To ask what the best gadget is you ever bought - large or small

I was just washing up the crusty dishes that DH helpfully put in "to soak" and used some pampered chef plastic scraper to get the grot off and thought how simple yet clever (yes I might the two cheapest items at a party years ago).
I feel like I need more stuff like this. Small or large but to make my life easier. Tell me yours ? I fancy being nosy and I'm bored

Olive spoon is unavailable now!! Damn!

imjustanerd · 21/05/2021 07:30

My hand operated mini vegetable chopper, £2 from Poundland absolute bargain I use it all the time.

burninglikefire · 21/05/2021 07:33

Really useful thread. Have just ordered a knife sharpener!

My most useful gadget is my hob top coffee pot. I use this every single day - so simple and, unlike posh coffee machines, takes up no space and is cleaned/rinsed in seconds.

My Dyson handheld.
Don't know how I ever lived without it

violetbunny · 21/05/2021 07:42

Bread maker. Tonight I'm making dough so I can have freshly baked cinnamon rolls in the morning.

NeedATan · 21/05/2021 07:45

@LakieLady

My basic Kenwood food processor/blender. Chops a mound of onion or grates a big wedge of cheese in a couple of seconds, makes lovely fine breadcrumbs to top a pasta bake, makes home-made coleslaw a breeze, whips cream beautifully, fab for making mayo, purees etc.

It's been worth every penny and fully justifies the space it takes up in the cupboard.

Mind you, I'm also very impressed with the Bissell carpet shampooer I bought a couple of weeks ago and used for the first time the other day. It's about a million times more effective than the Rug Doctor I hired.

What is the carpet cleaner model name/number please?
Pottedpalm · 21/05/2021 07:47

A needle threader.
A little knife with a spring attachment to change the thickness of peel removed. Can use without for normal cutting.

BeyondMyWits · 21/05/2021 07:54

A teeny orb by oxo for icing sugar dusting cakes.

Mainly for the sheer, utter joy it gave my daughter who bakes... and it does the job perfectly with no mess

ScoopyDoo · 21/05/2021 07:54

A Mexican elbow, for juicing limes. Saw Nigella use one on tv last year, bought one, and use it pretty much daily for limes and lemons (I seem to use a lot in my cooking). Genius tool for getting all the juice even out of the dried up limes that languish at the bottom of the fruit bowl.

Hmm not sure this classes as a gadget but pyrex glass baking trays are a game changer.

This is the kind of info I love. I am always on the look out for a decent carpet cleaner. Never found one better than Rug Doctor yet but they are so heavy and grimy. My Vax is rubbish. Just doesn't work at all.

MsCupcake · 21/05/2021 08:04

Definitely my Ninja Foodi, in fact several of it’s relations have since joined the household... to the point I haven’t used my oven in over 8 months!

Chickenlickeninthepot · 21/05/2021 08:05

Perfect Prep machine.

Not a gadget as such but getting USB plug sockets installed in key places in the house has made charging all our tech so much easier.

I love mine, too. They make fabulous coffee!

I always grind the beans so the coffee's really fresh and have this fab little beast which does a great job and takes up hardly any space.

Jar scraper. It’s actually a silicone pallet knife for icing but it is a brilliant tall jar scraper.

Moka pot. I like strong coffee. This delivers.

Swiffer. I use it for walls and drying floors after mopping .

Dishmatic stick thing. I can clean stuff but not get my hands wet. I don’t use it on dishes. I use it on walls, surfaces, hard to reach places.

Janedownourlane · 21/05/2021 08:10

A sellotape dispenser.

Stretchandsnap · 21/05/2021 08:12

My oxo peeler - it’s bloody brilliant and also recently bought an oxo lemon zester - totally upped my gin game

Febo24 · 21/05/2021 08:13

Air fryer.... everything goes in there. Even toasties.

Looks like I'll about to order a shit load more gadgets though!

LakieLady · 21/05/2021 08:13

I was amazed at what a difference it made. And horrified by the colour of the dirty water when it collected in the reservoir. It was truly black.

When I emptied it out, the water was full of fine gritty stuff, like sand. You'd have thought I'd just washed beach towels in the sink, the amount of sand that was in the bottom.

I now get how regular shampooing helps reduce carpet wear. I really wish I'd bought one 30 years ago, although they probably weren't as good then.

Alfxn · 21/05/2021 08:14

Our robot lawnmower. We have a pretty big garden and it always looks golf course pristine now, with no effort at all! Makes our house look ten times better from the outside.

I would love a eufy/ robot vacc too, but that's not on the cards for a while...

Disfordarkchocolate · 21/05/2021 08:15

A knife sharpener and some cheap kitchen tongs. I can't believe I never bought either until I was in my 50's!

NeedATan · 21/05/2021 08:17

@LakieLady thanks. And it's better than the rug doctor?

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 21/05/2021 08:20

My Thermomix, I love it so much. Although I'd never be without the Philips airfryer or robovac either. And I love my Miele washing machine and tumble drier, mainly because I won them and they are top of the range so do everything, bar folding the clothes and putting them away. i bloody love gadgets.

Alfiemoon1 · 21/05/2021 08:22

Following as love a gadget. Didn’t know robotic lawnmowers existed
