribers, I know a lot of girls who I used to work in the club with have made it and then ended up going over to camming because it is hard as so many girls have OF now a days. I’m lucky I had a smallish following on Instagram as I don’t think I would have done so well out of it otherwise. I am 24 as I imagine that may be asked, my Mum knows about it too. I’m happy to answer questions if anyone has them but won’t be answering any derogatory or inflammatory ones as I am happy with my life and with having OF. Hope this helps.

I was trying to gauge the male to female ratios on OF, both with regard to content providers and consumers. My point being, men performing acts for/with other men still means the content is mainly for men. I am guessing the number of women consuming porn on OF is fairly low. Although, it appears men doing the ironing is popular.

And what's your cut? Being a glorified pimp is nothing to be proud of.
AdjustableAssholeSettings · 21/05/2021 17:34

No, because I don't believe in the exploitation of women.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 21/05/2021 17:34

GlamGiraffe · 21/05/2021 17:34

Apparently not.
It seems to be a standard practice.
It would concen me personallly but it is a decision they all make.

CardinalLolzy · 21/05/2021 17:39

My friend who does it has quite a following who like to watch him do quite mundane things, ironing, gym workouts, things like that.

So my point, which wasn't too clear, is that it's not about "pictures of people in their workout gear" per se, it's that plus some sense of a relationship or ownership in an indirect way of that person.

To me, that's the scary thing, having people (not all, but there will be some) who think they know you through the pictures and fake relationship they need to cultivate and believe they are entitled to a bit of you.

Anonymous porn pictures are actually less scary of an idea to me than this building up of a real person in their heads. When anyone can be doxxed and their location made public.

GlamGiraffe · 21/05/2021 17:40

And what's your cut? Being a glorified pimp is nothing to be proud of.

If you truly believe helping someone correctly and effciently handle their taxes on monies earnt for a perfectly legal and legitimate source equates to pimpimg am afraid you are lacking in understanding.

Acting as a regulated prfessional who treats clients with dignity and respect and treats them the same as everyone else and prvdes a godessd quality service, in a world where so many people are judgemental, rude and disparaging is something i believe strongly in.
