What are your weird personal rules?

I have a personal rule, and I don't know where it came from, but it's: No outside things can touch the inside of the bed.

For example, if I want to put a bag on the bed, I would put it on top of the duvet. Absolutely no way in hell could I put it on the bottom sheet, or if the duvet was rucked up or folded over on the inside of the duvet. It makes me on edge just thinking about it.

Please share your weird personal rules (lighthearted + no judgement here)!

What a collection !
The things I do are perfectly normal & rational - e.g. what OP does, & sniffing everything before I eat it.
Everything else is not, LOL

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 17/05/2021 19:04

@maddiemookins16mum

Knickers on before bra.
That's all very well if you don't have hoik 'em up out of the way first...
StCharlotte · 17/05/2021 19:04

@kiksta

I also don't finish a cup of tea. No idea why. Any other drink will be finished but a cuppa, I have to leave a drop in the bottom
I was like this for years. In my case it stemmed from tea being made with tea leaves which might lurk at the bottom.

I also can't drink a cold drink out of a mug and mugs have to have a fine rim (ideally bone china) and a white inside. If I drank coffee I expect I'd have whole set of different rules.

XenoBitch · 17/05/2021 19:05

My DH can't watch telly unless the volume is on an even number. Absolutely no other OCD traits whatsoever!

@thelightishere

I have spent time in a psychiatric hospital, and the TV volume always had to be on a even number! Many patients would mention it. Although, multiples of 5 is ok.

Franklyfrost · 17/05/2021 19:05

I have nothing. Obviously I’m a total slob. The best I can come up with is that I wouldn’t like to wear a really thick long sock on one foot and a short one thin sock one on the other foot. Does that count?

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 17/05/2021 19:09

I really dislike being given water - or any cold drink really - in a mug, not a glass. To the extent that I’ll literally have just enough to slake my thirst if really needed, and leave the rest. I'm with you on that and wine/alcoholic beverages in disposable cups. No way!

CatBumJuice · 17/05/2021 19:10

I'm finding this thread very reassuring. Thought of some more. Nobody is allowed to touch my feet. I always have a drink with my meal, but I'm not allowed to actually drink it until I've finished eating. And when laying the table I must at all costs avoid the mongy spoon.

BigDaddio · 17/05/2021 19:12

@NeverDropYourMoonCup

Cold drinks in glasses or glass bottles, not mugs, not cans and NEVER plastic/melamine.

Hot drinks in cups, mugs, glass cups with handles or, at a pinch, a double paper cup - NEVER Styrofoam.

You lay on top of the duvet for a nap, not under the covers and the curtains must be open.

Shoes off as soon as I get in. Shoes are horrible articles of torture. Feet are for indoors.

Actual routine for coming home; door, mask and keys on the hook, Shoes off, jacket off and hung up, then back door open and blinds opened if still daylight.

The day starts with black coffee and continues until midday. Tea is for the afternoon.

I'm with you on the coffee/tea thing @NeverDropYourMoonCup although usually only my first cup is black, subsequent cups are with milk....full fat if we have it but tea is with semi......13 years of marriage and my wife has got the hang of this....whereas I am fine doing her strange tea routine.....(milk first ugh)
Lincslady53 · 17/05/2021 19:13

@kiksta

That probably goes back to pre tea bag days. It didn't matter how good your strainer was, you always had some leaves in the bottom of the cup. Perhaps your relations always left a little tea in the cup and you picked up the habit. We do the same.
BetterThanKleenex · 17/05/2021 19:16

I wash my hands after brushing my teeth because I don't feel clean after holding the toothbrush, even though it is clean.

Matching bra and knickers- bra first of course.

I always have a drink of milk when I eat chocolate- not a whole glass, sometimes just a sip. My tongue feels prickly if I don't.

Loo seat and lid down after use/cleaning, bathroom door closed after use.

Nonimai · 17/05/2021 19:16

I can’t leave 1 vegetable on a plate. Particularly 1 pea. It makes me very anxious.

maskface212 · 17/05/2021 19:17

These are sensory things, don't know if they count.

I can't stand a t shirt with pictures on it that feels plastic on my skin when it's being worn. Like a rubbery photo on a T shirt or letters. Not sure if that makes sense but I can only wear plain T shirts

Can't stand round neck tops (crew) as I don't like the feeling on my throat.

I often sit with the shirt neckline on my nose, no idea why and I can barely breathe when I do it.

I always have the windows open, even if I'm cold because of it, they are still open until it becomes unbearable.

Biffbaff · 17/05/2021 19:18

Haha you are all so delightfully weird!

I particularly like all the doors/food items/pants with personalities and sensibilities that we must look out for.

I realised I have a getting dressed order too - knickers first, then bra, middle items ok to mix about but always socks last. However I don't care so much about an undressing order.

And to the fellow bed people - you are all right about this and there are too many disrespectful husbands who just don't get it (including my own!)

OP posts:
NoProblem123 · 17/05/2021 19:18

I can’t drink water from upstairs taps, and water from the kitchen needs to be chilled in the fridge then brought back to almost room temp for me to drink it.

Also, I like my house to have that ‘aired’ feeling but I also hate the cold so have the windows open and the heating on.
My mum goes mad Blush

Jaxhog · 17/05/2021 19:20

Phew. Now I feel normal!

NoProblem123 · 17/05/2021 19:21

Also I don’t like wearing clothes that have been outside inside !
I get changed as soon as I get home, even if I know I’ll have to get changed again to go out again Confused

Congressdingo · 17/05/2021 19:22

@SimonedeBeauvoirscat

Those of you who put your clothes on in a certain order: do you have to take them OFF in the same order ???
Errr yes, although I'd not thought about it til now. On the other hand my day cannot be ruined by taking off my shoes at the end of the day.
Letsgetreadytocrumble · 17/05/2021 19:22

This one is a bit wasteful I know, but when I use a pack of mushrooms, I always have to leave one and throw it away. I don't do it with any other food, just mushrooms.

ilovepixie · 17/05/2021 19:22
@ilovepixie don't worry there are few of us normal non-weirdos out there lol
Oh no I'm not complaining! I like weird! Bonkers is good!

ivykaty44 · 17/05/2021 19:24

plastic shopping bags or lunch bags inside the fridge

TSSDNCOP · 17/05/2021 19:24

No Indian food on a Sunday

Wine must be finished or the bottle not opened

Wheelies in before dark on collection day. There is a house up the road from me that a)put the wrong bin out b) put garden refuse in it and c) after the Binnies refused to take it has left it and sateliite black bags all over the pavement

This should be punishable by fire IMHO

Letsgetreadytocrumble · 17/05/2021 19:24

Also the usual checking I have locked the door/turned off my hair straighteners several times before leaving the house. Sometimes I will get in and out of the car 3 or 4 times to check I have locked the door. I find that saying out loud 'the door is locked' helps, because then I remember saying that and then that helps me to know I have definitely done it!

queenmeadhbh · 17/05/2021 19:26

@LittleBunnyTail

Tomhardy look up dented cans and botulism!
Yes!! I was just about to say that my weird rule is I cannot eat anything from a can that is even slightly dented or I will die of botulism. When tescos deliver me dented or in any way dodgy cans I throw them out but don’t even phone for a refund because I’m too embarrassed to admit I’m paranoid.
DipSwimSwoosh · 17/05/2021 19:26

I always walk on tiptoe in other people's houses in case they haven't cleaned the floor properly.
I don't sit down on any toilet other my own.

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 17/05/2021 19:26

There are particular spoons I won't use, and I always like matching size cutlery. I won't have a small fork with a big knife, for example.
