AIBU?

Outrage!! Banned by deliveroo

... for making too many complaints apparently. This amounts to 2 missing items in grocery deliveries this week and a freezing cold lunch. I’ve been a customer for years! I spend a fortune! And now I am being cancelled by an algorithm with no option to complain - I think it’s v unfair. AIBU or should I just learn to cook.

OP posts:

Am I being unreasonable?

AIBU

Anyone interested in how gig economy workers are treated should watched “Sorry I Missed You” it’s a Ken Loach film

woodfort · 15/05/2021 17:50

Embrace a whole new world of culinary possibilities! Start off with simple dishes though-chilli, bolognese, stirfries etc.

I know this is really, really bad and completely indicative of a generation who are addicted to the flavourings they add in takeaways and whatnot ... but I am so bored reading that list.

Jellybabiesforbreakfast · 15/05/2021 17:55

Anyone ordering a takeaway is not interested in lentil stew, a large salad or leftover chilli.

I have two out of three of these in my fridge and still I'm eying up the local pizza and Thai menus...

Some of us are beyond salvation.

I disagree about it being indicative of generation addicted to takeaways.
I have takeaway max once a month, and even I found that list boring....

Re: Ocado, I have to say I have always been impressed. I don't have to do it every week, but occasionally there's something damaged or short date and I just request a refund though the app and it gets refunded. This week I got a refund for two books of stamps that weren't in the order. No proof obviously (you can't really prove something's absence!) but I have been refunded no questions.

I would be absolutely livid if I was told I was going to be banned for asking for legitimate refunds.

My go to in this situation is to post on social media, tagging them in. Shame them! And as for how they treat their staff, absolutely appalling.

MattDamon · 15/05/2021 18:05

Wow, surprised they were so quick to ban. I have to request a refund due to incorrect or missing items every third order from Just Eats and they've never said boo.

littlepattilou · 15/05/2021 18:05

@partyatthepalace Wow that's nasty of them. Hmm

Bit like someone complaining about their job as they are being treated unfairly, and the boss sacks them/doesn't renew their contract, or a tenant complaining about the poor repair service, and the landlord evicting them.

How DARE they ban you because you are unhappy with their (obviously shit) service? Hmm They should be apologising to you and improving their service.

Wankers. Hmm

I hope people start to leave them in droves...

Diwoo · 15/05/2021 18:31

Wow, what a dreadful business model, that's really shocking! I'm glad I don't use them. I've only used Just Eat occasionally and that was only because I could put in a pre-opening order before I went out, to pick up on my way home.
I can't say that I particularly enjoy cooking, much less the washing up etc but I really enjoy eating and have a list as long as my arm of different, and I think interesting, dishes as I don't like eating the same thing over and over. I wouldn't call chilli, bolognese and stir fries "a list" (and they're not even on mine) Grin

MilkchopsMcgee · 15/05/2021 18:45

I have boycotted deliveroo. I last ordered nandos who accidentally made my burger with the wrong spice level and was far too spicy for me to eat, they were happy to replace it but said I needed to go through deliveroo as they had no way of ordering a driver. Deliveroo refused and said I could have credit and reorder.. Except I'd have to spend an extra £15 on top to cover the minimum order amount and the extortionate delivery fee. So asked for a refund to my card, said they'd already issued the credit. I argued with them for a further 10 minutes and eventually got my refund, I never gave them permission to credit my account and after that disgraceful show of 'customer service' I don't want to use them again so the credit is useless to me. They also tried to end the webchat and cut me off because I took 2 minutes to think and type my response.

GCAcademic · 15/05/2021 18:46

@cupsofcoffee

I always worry about Ocado banning me, as I end up having to request a refund for something virtually every week thanks to their shitty packing, which breaks eggs, squashes loaves of bread and squishes stuff in cartons until they burst.

I have to ask, why do you keep using them if they're that bad?

Because it's a choice between that or a supermarket delivery which turns up with loads of missing items or stupid subs.

I second this recommendation. Good film.

