What are your weird personal rules?

I have a personal rule, and I don't know where it came from, but it's: No outside things can touch the inside of the bed.

For example, if I want to put a bag on the bed, I would put it on top of the duvet. Absolutely no way in hell could I put it on the bottom sheet, or if the duvet was rucked up or folded over on the inside of the duvet. It makes me on edge just thinking about it.

Please share your weird personal rules (lighthearted + no judgement here)!

Drinking hot drinks outside.
Also the same about drinking cold drinks out of a mug.
I don’t particularly like eating outside either

again2020 · 17/05/2021 15:56

No sauces touching on a plate. Mayonnaise/ketchup/mushy peas/gravy type stuff. Makes me feel ill.
If I loose something I have to order a new one before I can relax (getting better about this as partner doesn't like it but it's like an itch I have to scratch).
Must check door is locked 3 times before going to bed, car must be checked 7 times Blush

@Cocomarine

I really dislike being given water - or any cold drink really - in a mug, not a glass. To the extent that I’ll literally have just enough to slake my thirst if really needed, and leave the rest.

I don’t know why it feels and tastes so wrong. I wondered if it were about being able to see the liquid, but hot chocolate in a mug is fine, and though I’m not a fan of opaque glasses, I have no problem with drink cans.

So it’s basically just as you say - weird personal rule!

It's weird isn't it, if I had to take some tablets and there was a mug on the side, I'd never use that for water, I'd have to get a class out of the cupboard. If I was served a cold drink in a mug at someone's house I'd be thinking WTF
StrawberrySquash · 17/05/2021 16:01

I think the mug thing is quite common. My theory is hot drinks are fine because they are soft and round like the mug is thick and curved. Cold drinks are hard and sharp and that matches better with the character of glass.

OlivesTree · 17/05/2021 16:02

@Pyewackect

No new shoes on the table.
I was going to say this!

This was a rule of my Nan’s who was very superstitious. It feels disrespectful not to uphold it now that she is no longer with us. 😄
DH thinks I’m nuts.

OlivesTree · 17/05/2021 16:03

On the mug theme, I don’t like drinking hot drinks from glass. Surely it burns your lips!

AdaThorne · 17/05/2021 16:04

@LadyCatStark

The volume of air conditioning must be on an even number.
Also the TV volume.
FedNlanders · 17/05/2021 16:04

I'm not fussed by many things here really, I'm sure I have lots but I cant think.

Couchbettato · 17/05/2021 16:05

What monsters serve water in a mug? Ew.

FedNlanders · 17/05/2021 16:05

We only have mugs to drink from 😆

FuckyouCovid21 · 17/05/2021 16:05

My weird personal rule: black pen only for writing, EVER.

Blue for me and at home I only have the Bic Crystal pens, all others feel weird.

I have a car with a panoramic glass roof which comes with a sun shade, I HAVE to have the sun shade open otherwise it feels claustrophobic. I've only had this car for a couple of months, never had a glass roof before, never felt claustrophobic

Mellonsprite · 17/05/2021 16:07

The washing must be hung out with matching pegs, and pegs the same colour of the item, or a colour that contrast nicely.
So odd pegs on 1 item or a pink T-shirt with red pegs would be a complete no-no.

Redcrayons · 17/05/2021 16:08

No ketchup if there’s already tomato based item on the plate ie beans.

moynomore · 17/05/2021 16:09

Do people actually put shoes on tables? Like, tables that are eaten at?

Douchebaggette · 17/05/2021 16:09

If it doesn't survive the dishwasher it's doesn't belong in the house Grin

Also, no one touches my feet! Ever.

kiksta · 17/05/2021 16:09

TV / radio volume must be on an even number or ending in 5 🤷🏽‍♀️

Lottieskeeper · 17/05/2021 16:09

I can't drink tea from a cup or mug that's not white inside. Coffee is fine in a coloured mug but tea is undrinkable.

My dad also has the same rule and everyone else in the family are heathens and don't care.

kiksta · 17/05/2021 16:11

I also don't finish a cup of tea. No idea why. Any other drink will be finished but a cuppa, I have to leave a drop in the bottom

YellowMonday · 17/05/2021 16:13

I used to have to check electrical points three times before bed or leaving the house.

Thank goodness for smart homes; I can now cross check the app on my phone!

TaraR2020 · 17/05/2021 16:13

Bags never go on the bed, ever. Or on a table.

Once washing is taken out the washing machine, it must have no contact with the floor (or another surface which I'm not certain isn't scrupulously clean). If it does, then it needs to be re-washed Blush

Unused plug sockets may never be left switched on.

Pet things must always be washed separately, with their own sponges/cloths. They never go in the dishwasher with human stuff.

When cleaning bathrooms, whatever cloth/sponge/brush is used to clean the floor or loo may not be used for anything else (I used to think that was normal, but apparently not).

HorseGallopingOnATomato · 17/05/2021 16:14

I can’t have words that rhyme in a sentence. Nothing annoys me more. Also, if I’m writing and the same word is repeated directly on the line above as below (happens fairly often with common words like ‘the’) I either cross it out and rewrite it slightly further away or I change the wording of my sentence. I can’t just leave it there!

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 17/05/2021 16:14

Cold drinks in glasses or glass bottles, not mugs, not cans and NEVER plastic/melamine.

Hot drinks in cups, mugs, glass cups with handles or, at a pinch, a double paper cup - NEVER Styrofoam.

You lay on top of the duvet for a nap, not under the covers and the curtains must be open.

Shoes off as soon as I get in. Shoes are horrible articles of torture. Feet are for indoors.

Actual routine for coming home; door, mask and keys on the hook, Shoes off, jacket off and hung up, then back door open and blinds opened if still daylight.

The day starts with black coffee and continues until midday. Tea is for the afternoon.

Janedownourlane · 17/05/2021 16:14

Always leave a couple of beans in the tin after emptying into the pan to let them feel like they've escaped being eaten. Also no tins upside down in the cupboard in case the contents get a headache.

looptheloopinahulahoop · 17/05/2021 16:14

@HollowTalk

I'm the same about drinking something cold from a mug - it's just wrong!
It's the feel of it against your mouth. I like china for tea, but not for coffee. My mum only has china mugs and they just don't work with coffee! Ditto ceramic mugs for tea. I've also been to a B&B which is lovely in every other way but gave us coffee in china cups. Yuck.

And yes I much prefer water (or cold drinks) out of a glass.

Kyph · 17/05/2021 16:15

When I'm out in a public place I never put my handbag down on a floor.
So in a cafe or bar it has to hang on the chair, when I go to the toilets if there is no hook on the door it has to hang around my neck rather than be put on the floor.
