Unexpectedly amazing food

I recently bought some Chicago Town Loaded Tomato pizzas as they were on offer in the local shop, I'm not normally that keen on frozen pizza so I cooked it for the kids and just saved myself a sliver.... Omg it was amazing. I had to go out and buy 3 more. When I was buying it the checkout lady said. "have you tried these, it's the best pizza ever?".

I gave my neighbours a slice each and unprompted they said it was the best pizza they have ever had!!

What unexpectedly amazing food have you tried recently... I need new good food in my life!!

Chicago town are rank and taste so cheap Confused

Invisablewoman · 09/05/2021 18:26

Beyond Meat burgers. I was a sceptical carnivore but they're really good!

MyGrassIsBrowner · 09/05/2021 18:30

Itsu vegetable fushion frozen gyoza, pan fried... they are fudging AMAZING.

DroopyDaff · 09/05/2021 18:30

Also recommend Tesco Plant Chef Meat Free Burgers in the chilled section. Really tasty and filling. More of a meaty texture than other burgers I’ve tried and no soya or wheat.

@BestestBrownies

Being coeliac, I get ridiculously excited when I find a really decent gluten-free alternative.

A recent discovery has been Warburton’s GF crumpets. They shit all over other GF crumpets (which are barely edible). Not great for the waistline though!

I feel your pain! The best gf bread is Schar white sliced.... and, no. I don't work for them!
BoyTree · 09/05/2021 18:41

Jus rol sourdough pizza dough is really good- we leave it out for longer than 15 minutes before shaping and it gets really easy to stretch.

EachandEveryone · 09/05/2021 18:45

The best frozen pizzas are Iceland Italian stonebaked. Also their posh ready meals are very good.

LokiDoki75 · 09/05/2021 18:53

Iceland’s frozen pasta range and their frozen paella. My son, who has all sorts of sensory needs and allergies and is also currently the world’s biggest picky eater, can’t get enough of them. In fact, I’ve been happily surprised and pleased with all of their own range.

Ooh, and Waitrose do these sweet potato falafels that have raisins and carrot and cumin in - dunked in houmous, they are the food OF THE GODS
YES! The best find in the Waitrose shops at motorway service stations 😃

Lidl chocolate bars: orange and almond/salted caramel/raspberry

Lidl deluxe chocolate covered ginger biscuits dark/milk
Lidl fresh sourdough boule from the bakery

Lidl/Aldi chorizo. Sliced and gently fried as a base for chorizo and butter bean soup
Aldi Belgian chocolate cheesecake (freezer section)
Aldi florentines at Christmas

I suspect the Chicago Town doubters haven't tried it. Because its absolutely delightful.

GYNisaliarWTF · 09/05/2021 19:21

@SinkGirl

Come on now, there’s no way that a Chicago town pizza can be the best pizza ever! I can’t stand frozen pizzas.

Bags of mini saucisson from Waitrose. Used to buy similar bags from supermarket in France when I worked there, so very happy to find them here!

I just realised there are two types of people in the world when I read this. Because do I fuck as like know what saucisson is. But I love frozen pizza.

Bland, greasy and fake tasting. Never again.

MCcain straight cut quick chips - for the microwave - I have been sniffy about frozen chips my whole life but these are excellent - in a very good smallish portion for one - such a treat

HereIfYouNeedMe · 09/05/2021 19:42

Chicago town tiger crust or with the tomato crust, love them!!! Nothing like the small microwaveable ones. I no longer treat myself to a takeaway pizza, completely gone off dominoes etc because of how good they are!

Titsywoo · 09/05/2021 19:48

Well OP I have just bought one of the pizzas - shame you don't work for them really!

I love a good pizza (proper neapolitan base in a wood fired oven) and we make our own at home in our Ooni Koda oven. But I still love a pizza hut or Sainsburys basics tomato and cheese pizzas - the small ones are about 50p and you have to add extra cheese as they put bugger all on but they are so shit they are good!). I hate crispy base pizzas and the Chicago Town one looks softer than something like Dr Oetker so I am optimistic!

Was a Piccalilli virgin until last week bought a jar from asda.Fuck me I love it.ive been missing out on this for 41 years!

Wizzbangfizz · 09/05/2021 19:50

Crying with laughter at the neighbour/pizza thing Grin

mynameisbrian · 09/05/2021 19:54

best find ever is frozen onions, garlic and other herbs.

Other stuff that i like is frozen duck rolls, tempura prawns...with some chilli dip are a bargain

5foot418stone · 09/05/2021 20:01

This chocolate from Aldi

It's amazing. Tastes expensive. Grin Best of all there is no palm oil in it!

Sinthie · 09/05/2021 20:06

Celeriac soup. Healthy, but surprisingly good.

OldEvilOwl · 09/05/2021 20:07

*Richmond Vegan sausages. Taste exactly like the real thing! You can’t even tell the difference,

I bought some last week on the recommendation of MN. I was nearly sick they were that bad. Greasy, over salted and nauseatingly smooth texture*

Same - they were disgusting

georgarina · 09/05/2021 20:12

@BestestBrownies Warburtons gf crumpets are the best!

Can't say Chicago Town pizzas look appetizing to me (wouldn't be able to try them either way) but Biomel chocolate shots are amazing - taste just like a chocolate milkshake but they're low calorie and full of vitamins.
