That Freddie dying isn't a spoiler FFS

Got this 'friend' who is the first to jump in at every opportunity to say 'oh, you've done that wrong'.

One of her hallmarks is calling you out when you've supposedly let others down.

Her call out today on a WA group is when I've said after watching Bohemian Rhapsody how tragic for poor Freddie Mercury to die at such a young age from aids.

Her response? Spoiler alert! 'Ruined that for me now'. It's a public fact not a work of fiction. What next, letting her know the titanic sinks!

Any suggestions on a response that is better than F off?

Or AIBU

Tell her who shot JR.

Raindancer411 · 09/05/2021 22:42

Oh this made me laugh. When titanic was on the cinema and we group of us went. I said how sad it was that it sinks and she said exactly the same to me. I was so shocked she didn't know, it wasn't until later I was in hysterics. Just ignore and have a laugh to yourself.

Anniegetyourgun · 09/05/2021 22:44

My bro did that thing with Sixth Sense too. He told me to catch it when it was on TV and then promptly delivered the spoiler. Now I'll never know whether, or at what stage, I'd have worked it out. I am very fond of my bro but he can be such a crumb sometimes.

My DH was watching Unforgotten Series 1 recently, and I said 'oh is this the series where it turns out that ?'. He was sooo pissed off that I'd spoiled it for him. But the only reason I knew was because we had watched it together. I really didn't consider I could spoil something he'd already watched in the last couple of years Hmm

I remember sitting in a friends bedroom at uni in 1997, watching Thelma and Louise. One of the group hadn't watched it even though it had come out about 6 years before, another friend walked in about halfway through and said 'what are you watching? Oh is this the one where they drive off the cliff at the end?'

It was annoying but you can't be too upset if you are coming at it late and people assume you have already seen it!

We went to a kids Christmas show. At the start one of the actors (who was playing a child) was improvising playing with his toys (nothing to do with the actual show - just mucking about as the kids took their seats). He’s got his Star Wars figures and throws in that line.

My husband felt compelled to tweet the company and suggest the biggest movie spoiler of all time wasn’t great to throw in a show for under 10s. They replied that he had a point and they’d not do it again. Grin

BlueDaysTillChristmas · 09/05/2021 23:10

Ohhhhhh I read the title and thought you were talking about The Archers 🤦‍♀️

SleepingStandingUp · 09/05/2021 23:25

I need to listen to the Archers to see why everyone wants Freddie dead

No we don't!Shock
imsanehonest · 09/05/2021 23:38

Does she know 50 Shades of Grey isn't a Dulux colour chart?

SleepingStandingUp · 09/05/2021 23:58

Oops

TroysMammy · 10/05/2021 00:30

In my previous job I worked in a remote office on an enterprise park. There was nowhere to go lunchtime so we used to bring videos on and watch films over 2 days. We were watching The Lion King when a Manager popped his head around the door and said "has his father died yet" ? No he fucking hadn't and a male colleague was devastated.

CorianderBee · 10/05/2021 01:00

People comparing this to Star Wars etc are being a bit silly. That's fiction, Freddie was real and very famously died from AIDS. He died before I was born and even I knew that - it's very common knowledge and not a spoiler.

Noooo - we love Fweddie.
Justmeandtwokids · 10/05/2021 07:02

I'll have to remember to tell my dad he ruined last night's Call the Midwife for me sometime in my childhood, by telling me who won the World Cup in 1966. Mind you, he gave me and a group of friends a lift to the cinema to see Titanic - as he dropped us off he said "don't cry, the boat sinks".....

Springersrock · 10/05/2021 07:16

This made me laugh.

I had similar words with a friend a few years ago over Bohemian Rhapsody. I’d been to see it with a different friend and she said the film time line of Freddie’s AIDS diagnosis wasn’t quite right

Other friend went went nuts as she hadn’t seen it and we’d spoiled it for her.

We were all a bit Confused

She thought the film was fictional - despite us all seeing Queen with Adam Lambert at a music festival a few years before

I was once called all the names under the sun on here because during the cinematic release of Deathly Hallows pt2 I said something about Harry beating Voldemort.

Jesus, anyone with a brain would know from book one that Harry was going to defeat voldemort. Otherwise it would be the worst ending to a book series ever. Plus if they were fans, they would have read the books, the films suck.

Did he also let Toy Story know? I'm pretty certain most kids would watch that before Star Wars.

As stated, generally people don't. Now, if you'd posted something about Pip dying, you'd probably be lynched for cruelly raising people's hopes.

harriethoyle · 10/05/2021 08:43

I would not be sad if Freddie died, but he wouldn't be top of my rejoicing list.

YES @Zzelda she's so fricking sanctimonious! I thought Rex's wedding barn review was hilarious...

KihoBebiluPute · 10/05/2021 08:52

Suggested reply:

"Interesting. Would you also consider it a 'spoiler' if I commented about films about the lives of other great musicians like Beethoven or Mozart and revealed that the films included the story of how they died? If not, how long ago does a real person have to have lived before you no longer consider it a 'spoiler' to reveal the shock news that they weren't immortal?"

LookItsMeAgain · 10/05/2021 09:05

You could say that the kid from Jurassic Park (the first one) was in Bohemian Rhapsody and ask her to see if she can spot him in the cast?
She'll probably spend the whole film watching out for a kid to appear on the screen and in fact it is the same guy playing the John Deacon role!
