What are your weird personal rules?

I have a personal rule, and I don't know where it came from, but it's: No outside things can touch the inside of the bed.

For example, if I want to put a bag on the bed, I would put it on top of the duvet. Absolutely no way in hell could I put it on the bottom sheet, or if the duvet was rucked up or folded over on the inside of the duvet. It makes me on edge just thinking about it.

Please share your weird personal rules (lighthearted + no judgement here)!

Forgot one . I have to have a sip from my glass of water after I turn off the bedside light. Not two, not none, has to be one.

BlindyPeakers · 17/05/2021 18:29

If I have wet hands, I have to dry them before I brush my teeth.

muckypaws · 17/05/2021 18:29

@Happytobejabbed

Only certain mugs.

I do like to count things - how many screws hold something together, how many holes in something, lights in a ceiling. Just out of interest really.

Not starting something until other things are all ok. A bit like Eric Morecambe and Andrè Previn.

Yes, I count things as well! I can't sit opposite a window with lots of little diamond panes in because they are devils to count.
Singlebutmarried · 17/05/2021 18:31

No washing clothes on New Year’s Day. You’ll wash the luck out of the year.

Mugs have to be stacked upside down and with their ‘partners’ we have three different sets of mugs so three sets of four.

Mo sauce touching food. Must be on the side, you dunk don’t smother.

booksandnooks · 17/05/2021 18:31

@kiksta

I also don't finish a cup of tea. No idea why. Any other drink will be finished but a cuppa, I have to leave a drop in the bottom
same. probably because of the tealeaves that escape but that isn't much of a problem with a bag. Still, feels a little too risky not leaving a bit
AliceMcK · 17/05/2021 18:35

Far too many

I’m the same with bags or anything that’s been outside going on the bed, goes for table tops and counters too. Especially handbags that couod have been in lots of disgusting places, public toilets, the floors of pubs, changing room floors, office floors...washing baskets are the same, I don’t take them outside I bring the clothes to them inside. I also have dirty baskets and clean. If I use a dirty basket for clean clothes I have to clean it with detox first.

Don’t dry your hands on kitchen towels, that’s what hand towels are for.
Never drink water out of the hot tap.
Always run the cold tap first before drinking water
Always put fresh water in the kettle
No toothpastes is allowed to be left in toothbrushes. They get washed with hot water when they are finished with. Same for the sink.
Underwear matching
Pjs matching
Bed sets matching
Towels and bedding neatly folded and organised in cupboards
I hate people putting their feet on my furniture or taking their shoes off in my house. I’d rather mop my floors after than loom and smell their stinky feet 🤢
No aubergine/eggplant in my house or to be eaten by my family as it’s evil.

XenoBitch · 17/05/2021 18:36

I can't go in the same shop more than once in one day. If I forget something, tough... it has to wait until another day.
If I do anything with one hand, one side of mouth etc, I have to do the same on the other side to make it even. I feel horribly off kilter if I don't do this.

WestendVBroadway · 17/05/2021 18:39

@Twenty2, You put your bra on after your socks. Well there lies madness!

Cailleach · 17/05/2021 18:40

Underwear is either black or white. No colours.
Two pairs of socks on at all times...one thin then one thick.
Crockery and cutlery must be put back into the cupboard before using....Cannot be used straight from the draining board where it is drying.
First cup of coffee of the day is in the big mug....subsequent cups of coffee are from other mugs and never, ever from the big mug for the rest of the day.

Snooks1971 · 17/05/2021 18:41

@Janedownourlane

Always leave a couple of beans in the tin after emptying into the pan to let them feel like they've escaped being eaten. Also no tins upside down in the cupboard in case the contents get a headache.
Oh no, oh no, no no.

The beans must stay together, imagine being the lonely bean (s) left in the tin, scared and alone. Beans must all live and subsequently die together. All for one....