"Because it's a choice between that or a supermarket delivery which turns up with loads of missing items or stupid subs."
Who do you use? I get that it will vary according to your delivery branch/stock levels/picker etc but I've been using Tesco for, say at least 10 years and I've rarely had issues. You can write notes on your items and state what sort of subs you'd like. I've occasionally refused stuff but often the driver puts in a refund and tells me to keep the item!

Boring maybe, but simple, and if recipes are doubled up, will keep well in a freezer too(apart from the stir fry, obviously). These would be my “fast food” options, and not what I’d eat when I have time to cook. Furthermore, when you don’t use bottled sauces or ones made from a packet, you can pack plenty of vegetables into them too, so that’s another plus. However, if they were all I ate, I would find them boring too.
GCAcademic · 15/05/2021 19:00

Diwoo - Sainsbury's and Waitrose. Both seem to have constant stock issues. I gave up after Waitrose delivered my weekly shop one week with so many missing items that there was not one of the seven meals I'd planned that I could cook that night. We live 10 miles from a supermarket and 3 miles from a local shop so that kind of service doesn't work for us.

me4real · 15/05/2021 19:32

YANBU, especially as the places doing things wrong were genuinely wrong, and not your fault.

@partyatthepalace Is it 'just' a temporary suspension?

You could join with a different email addy I suppose.

4amWitchingHour · 15/05/2021 19:37

@TheresNothingIWantMore

Read the OP. Two of the complaints are about grocery deliveries. You know - ingredients. For cooking.

Read the OP. It ends "AIBU or should I just learn to cook"

Bugger. That's embarrassing.
newnortherner111 · 15/05/2021 19:42

@Milesbennettdyson I agree also about the Ken Loach film.

As for the OPs ban, if it is consistently applied and not just because you live in an area that is expensive or somehow difficult to serve, or because a woman complained (or because of race or disability), then the basic option of a company to refuse service should be upheld.

3ismylot · 15/05/2021 19:43

I always find it bizarre when I read on threads like this about how bad the gig economy is!
My DH does plenty of gig economy as a 2nd income and works across multiple platforms to maximise his earnings and it is nothing like I see reported in the papers and the media!
He does it properly and does not double app like a lot of the cheating drivers (picking up from the same restaurant for 2 different customers on 2 different apps usually with a wait between orders meaning first order goes cold!), he pays for proper business insurance plus additional courier insurance, pays proper tax etc and still makes decent money.
Like I said he does it as a second income on top of a full time job, so he could easily earn a lot more if he did it full time. I see it reported that they don't earn anywhere near minimum wage etc, yet DH has been known to earn in excess of £40/hour across certain platforms during peak times.
I am on a few facebook groups for the drivers as I am signed up too but I don't like doing it much, the ones you see moaning and getting fired are the ones not doing it properly or clearly breaking rules.
The drivers do not get holiday pay, sick pay etc but how many self employed people do? Yes, the income is not guaranteed but that is made very clear when you sign up, the gig economy is what is says, its a gig!

Crunchymum · 15/05/2021 19:47

We've stopped using Deliveroo and UE.

All the restaurants we use stick their own menus in and offer discount and their menu prices are cheaper than Deliveroo / UE.

GabsAlot · 15/05/2021 19:47

tweet them op they usually reinstate

me4real · 15/05/2021 19:53

@4amWitchingHour I get 'groceries' from Morrisons or Co-op on Deliveroo. I don't usually get cooking ingredients, it's wine and chocolate etc.

cupsofcoffee · 15/05/2021 19:54

Because it's a choice between that or a supermarket delivery which turns up with loads of missing items or stupid subs.

It must be an area thing. We've used Morrisons throughout the pandemic and they've been nothing short of excellent.

Nogoodusername · 15/05/2021 20:04

I also had this with Uber Eats. The local McDonalds were always sending the order with missing items - hardly my fault!

AlfonsoTheTerrible · 15/05/2021 21:08

@SuperMonkeys

People are only saying learn to cook as the OP asked whether she should.

Yes. But why bother to read the thread when you can have a go at someone who has?
AlfonsoTheTerrible · 15/05/2021 21:13

I should clarify that the "you" in my post was generic and not directed at @Supermonkeys. My apologies if it came across that way.
