I was just washing up the crusty dishes that DH helpfully put in "to soak" and used some pampered chef plastic scraper to get the grot off and thought how simple yet clever (yes I might the two cheapest items at a party years ago).
I feel like I need more stuff like this. Small or large but to make my life easier. Tell me yours ? I fancy being nosy and I'm bored

My countertop dishwasher and the little long-handled scoop with holes in that I use to get capers, olives and gherkins out of the jar with.

TwoAndAnOnion · 20/05/2021 19:47

Lidl, £10, an electronic chopper. Onions are a doddle now!

CheeseIsMyJam · 20/05/2021 19:49

Fancy potato peeler with a blade on either side so you run it up and down to peel. Super quick and easy.

Badgertadger · 20/05/2021 19:50

Good grips garlic press. Use it every day. Has a neat wee doofer that helps get rid of the gunge. All other garlic presses are shite.

Hyperion100 · 20/05/2021 19:55

A really expensive kitchen knife with a whetstone for sharpening.

polkadotpjs · 20/05/2021 19:59

@FangsForTheMemory I need such a scoop!! Tell me more. I also want a knife but no clue where to start. It's all in the feel in the hand when chopping !

Velvetiser. Bought for me as a gift but it's changed everything

ThinWomansBrain · 20/05/2021 20:09

Sistema egg poacher, maybe not the most beautiful poached eggs, but cooked in less time than it takes to toast bread and for the kettle to boil. Also perfectly 'roll-sized' for a packed lunch.
Microwave veg steamer - perfect steamed veg every time, minimal washing up.
Both are brilliant cooking for one - possibly less time/labour saving cooking for a family.

LakieLady · 20/05/2021 20:11

My basic Kenwood food processor/blender. Chops a mound of onion or grates a big wedge of cheese in a couple of seconds, makes lovely fine breadcrumbs to top a pasta bake, makes home-made coleslaw a breeze, whips cream beautifully, fab for making mayo, purees etc.

It's been worth every penny and fully justifies the space it takes up in the cupboard.

Mind you, I'm also very impressed with the Bissell carpet shampooer I bought a couple of weeks ago and used for the first time the other day. It's about a million times more effective than the Rug Doctor I hired.

therocinante · 20/05/2021 20:14

Phillips Lumea at-home laser. Haven't shaved my legs in about 2 years, used to do it at 8am and have hedgehog legs by teatime!

Workinghardeveryday · 20/05/2021 20:16

Fermanator dog brush, no other brush gets hair off a dog like it!

BigcatLittlecat · 20/05/2021 20:18

Jamie Oliver potato peeler! Amazing!

PastramiNoRye · 20/05/2021 20:19

A fuginator! It's a grout brush and it's awesome.

@LakieLady which machine was it and can it do upholstery? 😊

It's one of these, by WMF, which has shops in every sizeable town in Germany www.amazon.co.uk/WMF-Profi-Plus-Olive-Spoon/dp/B000WN006O?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

Vibrator

Twinkie01 · 20/05/2021 20:39

This weird spinning thing that cleans your make up brushes. It's amazing and loads of fun to see the grotty stuff fly off the brushes as they spin.

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 20/05/2021 20:39

Eufy robot hoover

ScribblingPixie · 20/05/2021 20:42

Tiny plastic thing that slides around an orange and slices the peel so it's easy to remove. Really saves my fingernails.

polkadotpjs · 20/05/2021 20:47

@FangsForTheMemory bought a spoon! Easy choice to make. Just need to justify a new food processor and vacuum

A Danish tin opener, a simple oblong of metal with a dimple for the thumb and a sharp point. I can open any tin, leaves no jaggered edges, I always take it on holiday as I can t get to grips with any other tin opener. A perfectly designed tool.

LakieLady · 20/05/2021 20:58

It's this one,@itsmeagainagain. I didn't pay that price for it though!

And it has a hose and brushes and stuff for upholstery, but my furniture's leather so I won't be using them.

The shampoo that comes with it smells lovely, and when I hoovered a couple of days later, it revived the smell and it still smells lovely and fresh. It got ancient puppy pee stains out, and even some old stains that I think were red wine, and the 15 year old carpet looks almost as good as new.

It exceeded my expectations by miles. I ought to write a review really.

MilduraS · 20/05/2021 21:01

Not a cheap one but my Kenwood Chef food mixer. I wanted one for years and finally bought it after getting a bonus at work. It lives on the counter and we've used it almost every other day for the last few years. Mostly for pizza dough, cakes, bread dough and making salsas/curry pastes in the food mill attachment.

MereDintofPandiculation · 20/05/2021 21:03

A "utilikey". Thing the size and shape of a Yale key that sits on my key ring, and has screwdrivers, knife, saw, and bottle opener. None of them very good, but they're always there. A bad tool which is with you when you need it is more use than a good tool which isn't there when you want it.

It's really caught on, because there are now lots of imitations about half price.