Twenty2 · 17/05/2021 18:42

No, it's to keep myself and the world safe!

blueshoes · 17/05/2021 18:43

Before I go to bed, I must have a fully charged mobile phone next to me, set to the dial screen. My other phone is charging in the cupboard, also set to dial screen. The idea is if I hear a noise at night, I can dial 999 quickly. Burglar alarm must be set to night mode and blink cameras armed.

thelightishere · 17/05/2021 18:44

@LadyCatStark

The volume of air conditioning must be on an even number.
My DH can't watch telly unless the volume is on an even number. Absolutely no other OCD traits whatsoever!
Checkingout811 · 17/05/2021 18:48

@Mellonsprite this is exactly what I do! I can’t let DD help anymore as she uses different coloured pegs on the same items so I end up having to change it.

Checkingout811 · 17/05/2021 18:49

Long sleeved T-shirt’s cannot go in the same pile as short sleeved T-shirt’s. See also shorts & trousers/jogging bottoms.
This mainly applies to my sons drawers as everyone else’s get hung up in the wardrobe.

Cottonheadedninymuggins · 17/05/2021 18:51

I don't like wet food things touching dry food things. It comes from my dad used to cook some nights for us and would put gravy in a meal where there was baked beans... ugh. It brings me out in goosebumps just thinking about it. I'm not so bad that I can't have food touching but I do like to have my beans separate from my full english.

The same happens when I think about the squeak on your teeth of chewing the sleeves of clothes - particularly jumpers and sweatshirts - no thank you!! It's literally giving me shivers down my back thinking of it and I can hear the squeak.

Cocomarine - I agree with cold drinks in mugs - wrong! I also don't like drinking wine in anything other than a wine glass with a stem. I don't drink it often but I don't like drinking it in another glass or a wine glass without a stem. Weird.

I can't drink out of straws that other people have used. We have reusable straws and straw brushes to clean them but I cannot use one knowing someone else has already used it so we all have a separate colour.

isthismylifenow · 17/05/2021 18:52

I can only drink coffee from the thicker taller mug, but tea must be in a bone china mug. It just doesn't taste right otherwise.

On the bed, I have two piilows each side. The front one matches the duvet cover. No part of my body is allowed to lay on that pillow. Luckily I'm single so I put it next to me at night so it doesn't get touched. God knows what I will do if I ever go into another relationship, and someone will need to sleep in the posh pillow place.

coffeerose · 17/05/2021 18:52

Before picking up a pair of scissors I have to do 2 cutting motions with my index and middle finger.

Checkingout811 · 17/05/2021 18:52

Oh, and matching mugs & glasses get lined up in the cupboards. So all the wine glasses in a line, all the cream mugs in a line, all the tumblers in a line etc
No novelty mugs. They’re all the same colour & match the plates & bowls.
All photo frames in the house match. No novelty frames.

Cottonheadedninymuggins · 17/05/2021 18:54

Also can't deal with shoes being worn whilst putting feet up on settees/pouffe/beds etc. Or handbags on chairs/beds too.

Why would you put something that has been outside - particularly during a pandemic - and touched the floor (potentially toilet floors to for both) and then put it on the place where you sleep/sit to get comfortable?

TheAirbender · 17/05/2021 18:56

Nobody touches my ears.

Never eat anything orange-type fruit.

Tv volume must be 0, 25, 50, 75 or 100. Never anything inbetween.

Other than those pretty much anything goes - but then I have adhd and making rules and routines is hard!

AppleSouffle · 17/05/2021 18:58

I have to use bag clips which match the food packaging e.g. yellow for pasta, green for frozen peas, blue for oven chips (blue bag).
The washing must be hung in groups of items for each person. If DH mixes it up when hanging it I can’t look.
I can’t eat certain foods made if by other people, especially porridge, even though I really like them when I’ve cooked them.

Aneley · 17/05/2021 19:01

Have to eat gummy bears in pairs, matching colours. If they're mismatched not eaten in pairs - they'll be left out/alone :)

Nothing external touches the bed. Especially not DDs bed.

No socks in bed. Ever.

Slippy78 · 17/05/2021 19:02

My god you all need some serious help.

coffeerose · 17/05/2021 19:03

Must wash my feet before getting into bed, no matter how tired, smashed, ill, etc I am my feet must be washed properly. A quick facecloth wash of them won't do.
