AIBU?

Outrage!! Banned by deliveroo

... for making too many complaints apparently. This amounts to 2 missing items in grocery deliveries this week and a freezing cold lunch. I’ve been a customer for years! I spend a fortune! And now I am being cancelled by an algorithm with no option to complain - I think it’s v unfair. AIBU or should I just learn to cook.

OP posts:

Am I being unreasonable?

AIBU

I will continue to use it as I don’t go to the shops anymore, it’s been very handy for me during the pandemic

GCAcademic · 15/05/2021 16:29

I don't use Deliveroo anymore after a driver burst into tears and begged us not to complain when the bottom of the food bag broke, dropping the food on the floor. He offered to give us the money instead (I didn't take it, or make a complaint.) I realised how unfairly the workers must be treated.

OMG. Poor bloke.

I always worry about Ocado banning me, as I end up having to request a refund for something virtually every week thanks to their shitty packing, which breaks eggs, squashes loaves of bread and squishes stuff in cartons until they burst.

SuperMonkeys · 15/05/2021 16:31

People are only saying learn to cook as the OP asked whether she should.

SuziQuatrosFatNan · 15/05/2021 16:33

@Nearlyneverready that's appalling, poor guy. Imagine being under such a level of stress as that.

pondfrog · 15/05/2021 16:34

AIBU or should I just learn to cook

This is my favourite AIBU question ever Grin

SuziQuatrosFatNan · 15/05/2021 16:38

It's a fair question really but asking it on Mumsnet means there's a danger the thread will be full of chicken recipes and tips for "bulking things out with lentils". Plus ofc a very small serving of salad after which ones tall thin ravenous teens are entirely full.

It's actually a HUGE salad, not small serving of it. Everything is bulked by HUGE salads😁

Yeah, fuck all those service workers, they exist to do others' dirty work for them.
TheresNothingIWantMore · 15/05/2021 16:40

Read the OP. Two of the complaints are about grocery deliveries. You know - ingredients. For cooking.

Read the OP. It ends "AIBU or should I just learn to cook"

Happycat1212 · 15/05/2021 16:40

Well I don’t go in the shops anymore so should I just starve then 😂

SuziQuatrosFatNan · 15/05/2021 16:42

"I didn't really like the Stalinist purges but it worked out pretty convenient for me."

LadyWhistledownsQuill · 15/05/2021 16:45

Order direct from the restaurant, if they offer that service. No % to deliveroo (it's high - 25-33% ish) so more money going to the (indie?) restaurant, and the restaurants themselves often offer a discount (10% ish) when you order direct.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 15/05/2021 16:46

Not wanting to derail the thread, but we experienced the same thing when we had to be recovered with our caravan by a certain company that we've been members of for over 20 years (one which would appear near the top of most alphabetical lists).

In attaching the caravan to the back of the tow truck, the jockey wheel inadvertently got dropped on to the ground and broke. It was a bit inconvenient, but it was old and not in the finest condition anyway. The (very friendly and helpful) breakdown driver begged us not to report it to the company and ask them to pay for a replacement, as he said they'd financially penalise him and 'demote' him when it came to assigning jobs and cost him a lot of lost income. He had his phone out there and then on eBay, looking for a new jockey wheel - insisting on paying for it himself and getting it delivered to our address, but pleading with us not to let the company know about it.

We promised we wouldn't mention it at all to the company, but told him to put his phone away - and bought one ourselves soon after (they aren't that expensive).

It does make you wonder just how many huge companies will apparently absorb the costs for the occasional accident or other issue, only to end up punishing and sanctioning their employees/contractors for it. Nobody should ever have to be in constant fear of their employers when just responsibly doing their job to the best of their ability.

Everythingfromhome · 15/05/2021 16:51

I think it's the companies way to deal with the huge 'economy ' of scamming to get free stuff.

It's the way this country has become, we are now a nation of selfish bastards who embrace lying and liats, so think nothing of lying to get food we don't deserve.

Companies are rightly sick of this, so have gone to the extraordinary measure of two strikes and your banned. They have looked at the balance sheet and decided this is the way forward; business lost through unfair bans is nothing compared to money saved by beating the scammers.

I voted YABU, because if you use this awful gig economy business, then you have to accept the downsides.

Arbadacarba · 15/05/2021 16:53

Why do people on MN automatically assume anyone who has ever had a takeaway in their life can't cook? OP could be Gordon fucking Ramsay for all you know. Maybe some people just like the occasional McDonalds

The OP asked AIBU or should I just learn to cook so it's fair to assume she can't cook.

GypsyWanderer · 15/05/2021 17:02

Do some people really believe if you order a takeaway you don’t know how to cook? 😂

Giantrooster · 15/05/2021 17:04

OP could be Gordon fucking Ramsay for all you know

If that's the case, I really can't blame op for ordering take-aways.

GypsyWanderer · 15/05/2021 17:05

My fault I didn’t read the OP properly Hmm
Hallyup6 · 15/05/2021 17:12

We got threatened by Asda staff for asking for refunds on items from our click and collect orders. They were always valid refunds, packets open, sub par fruit and veg, out of date stuff etc. I didn't take kindly to being spoken to like that, so we now shop elsewhere. Their loss.

LadyWhistledownsQuill · 15/05/2021 17:12

@GypsyWanderer

Quite - I know a fair few chefs who just can't face cooking when they get home and eat a remarkable amount of McDonald's and similar crap!
GypsyWanderer · 15/05/2021 17:21

I cook. I love cooking! But sometimes just can’t face it and want to eat crap in front of the tv. Like tonightWink

DangerNature · 15/05/2021 17:22

Me too OP!! I was banned around two years ago and it still infuriates me! I was really mentally unwell and didn’t have the energy to go to the shops or even cook. Even putting in toast was exhausting for me. I must have spent a fortune on deliveroo in a tiny amount of time and complained twice and they banned me without the option to speak to anyone, I just kept getting the same automated response even though I had photographic evidence and one of the times I had been sent meat despite ordering the vegan option!

LittlestBoho · 15/05/2021 17:24

Whhhaaattttt? You can get banned? Shock Oh damn, I'm in deep shit then, I've complained about the past 3 Deliveroo orders I've had from Aldi (I keep ordering toilet paper and they keep sending me kitchen roll instead - it's not the same!)

The story about the crying driver is really upsetting. I use Deliveroo specifically so I can add an extra driver tip, you can't on JustEat and I don't always have cash. I want the drivers to have good working conditions and decent pay, what is the best way for consumers to help do that?

cupsofcoffee · 15/05/2021 17:36

I have to ask, why do you keep using them if they're that bad?

Tartyflette · 15/05/2021 17:41

We usually tip the rider/driver in cash, in person. That way we can be sure that they actually get it,
