Unexpectedly amazing food

I recently bought some Chicago Town Loaded Tomato pizzas as they were on offer in the local shop, I'm not normally that keen on frozen pizza so I cooked it for the kids and just saved myself a sliver.... Omg it was amazing. I had to go out and buy 3 more. When I was buying it the checkout lady said. "have you tried these, it's the best pizza ever?".

I gave my neighbours a slice each and unprompted they said it was the best pizza they have ever had!!

What unexpectedly amazing food have you tried recently... I need new good food in my life!!

Oh dear I hate to be the bearer of bad news but Chicago Town Pizzas aren’t going to be selling to supermarkets in the near future 🙈.

Serpenta · 08/05/2021 22:31

plot twist!

Sure Jan...

Aldi do a pad Thai kit for 2, just add prawns etc, I was sceptical but it was the nicest quick supper last week, add a good squeeze of lime, will buy again

SteppinOutwithMyBaby · 08/05/2021 22:57

Gia Anchovy Paste in a tube. Taste just like bottled anchovies, it's so much easier to use, absolutely delicious. I've been tempted to put the tube to my lips and just suck.

3Britnee · 08/05/2021 22:58

Why don't you try it for yourself? Plenty of people on the thread have said they are nice.

bethmc93 · 08/05/2021 23:00

The Aldi buttermilk fish burgers, they are so so nice

cricketmum84 · 08/05/2021 23:02

I had an Iceland microwave chicken makhani tonight. Not usually a fan of microwave meals but omg it was absolutely delicious.

It majorly spiked my blood sugars though so won't be indulging again... bloody diabetes!!

What?! Even the tiny ones you get in a 2 pack? Where are they going to be selling to if not supermarkets?!
Definately · 08/05/2021 23:15

@Northernsoullover

I'm not vegetarian but am trying to limit meat to the nth degree. I have just had a Ljnda McCartney mozzarella burger and I will never eat a meat burger again.
Yeah I love them, also not veggie, not even trying to limit meat I just like quite a lot of vegetarian food.
BrightYellowDaffodil · 08/05/2021 23:17

Gia Anchovy Paste in a tube.

I bought the Lusso Vita one from Waitrose yesterday and I keep squeezing a bit out of the tube to eat. Bloody love anchovies.

It’s not unexpected that it’s good, but Lotus biscuit spread. It’s SO good I hardly know where to start. I certainly can’t have it in the house, else I just eat it from the jar with a spoon.

GreenTeaPingPong · 08/05/2021 23:17

I usually prefer quality dark chocolate, but surprisingly good and addictive I've found is Cadbury's darkmilk chocolate, especially the giant buttons (which I absolutely don't keep in my desk drawer at work, oh no). Infinitely nicer than standard Cadbury's milk chocolate.

rabbitcow · 08/05/2021 23:26

Domono's thin and crispy pizza. I am a pizza snob and I don't like their other pizza bases at all, but these are delicious.

Dr. Oetker Ristorante Mozzarella Pizza is quite edible, especially if you add some of your own toppings.

I want some pizza now!

Ecruelworld · 08/05/2021 23:30

Definately. I might have the wrong pizza company. My neighbour works for a pizza delivery firm that started selling to supermarkets but demand wasn’t high enough so they’re stopping. I was sure it was called Chicago Town. But maybe there’s another company with Chicago in their name. I’ll check.

We normally buy pizzas with the works, never just a margarita. One day my ed and her gf bought some frozen pizzas and one was the stuffed crust Chicago town pizza and OMG! It was a taste sensation. Not bought it again yet, but I dream of it, and I am not a pizza fan.
rabbitcow · 08/05/2021 23:32

I am going to try anchovy paste, it sounds very Malory Towers!

osbertthesyrianhamster · 08/05/2021 23:33

Morrison's spag bol ready meal is delicious.

Barnbop2 · 08/05/2021 23:42

I'm here to back you, OP. We discovered this pizza too and it really is like a takeaway one. They're addictive!

Unexpectedly amazing food
AGreatEscspe · 08/05/2021 23:47

I don’t like any frozen pizzas and am not too keen on chilled ones either, but I do make an exception for the little microwave Chicago town ones. The base is totally tasteless, but microwaving makes it soft - I find frozen pizzas in the oven to be extremely cardboard. Haven’t had one in years, though, as no longer have a microwave.

Other things that are much better than they have any right to be:

Barilla pesto genovese - find pesto in a jar is generally horrible, but this is nice and creamy.

The wicked kitchen beetroot pesto (also in a jar) is AMAZING.

Indian meals that come in a pouch. Ready to boil, yum. Daals, curries, etc. By rights should be awful, but actually delicious. They need to actually come from India to be any good; Indian sauces in jars and pouches made in the uk just aren’t the same.

A caramel filled polish chocolate bar that used to be three for £1 in Tesco. Haven’t seen these in ages. Very moreish.

Thelnebriati · 08/05/2021 23:51

I got some black kalamata olives in red wine vinegar from the World Foods aisle in Asda, they are so tasty I can't stop snacking on them.

gelatodipistacchio · 08/05/2021 23:56

I looked up Gentleman's Relish and was beyond excited to try it...until I realised it's made with wheat flour.

I see there is a big GF contingent on here! My contribution to this thread is M&S gf pain au raisin. No longer seems to be in store, but is on Ocado. I live in terror of its discontinuation.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 09/05/2021 00:00

@SmidgenofaPigeon

Aldi do a cheese bake in a little terracotta dish. There’s one with chorizo in too and it’s lovely.
I had one of these smash a while back and was so disappointed and if DH had let me I’d have risked a mouthful of teracotta.
BluePeterVag · 09/05/2021 00:08

Do cheesy Wotsits count? My mum told me I didn’t like them when I was a kid, but recently confessed that she used that tactic a lot to stop me asking for food I had seen on adverts. So I tried some after all the years and I was surprised at how nice they were. GrinBlush

Inaquandry19 · 09/05/2021 00:09

I came on to say the aldi cheese bakes but see there already been mentioned by numerous people. Coop own brand white and bran bread makes bloomin fantastic toast. Also Aldi salted caramel brownie but they seem to have stopped stocking them.
